CHAPTER 1

Katherine Whitlock Jay twirled the bottle until it landed on me. All eyes are staring at me. Waiting for my answer. " Dare...." I said confidently. I could see a smirk playing out from Gabriel’s lips. Right in the middle of the intense situation, the campus President, Austin, walks in and a wide grin comes from Jay’s lips. I bet something’s up with their little mind. “ I dare you to capture Austin’s heart. You’ll only have one month. “ Gabriel says proudly while his gray eyes stare at me with a mix of joy and satisfaction. " Easy as pie," A soft gasp escape my lips as Gabriel’s dare echoed through the room " Don't be too easy on him. You know he’s a dragon. He’s hard to tame in.” Gabriel reminded me with a warning sign but I just smiled knowing that I would win this challenge. Their eyes are fixed on me, a mix of disbelief and excitement crosses their face seeing how I manage to stay calm and nonchalant with this challenge. " And if you fail..... the consequences are up Khai" he added while winking at me. I rolled my eyes trying to act still despite my heart beating fast seeing how I’ll end up with the campus President. “ Deal,” I said, shaking my hands with them. This will be easy. Mr. President! Here I come! Things are about to change. I will make you mine sooner or later. Nobody has dared to defeat me. I’m winning this game! While heading into our first period class, I sat by the window and the trees began swaying their way with each other. The sunlight cast shadows across the floor. As usual the professor was late; the atmosphere in the room was full of noisy students. Everyone is busy doing their own stuff, so I decided to scroll through my phone and ease the boredom inside me. A sudden silence erupted in the room, jolting me from reality. I heard footsteps coming by. I slowly looked up to see Austin walking inside. Eyes are fixed at him and I find myself staring at his blue eyes. I can’t help but admire those blue eyes that look like an ocean yet can be as deadly as the sea. A small smirk formed my lip. The game begins now baby…. I watched as he made his way towards me without looking back. I’ve sensed eyes glaring hot at me. I’ve ignored it and focused on my challenge. “ Mr. President! Nice seeing you here ! How ya doin’ We’ve been charmed by your handsomeness. Gosh! Those blue eyes are so beautiful “ I said in a flirtatious tone while he sat next to me. I tried to act so attractive to him and gave my best smile yet he clenched his jaw and gave me a poker face. Really? How thoughtful of him! I opened my mouth to speak again but he stared at me coldly before speaking. “ Stop talking. The prof’s here,” he snapped with this cold demeanor and shifted his attention towards the front. Wow! I’m sure I can melt that cold heart of his. In the middle of the class, instead of focusing on the professor. I render myself studying Austin’s aura. I can’t help but stare at his Adam apples movement and the curvy jawline that makes him stand out. I assume this guy has a lot to show, not just appearance. He seems qualified already to the standard. He’s smart and skillful yet a cold heartless man. No wonder why girls are so attracted to him. He looks hot as hell! But I’m not that easily swayed. “ Miss Whitlock? Would you mind explaining to us the plot of Romeo and Juliet?’ I immediately shifted my attention towards the professor who is now gazing at me while crossing her arms. I stood up and cleared my throat. I felt everyone was now staring at me, waiting for my response. I took a deep breath and put on a smile before answering. “ Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where two main characters are supposed to be sworn enemies but fall in love” I answered proudly but before I could take a seat another question had landed on me again. “ Do you think fighting for their love is worth it?” “ Obviously, I believe that their love is something that is worth fighting for ... .simple, because it gives both of them a sense of meaning and purpose in life. Their love was forbidden and dangerous, yet they chose to fight for it because they felt it was worth risking for. “ I answered before sitting down. “ I believe Miss Whitlock their love isn’t worth fighting for” I heard a cold voice interject me. I turned to face Austin with a challenging look. He stared at me for a while before facing the professor. The smirk escaped on his lips before he spoke up. Is he challenging me right now? Let’s see then. “ And why is that Mr. Marshall?” The professor asked with a look of curiosity in her eyes. I watched as Austin explained why their love isn’t fighting for. “ Look, they did fight for their love. Yet they died. So where’s the worth if they both died?” He questioned and I felt his blue eyes staring at me. I can see the challenges mixing in his face. “ Mr. Marshall, I would argue. Yes, Romeo and Juliet’s love did lead to their tragic ending. But it wasn’t their love itself that was flawed rather than the circumstance surrounding it.” I raise an eyebrow while fighting for my side. How could he? It is worth the fight! I felt the heated tension inside the room. With those stares I received from students thus I remained stoic and sat on my chair as did Austin. “ Thank you Mr. Marshall and Miss Whitlock for the very insightful argument you gave. I do appreciate it. “ The professor said, giving us those angelic smiles and some students gave a clapping remark. I focused my attention on the lesson, still my mind lingers the debate I had with Austin. I trace his movements and I find myself drowning in him. This is just the beginning Mr. Marshall. The bell rang and students began to fix their things. I remained still in my position, not bothered by the noises I heard as they exited the room. I felt Austin fixing his things and about to exit, I can’t let him pass me. I muttered and rushed to where he was. “ Hey! Want to go to the canteen with me?” I asked while I caught up with him. A silence came from him and the blaring noises of the students can be heard as we walk to the hallway. “ No, I’ll eat at the office,” he said in his casual tone, not even looking at my gaze. I caught up with him, trying to keep the conversation as light as possible. “ Then can I come?” I asked with a pleading eyes. He stopped walking and gave me this stop-this-nonsense-Katherine look . I felt like I was drawn to his blue eyes. His eyes that send shivers through my whole body. I can’t take my eyes off it. He continued walking while not bothering to answer my question. “ I’m thinking that would be a yes!” I ended up walking with him to his office. As we approach the student government office, we’ve been greeted by students. I tried my best to give them the best smile while Austin just walked without even looking at them. Really? I bet I’ll lose my patience with this guy! No! I’m winning this game. He opened the door to his office and immediately sat on his swivel chair. I sear the room and it’s dimly dark. The sunlight cast bright lights across the window. His nameplate gleamed in the small island of lights beside the lamp. My eyes light up at how his name is written on. It’s enigmatic. “ I thought you’ll be having lunch?” I asked as I saw how his fingers moved at the computer in front of him. Those veiny hands that attract the girls. I studied it for a bit and my eyes landed on his lips. I stared at it for a moment not realizing he was staring at me now. “ Now when you’re around,” he coldly replies while his blue eyes are staring intently at me. “ What do you want, Katherine? “ he added, this time I’ve seen the look on his face. Curiosity. It never bothered me to approach a man in a flirtatious way, but with Austin something’s different. He got something and I’m interested in wrapping it up. I slowly made my way towards where he was, my eyes never leaving his. I watch how his breath adjusts as I move my face beneath his ears. I heard his breathing. “ What do I want? Simple” I whispered in a low tone. “ I want you… Austin” After pulling away, I never thought I would see a shock reaction on his face. Yet I see how his lips form a smirk while gaping at me. “ Be careful what you wish for, Darling” he said in his deep and authoritative voice. My thoughts began to lurch away. I never expect him to reciprocate such flirtatious demeanor on me. Austin Zayne Marshall I let myself study how Katherine’s face turned into a sudden shock. She feels like stumbling right now and I can’t help but smirk at her stupidity. I cleared my throat causing her to gain her composure and from stumbling back to reality. “ Aside from charming me with that look and taking my breath away, how can I claim your heart?” she asked, relishing the challenges in her eyes. She’s a brave girl to ask me that question. Nobody had said that before to me. “ You’re a little feisty huh?” I said, trying to hide my admiration from her. She never fails to make my heart flutter a bit. I feel like getting so close to her and getting on her nerves. I stood up, gently grabbing her waist and pulling her close to me. “ Once I start…. I whispered in her ear. I felt her hot breath in my skin. Her warmth sends jolts to my body. “ there’s no turning back…. Darling” I felt her breathing fast and I like the way I made her do that. I was in the middle of enjoying her getting close to me and how I sent an effect to her body when I heard a knock. I didn't move, I like her in this way when the third knock appears. “ We’re not done yet” I whispered back while gently watching her reaction. I made my way to the swivel chair. “ Come in,” I said in an authoritative voice. The guy flops open the door, holding a brown envelope. “ The p-principal is asking you to s-sign this,” he said, stuttering while shaking his head. I signed the papers and handed them to him .His eyes searched between Katherine and me. His eyes are searching for questions. “ You may now leave” I coldly said, causing him to panic and leave the room immediately . I shifted my attention toward Katherine yet she’s near the doorway already. “ I-I better start heading off. I remember, I still have a ta-ssk to do” she left out stuttering and exited the office. I felt myself smiling when she left. I’m getting a reaction from her. Better prepare now, Katherine Whitlock. Katherine Whitlock As I felt his room, I felt like I was having goosebumps. Him, getting so close makes my heart race so fast that I can’t control. I feel lost when he is near to me and the warmth breaths, it sends my body into a jolt. I let myself disappear the interaction I got with him. I took a deep breath and let this all vanish. Yes! I won’t deny his handsomeness but I’m still on my game track. “ So how’s the move?” I was startled by Jay’s sudden appearance in front of me. He’s wearing a huge grin on his face. “ Well looks like he’ll fall into the game sooner or later. I explained with a wide smile trying to act cool in front of him. He raises his eyebrow in disbelief as he processes the words I said to him. But his grin slowly turns into a smirk. “ Let's see Khai. We’re counting on you.” he left me in the middle of the hallway. He walks out of my sight and that leaves me thinking of the weeks I got to make him fall for me. Just wait and you’ll see. I mutter to myself as I head out. “ Katherine Whitlock, will you come to my office dear?” A soft voice came saying, as I slowly made my way to turn, it was Mrs. Hart wearing one of her angelic smiles in front of me. I did my best to smile at her. I walk to follow her and every step I take, it feels so heavy. I wonder why she asked me to come here. I haven’t done anything wrong! I was left frozen in front of the door as I saw a familiar figure of a guy. Those muscular bodies I remembered. Austin. What on earth is he doing here? “ Have a seat,” she gestured to the empty chair beside Austin. I looked at him but his eyes were glued on Mrs. Hart. I felt my heart begin to beat fast each passing minute I stayed in this room. The blaring silence is killing me and I left no choice but to ask Mrs. Hart. “ Is there something wrong that I do?” A soft chuckle came from Mrs. Hart and I were left puzzled by her sudden outburst. Did I do something wrong? “ No, dear, Khai, I’ve called you here to announce about the upcoming program tomorrow night. You and Austin will be handling the program. Since you’re the faculty leader and Austin’s the campus president. “ I was left agape. Is this for real? I looked at her face to search for any sign of scheme but she wasn't. Her face is filled with determination and resilience. I took a deep breath and gave Mrs. Hart my friendly smile before looking at Austin. “ What do you think? You two are a good fit for this event” She added with her tone jam with excitement. “ That would not be a problem, Mrs. Hart. We’ll promise to give this program the best it could abe” I said sweetly to her while trying not to show my frustration. “ Good! I’ll be here if you need anything!” she finally remarked before we left the room. I sighed after having such a quick conversation with Mrs. Hart. Outside, the soft breeze of the wind flips my hair. I turned to look at Austin but he was so chill as ever. “ So what’s the plan?” I asked, trying to catch up with him. “ Please walk slowly” I added as he walks so fast, it’s hard to catch up with him. He walked slowly and turned to face me with one of his expressionless looks. “ We’ll settle things first.” “ Oh? Should we also settle things between us?” I tease and that made him glare at me. I bet I’m getting under his nerves already. One more push and my luck is coming.
