Chapter 5

Clarissa paced, her hand to her lips, in her room. It was night time yet her son was not with her. She could not sleep. What if something was happening to her child at that moment? What if he was not safe? What if something had happened to him? Her mind was unsettled. She was worried. “You are not sleeping?” Scott questioned. He had woken up, just in time. He looked at the time, it was just few minutes after one. He looked at his wife, she didn’t look okay. “I cannot sleep” She confessed as she looked at him. She sat on the bed and buried her head in her palm. Scott shook his head. What could be the matter with her? He didn’t want to believe she was not sleeping because her child was with his mother? No, it could not be. “Why? What is the matter?” He drew her closer. Her eyes was swollen. Has she being crying? He questioned himself. “Did you cry?” He questioned again but there was no response. “Talk to me” He placed a kiss to her face. “I am worried. He cannot see. He cannot protect himself. He is too young and your mother…” “She is not a witch. She cannot possibly kill him!” He cut her short. “She is old! If anything happens, she will not be able to protect him. I have this feeling inside of me that all is not right. Something is wrong with my son!” Tears began to flow from her eyes again. Scott immediately understood. Of course, his mother was getting quite old. Although his mother's quarter was not too much of a distance from his place, he could not go to get him as his mother would be upset. He sighed and drew his wife closer, placing kisses on her lips and face. “Nothing would happen to our son. He would be perfectly okay” He assured her as he placed her head on his shoulder. He shook off the feeling of fear as he was beginning to fear too. ‘Shuu’ He scared off the rat that was running under the table, looking for what to eat. Seeing him, the rat sped off. Anna, Scott's mother stood up as she looked by her side. She touched the bed even though it was dark in the night. Her heart skipped a bit that very minute. Where could the little boy have gone? She jumped off quickly and began to look for him. Quickly, she lit up a candle and threw a jacket on as it was cold. “Damien! Damien! Damien!” She called but there was no response. Fear gripped her immediately. Did their enemies attack or something? Her leg stumbled on something and she almost fell. Wondering what it was, she stooped low to see. She gasped in fear and quickly covered her mouth. Carissa dozed off. Scott could not sleep. His mind raced away. What if something happened? What if their enemies attacked? Perhaps, he should go get him by morning. He looked up at the clock. It was about 3am. How time flies! He never expected time to have flown that much. He placed Carissa gently on the bed and got up, tip toeing. He grabbed a garment from the hanger that was close to their bed. He hurriedly wrapped the garment around his body and went out, as he could no longer sleep. He had tried to sleep but sleep didn’t seem to come any longer. He walked closer to Bryan's room so as to meet him to discuss some security matters since he was not sleepy. ‘Bryan’ He called as he stood by the entrance of Bryan's room. There was no response. He called again but there was still no response. He pushed the door opened but there was no one there. ‘Bryan!” He called but there was no response. What could he have gone at that time of the morning? He sat down in the room waiting for Bryan. Somehow, he felt uneasy. Could something have gone wrong? No. Bryan could save himself no matter what happened. He placed his head on one of the tables in the room. Bryan was a very good friend of his whom had always had his back whenever he was in trouble. After Carissa and Damien, Bryan was the next to his heart. He didn’t know when he dozed off to sleep. “My Alpha” Bryan's voice interrupted his sleep. He quickly jumped off from the table. “Jeez” Scott placed his hand on his chest as it raced so hard like it was going to fall any moment soon. “You scared me” Bryan chuckled as he sat down, grabbing an handkerchief as he was covered in sweats. He rubbed off the sweats with the handkerchief. “Where have you been? Where are you coming from at this time of the night?” “Predawn my friend. Early hours of the morning. By the way, what are you doing in my room?” He questioned as he brought out two glasses and a bottle of wine. “I could not sleep” He held his forehead. “Oh. Sorry about that. I also could not sleep so I had to go ease off some ‘tension’ “ He smiled. Scott looked at him for a while and began to laugh. “You bastard! Messing with my maids at this time of the morning, yea? What if Damien was here to have seen you?” Alpha Scott could not control his laughter. “You need a wife, you know? I hope you did not force her? You need to get a bride because I do not want you impregnating my maids” Anna shrieked in fear as she saw the bracelet on the floor. It was the protection band his mother had worn on his wrist. She gasped as she covered her mouth. Nothing should happen to Damien. Anna got up and began to run further. She stopped, dead in her tracks at the figure she saw right in front of her. “Damien!”
