Gwen and Ocean could not bring themselves to the reality that something could have gone wrong or anyone could have died.
Just then, the door flung open with a threatening thunder releasing a gasp from their mouth.
“Mother!” They yelled in unison, a smile eluding their lips. Their mother stood by the door, leaping in, blood dripping from her mouth.
Hurriedly, Gwen picked up their mother and helped her sit on a chair.
“Mother, you scared us!” Ocean yelled, tears almost falling from her eyes. Fear and worry were written all over her face.
She walked closer to her mother and placed her head on her lap while Gwen sat by their side. Their mother began stroking Ocean's hair as she lay on her lap.
“I am very sorry to have left you alone but I thirst for blood so I had to go get some. I wasn’t okay and I was glad I found some people to deal with. Some humans…”
“Hold on mother, you mean you... You killed those bodies that were hung on the tree of justice?” Gwen's eyes widened in shock.
“Yes, I did” A devilish smile found its way to their lips. It was not something new or strange after all they are witches. Gwen and Ocean could not believe how their mother had gained the strength to kill them all as werewolves were not as easy to kill as humans.
They became worried as they knew their mother would have been weaker even though she did not look like it.
“You did great, mama” Ocean smiled, the initial look of fear evaporating from her face.
“Did great?” Gwen scoffed. Even though it was a norm, Gwen was never comfortable with it. She did not like the fact that they would murder anyone anytime.
‘They deserve a life too' She would say but her mother was always quick to rebuke her. Their mother had tried severally to make Gwen understand it was a normal thing and nothing was wrong.
‘Oh Gwendolyn, this is who we are. This is us!’ Her mother has tried to explain a series of times but it did not seem right.
It still didn’t sit with her. Again, the door flung open, bringing her out of her thought.
“Oh, mother” Andrea stood by the door, her hand on her forehead. “I have searched everywhere for you, the nook and crannies of this town yet I could not find you. “
Quickly, she walked over to her mother to examine her. Ocean stood up from her mother’s lap and placed her head on the sofa.
They had expected Andrea to dish out dinner for them but the shock was an understatement for how they felt when they realized she had not made dinner.
What then was she doing? All she had to do was watch over their mother and make dinner but then, she failed in doing any of it.
“I am very sorry, I went in search of the mother” She explained but they were not having it. That was not the first time Andrea was doing that.
She would not make dinner or breakfast or lunch yet there was nothing she was doing.
Every single time it happened, she always had something to say. She always had flimsy excuses to give.
“Good night mother” Ocean stood up in frustration. Before their mother could say a word, Gwen stood up too in anger and went to bed.
The two sisters walked to their room together as shared the same room. They were going to sleep hungry again.
Both girls lay on the same bed, side by side. They were too angry to even say anything to each other.
“Stop, leave me alone!” Gwen yelled as she jumped off their bed and began to run. She looked back occasionally to be sure they were not close to her.
Fear gripped her heart as she ran quickly to their mother's room. Her mother was there, on her bed, face flat.
“Mother, wake up!” She tapped her mother quickly but her mother refused to get up. “Mother, please, wake up!” She hit her quickly but her mother refused to get up.
Gwen gathered all the strength she had and pushed her mother so she could see her face. She gasped as she sighted her mother’s face.
Her eyes were gone, her heart was gone, and blood flew from every opening of her mother, even her skin. What was going on? She staggered and fell backward, covering her mouth.
She could hear them talking, searching for her. They were werewolves. Perhaps, they had come to take vengeance for what her mother had done? She could not give up so quickly. She stood up again and ran quickly to Andrea’s room to find solace.
“Wake up, Andrea, we are in trouble!” Gwen tapped Andrea but Andrea didn’t get up. “Andrea, trouble is looming. We are in trouble. They have come for us. They have come for vengeance” She cried as she tapped Andrea.
“You are hallucinating” Andrea answered, not moving an eyelid as she refused to get up. “Nothing is wrong”
“Something is wrong. You do not seem to understand. We are in trouble. They have killed my mother and I cannot find Ocean. Let us leave before we are next!”
She shivered as she suddenly felt cold like the arms of death were embracing her. She could hear their voice in her head, crying for vengeance. Andrea still didn’t want to move.
Just as she was about to move to run away, she was taken aback when she saw Andrea, beginning to bleed from her skin. What was going on? She was confused immediately. Was it a dream?
Was she hallucinating as Andrea had said? No! It was real.
She dashed out of Andrea's room in search of Ocean. Whatever was going on, she needed to know. Ocean wore a smile as she was making breakfast.
“Ocean, we are in trouble.
The werewolf's mother had killed are back for vengeance. They are here to kill us!” Fear was boldly written all over her face. Ocean stood, dumbstruck.
The smile on her face disappeared into thin air. Ocean stood in shock. Somehow, she didn’t believe Gwen.
Perhaps, it was one of her numerous jokes. It was not getting any funny if it was. She shook her head and continued with her dish.
Gwen is determined to escape with Ocean no matter what. Just then, she heard the slicing of flesh.
“Ocean!”
