Chapter 17

"Why do I get the feeling that this is a trap?" Alison asked as we walked through the shadows towards the exit. "That's because it is a trap," I answered. "Then let's hope there's another way out of here, otherwise we might have to shadow travel our way out of here." When we finally arrived at the exit, I could hear voices on the other side of the door, one of them was Derek. "Don't worry," Derek was saying, "there are no other exits, they're coming from Flemings and that tunnel leads to this dressing room." "You better be right, Hale," said another voice that I recognized as Connor, "otherwise the deal's off." "You promised me that you would be able to break Anna and Peter's bond," Derek said angrily, "and that her bond with me would be unbreakable once it was made." "Only if you bring Anna to us alive," Connor said. "And what are you going to do with her once she gets here?" "That's none of your concern, but as I said before, if Ms. Anderson doesn't show up, it'll be your job to hunt her down and, if you want, I can grant you the honor of killing her and her pack." "It would be my pleasure." "I"ve heard enough," I whispered, "let's get back to the others." Alison and Taylor nodded, and we quickly returned to where we left Peter, who was anxiously pacing, and Mr. Montgomery, who was also pacing. "We have a problem," I said once we had stepped out of the shadows, "Derek tipped off the Argents that we were going to Flemings and now both him and Connor are waiting at the exit. Derek also made a deal with Connor that if he brought me in, Connor had a way of breaking the bond between Peter and me and that if I bonded with Derek, that bond would be unbreakable." "Connor's lying through his ass," Peter said angrily, "he knows damn well that a bond between a mated pair is unbreakable, especially if it's between an alpha and their mate." "Then why make a promise that he can't keep?" "Did Connor say anything about hiring Derek for other services?" "Yes, he said that if I didn't show up, it would be Derek's job to hunt me down and kill me and my pack mates." "What are we going to do?" Taylor asked, "we can't exactly go back to the Bone Yard." "Taylor's right," Mr. Montgomery said with a sigh, "with Derek's betrayal, the Bone Yard is compromised, so I need to call Agatha and let her know we need to relocate the Bone Yard immediately." "So where do we go?" Alison asked, "no offense, dad, but we can't exactly stay down here and if the Bone Yard is compromised, so are the safe houses." "Peter, I need you to call Stiles, we need to get you and the girls and any other hellhound out of California immediately." "But what about you and mom?" Alison asked as Peter made the call, "we're not leaving you behind." "Unfortunately, this is how it's going to be," Mr. Montgomery said with a sigh, "if too many supernaturals disappear at once, the Argents will get suspicious and the last thing we need is to have them poking around." "How many hellhounds are there in California exactly?" I asked. "You remember Amber?" I nodded, "she's the only other hellhound, besides you three, that I've managed to save here in California." "But how do we warn her?" "You, as the alpha, must call out to her, and she'll come to you." I nodded and tipped my head back and let out a howl that shook the walls of the tunnel and immediately, there was an answering howl back. "Amber's on her way," I said. By now, Peter had finished his call and had joined me by my side. "Stiles has found a place where we can hunker down until we can make our next move," he said. He then handed me a piece of paper with an address on it. "Do you think you ladies can shadow travel to this address?" "That's all the way in Montana," Alison said, looking over my shoulder, "it might take a few shadow jumps, but we can make it." "Make it where?" said a voice from behind us. We all turned to find Amber coming towards us. She looked worried and I couldn't blame her. "We're getting the hell out of here," I answered. I then noticed another girl standing behind Amber. "Who's your friend?" "This is my mate, Malia," Amber answered, "she heard your call like I did. We left the Bone Yard just as everyone was packing up and leaving through the portals." I looked over at Malia and I couldn't help but notice that she looked like Peter and I raised my eyebrows questionably at him. "It was a long time ago, but Malia is my daughter," Peter said with a sigh, "but don't worry, her mother, who's a crazy b***h, is not in the picture and hasn't been for a long time." I nodded and held out my hand to her. "Welcome to the hell pack Malia," I said with a smile. "Thanks," she said, shaking my hand. "I hate to break this up, but you guys should really get going," Mr. Montgomery said. "What about you?" I asked, "do you need us to drop you off somewhere?" Mr. Montgomery nodded and gave me an address and once we dropped him off at his house, the rest of us didn't waste any time in getting the hell out of California. "We should change our numbers," Peter said as we stepped out of the shadows in Houston, Texas, "I don't want to risk Derek tracking our phones." "Wouldn't he be able to track our scent anyway?" I asked as we headed into a Cricket store, "changing our numbers seems a little redundant." "That's the beauty of being a hellhound," Alison said quietly, "not only do we have the ability to hide our own scents, but we can do the same to the people around us and that includes our mates as well." I nodded, this made me feel slightly better, but I wasn't about to let my guard down that easily. When we finally got our numbers along with our sim cards changed, we quickly left the Cricket store to find a place to crash for the night. "Stiles informed me that he wired some money to a private account for emergencies," Peter said when we finally came across a motel, "but don't worry, it's untraceable." When we paid for our room, which contained two queen beds and a roll away bed, we all quietly got ready for bed as best we could and then crashed, Peter and I had one bed, Malia and Amber had the other and Alison and Taylor had the roll away bed. "We need to make a plan," I whispered as I snuggled into Peter's side, "you and I both know that Derek's not going to stop until he finds us." "Don't worry babe," Peter said, kissing my forehead, "you have a whole pack behind you, we'll figure something out." "As long as Derek pays for what he did, I don't care." "Oh, believe me, he will."
