Rico's in-depth research had shown that the Suyonons (presumably being Malayan and Chinese) have become very good ship builders, seaman and traders; innate into their being, they have proven to be very good sailors. This is because Suyo is a tiny island being surrounded by big islands of Mindoro, Panay, Negros and Palawan within the famous Sea of Light. The Suyonons have nowhere to go but to the sea for fishing and sailing. It has been recorded that the island of Suyo is very popular place among Chinese. It has also been recorded that Suyo was a commercial hub for Arab and Indian sailors and traders at that period of time.
