Missing Mate

Conrad POV Sitting at my desk, I was reviewing the plans of Crescent Moon’s packhouse and the security surrounding their pack lands. As well as the two warriors following Beth, I had sent scouts to case Crescent Moon so that I had their patrol movements before I raided them to get Beth back. Looking at the time on the screen, concern niggles in my stomach. Beth should have arrived at Crescent Moon by now, but Rory and Brutus haven’t called me yet. Picking up my phone, I checked that I hadn’t accidentally put it on silent. Deciding to give them another fifteen minutes, I left my office and headed to the kitchen to get a coffee and to stretch my legs. Pouring myself a mug of black coffee, I leant back against the kitchen counter, closed my eyes, and breathed in its pleasant aroma. I hmmm in appreciation before taking my first sip. “Do you want something sweet and creamy to go with that?” I heard Bridget’s voice being whispered seductively into my ear. Jumping, my hot coffee spilt out of my mug and down the front of my shirt, burning into my chest. Slamming the mug down on the side, I rip the shirt from my body, unconcerned about the buttons that pop off. Her hand suddenly appears on my chest as she rubs a cloth over it. “Here, let me help.” She says as she presses her body against my arm, her other hand sliding down my bare back, the fingers pushing their way into my trousers. Stepping away from her and out of her grasp, I snatched the cloth out of her hand and finished drying my chest. “What the f**k, Bridget?” I yelled at her. She just pouts back at me, running her fingers along the worktop as she edges towards me once more, “I just miss you, baby.” She whines. Backing away from her, I headed towards the door. “I have told you before and I will tell you again. Leave. Me. Alone.” I told her. “But baby, we were so good together.” She says, batting her eyelids and slowly walking towards me, swaying her hips. “I could make you so, so happy.” “No!!!” I yelled into her face. “If you don’t stop, you leave and become a proper rogue. This is my final warning.” Spinning on my heel, I stormed out of the room and headed towards my quarters to change into clean clothes. Halfway there, my phone rings. Sliding it out of my back pocket, I see Brutus is calling me, so immediately answer it. “Well?” I ask. “Ummm…. Boss……” he stutters. “What?” I command. “We lost her.” He tells me. “You what?!” I yelled down the phone. “How could you lose her?” “Well, boss. They were heading towards Crescent Moon as expected, but then they turned off onto a random road.” He starts to explain. “There was another car there waiting for them and she was transferred into this new car. We followed it, so we stayed with her. But….” “But, what?” I demanded. “But, then the car…… it just disappeared.” He finished. “Disappeared? How can a car disappear?” I asked him. “We don’t know, sir. We can see the tyre marks on the road, but they just end.” He said, confusion etched in his voice. “Give me your location and I will come and look for myself.” I said, hanging up and changing the direction my feet were carrying me. My phone pings with a message from Brutus, showing me his location, as I head for the exit to my compound. I send a quick text message to a couple of warriors still in the compound to tell them to keep an eye on things whilst I am out, before grabbing a backpack with spare clothes hanging by the front door. Slipping my phone inside the bag, I sling it on my back, ensuring the straps are loose. Exiting the building, I jumped off the top step and shifted into my midnight-black wolf before I landed on the driveway. When my paws hit the ground, I immediately sprinted off towards the location Brutus sent me. It takes me just under an hour at a full out sprint to get there. I slow down when I see Brutus leaning against his car as he watches Rory studying the empty road. Coming up beside Brutus, I shift back into my human form and sling the bag off my back. “Have you found anything else?” I asked as I rummaged through the bag, taking out the clothing and putting it on. “Nothing at all, boss.” He tells me. Now dressed in loose jogging bottoms and a white t-shirt, I approached Rory. Taking note of the tyre prints on the road, I followed them to where Rory was crouching. “Anything?” I asked him. “No Boss. The tyre marks just end.” He says, standing up. “I have walked further up the road, but I can’t find any trace of the car.” “Hmmm.” I pondered as I started to pace around. I felt a tingling on my skin as I walked and looking down, I saw that I was about a foot from where the car vanished. Looking to either side of the road, I noticed something odd on the verge. Heading to the edge of the road, the tingling feeling stays with me all the while as I squat to look at the grass by the side of the road. A slight charring of the grass directly in line with the end of the tyre marks had me jumping up and rushing towards the car. “Rory, Brutus, in the car now. We have to go.” I told them, opening the driver’s side door and sliding into the seat. They both get into the car, silently. As soon as the doors are shut, I spin the car around and head home. “What’s wrong, boss?” Brutus asked from the passenger seat. “Magic.” I told them and heard them gasp. “The car went through a portal. Whoever Lucas was working with has taken Beth through a portal and I am going to find out who it is and why.” “Boss, why all this drama about some girl?” Rory asks from the back seat. “She’s not just some girl, she is my mate.” I raged. I can feel them both looking at each other in amazement, but luckily for them, they both remain silent. I drove like a madman, speeding down the roads and passing any other vehicles I encountered as we headed toward the Crescent Moon pack so that I could confront Alpha Lucas. When I finally saw the pack entrance, I could see the metal gates were closed. I was in no mood to ask permission to enter, so I put my foot down on the accelerator. The car slammed into the gates, bursting through them as they swung open due to the force of the impact. We hardly slow, as we speed down the road and enter the town. It’s a straight road to the packhouse, with traffic lights at each junction. But I don’t care, I just need answers. We tank down the roads, ignoring all the red lights. Cars and pedestrians are jumping out of our way as we speed past them. We approached the packhouse at breakneck speed. Slamming on the breaks, I turned the wheel and skidded to a stop right outside the front door, the back wheel knocking over a decorative plant pot. I am out of the car like a rocket, my feet storming up the steps to the packhouse door. Trying the handle, I found the door was unlocked, so, I strode straight into the entranceway. “Lucas!!” I bellowed, my voice echoing around the large room. “Lucas!” The sound of footsteps running down the stairs causes my eyes to dart to the staircase. Rushing down the stairs, is Lucas; his shirt open and billowing behind him as he quickly buckles his trousers. “What the f**k?” he asks as he gets to the bottom step, seeing me flanked by Brutus and Rory. “Where is she?” I raged, my hands fisted by my sides. “Where’s who?” he replies, confusion etching his face as he takes the last step off the staircase. “Where is Beth? Where is my mate?” I demanded. “Your mate?” he says, shaking his head and shrugging his shoulders. Striding forward, I stopped inches in front of him. “The girl you bought. Where. Is. She?” I growled out. His mouth widens as his neurons finally click into place. “You sold your mate?” he says, taking a step back in shock and tripping over the bottom step of the stairs, landing on his butt. I stared down at him, anger rising in my gut. “Tell me where she is.” I demanded, leaning over him. Before he can answer, my phone rings. “Grab him.” I tell Rory and Brutus, as I turn on my heel and answer my phone. “What?!” “Boss, we are under attack.” The panicked voice on the other end of the line states.
