Attack!

Connor POV We have been on the road for a few hours and my dad and Alpha Leon have filled me in on what Stuart and Darren have found out, but it’s not much. The rest of the time was spent in silence, I was trying to feel the mate bond between myself and Beth, but either the bond wasn’t strong enough or she wasn’t close enough for me to feel it. Eventually, we pull into a motel parking lot and climb out of our vehicles. Stuart opens one of the motel room doors and ushers me, my dad, and Alpha Leon inside, leaving the warriors milling around outside and stretching their legs. As we enter the room, I see Darren leaning over a large map spread out on the table. There are also numerous photographs spread across the two single beds. “You’ve been busy.” My Dad stated, looking over the various photos. “What have you found out?” Alpha Leon asks as he walks to stand next to Darren. “We’ve only found one entrance.” Darren states, pointing at the map. As I lean over the table from the opposite side, I see that it is a detailed map of the area around the building we think Beth is being held. Darren’s finger is pointing to the front of the single-storey building which abuts against a small hill. “We have scouted around the whole of the hill and found no signs of another exit.” Stuart continues. “We currently have one member of each pack located here.” He states, pointing to a position in front of the building. “They are watching for movements. The rest are scattered around the hill, keeping an eye out for any tunnels or caves we may have missed.” “We have been rotating duties every couple of hours, to ensure everyone stays alert. But there has only been the odd person coming and going through the front door since we have been here.” Darren finishes off their report. I strolled over to the beds and looked at the various photos scattered on the sheets. “So, it will have to be a frontal assault.” I heard my father say. “I agree.” Alpha Leon nods, “But we should have people stationed around the hill for any hidden exits.” “One member from each pack could be stationed at each of our viewing spots.” Darren suggests, “That way we can view the entire area and still have full contact with the warriors.” Remaining silent, I just stare at the pictures on the bed, memorising them whilst the two Alphas and their Betas make plans. “I want to knock at the front door.” The words left my mouth before I even realised it. “I’m not sure that’s wise, son.” My dad commented, coming over and placing his arm on my shoulders. Turning my head to look at him, I shrugged before I spoke, “I want to give them the chance to let her go without bloodshed. There may be innocents in there, innocents that could get hurt if we go in full force.” “That is very grown up of you, Connor.” Alpha Leon smiles at me, “I don’t know if I would be able to do that if it was Sarah in there. I’m not sure I can do it knowing Beth is in there. But you will not go alone.” “I concur.” My dad agreed. “Stuart, can you send some of the warriors that we brought with us to relieve those keeping watch. I want them to rest before we ‘knock’ at the door, especially David, as I want him with Connor.” “Baz will also go with Connor. That way we have members of both packs there.” Alpha Leon states. I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding and my shoulders sagged with relief. “How long?” I asked, now eager to start the ball rolling. “Two hours? That should allow everyone to be well rested and fed,” Stuart suggested, and both Alphas nodded in response before Stuart and Darren left to carry out their instructions. Take out was ordered and everyone crowded into the room to eat and to be briefed on the plan. Although I knew I should eat, my appetite had all but vanished and I only nibbled at my slice of pizza. The mood was sombre when everyone moved out a couple of hours later to get into position, leaving me, David, and Baz waiting for the allotted time to drive there and knock on the door. I paced the room, my nerves on edge. We were only a few miles away from where Beth was, but I still couldn’t feel her through our bond. I know she is alive because the bond is still there, but I am confused as to why I can’t feel her. “It’s time,” Baz tells us, opening the motel room door and heading towards the one car that was left behind for us. Following him and David out of the room, I slide into the back seat of the car, Baz riding shotgun as David drives. We’re on our way. I link to my father to let him know. See you soon is all the response I got back. The ten-minute car ride to the bungalow was done in silence. We all knew the plan and our parts to play in it. Arriving in the nearly empty carpark in front of our destination, we all climbed out of the car and made our way to the very plain front door of a one-storey building nestled into a hillock. I led the way with Baz and David, a step behind me. My palms were sweaty, and nerves were running riot through my body by the time I got to the door. Taking several deep breathes, I raised my fist. “Ready?” I asked. “Ready.” Both Baz and David replied as I knocked loudly on the door three times. Silence ensued. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest and the blood pumping in my ears. I was about to knock again, when I heard footsteps on the other side of the door. Lowering my hand, I waited, trying to remain calm. The door swung inwards, revealing a small man in his late thirties. By his scent, I could tell he was human. This was unexpected. We thought only werewolves and other supernaturals would be involved in this. “Can I help you?” the man asked, his eyes darting around behind us. “We are looking for someone, a friend of ours. Her name is Beth. Is she here?” I enquired politely. “Sorry, I don’t know no-one name Beth. It’s just me that lives here. Have done for the last year.” The man told us. His hands twitching at his sides and the veins pulsing in his temples, told me he was lying. “Look, we know she is here. We want to speak to your boss, or whoever is in charge,” Baz says from my left. “I don’t know what you mean.” The man said as he tried to close the door, but I moved my foot in the way and stopped the door with my hand. “We want to do this peacefully, so tell me where she is.” I demanded, bringing my face closer to his. Holding up my fist above my head, I growled “Perhaps this will help your memory.” I saw the man’s eyes widen in surprise as he nervously stepped backwards, letting go of the door. I knew that he had seen some of our men appear at the edge of the carpark, after I had given them the signal, so I could understand his nervousness. “There are more,” David states. “W…wait here.” The man stammers before he turns and runs through the building. Opening the door wide, I leisurely followed him through the house, David and Baz tailing me. I know that most of our men will be making their way to the building and will be following us inside to search for Beth. We walk down a corridor that twists and turns but goes on a lot longer than the depth of the building. After a couple of minutes, the temperature drops slightly, as if we are under the ground. “We must be in the hillock.” I heard my father comment from behind us, but I just continued in silence. The sides of the corridor change to stone as the path starts to slope downwards. Echoes come from further on, but as the path bends, we cannot see the commotion that we can hear. I pause when I hear several sets of footsteps racing in our direction and prepare myself for a fight. Slight shuffling behind me, tells me that everyone else is prepared for a defensive action coming our way. A minute later, two men rushed round the bend and slid to a stop in front of us. “Who are you? What do you want?” One of them demanded. “My name is Connor; I am the Alpha heir of the Moonstone Pack and I have come to take back my mate.” I growled, advancing towards the two men. They back up slightly, knowing that they are outnumbered, “Your mate? All the women here have been here for years.” The other man shrugs, still backing off. “My mate’s name is Beth. She was kidn*pped less than a week ago and I want her back.” I growled, jumping forward and grabbing one of the men, my arm going around his neck in a choke hold as he struggled to escape. I know by his scent he is a rogue werewolf, but I am an Alpha, I have a silver wolf and he won’t escape from me. The other man turns tail and runs back the way he came, screaming, “We’re under attack! We’re under attack!” Holding my captive securely, I lowered my mouth to his ear, as our men squeezed past us to chase after the other man. “Now tell me where my mate is.”
