"Where the hell have you two been?" Derek asked when Peter and I finally arrived back at the house.
"None of your damn business," I answered.
"It is my business if it concerns my mate," Derek growled, crossing his arms and glaring at me, "so I'll ask you again, where the hell have you been?"
"Anna's not your mate," Peter said, a little too smugly, "unfortunately for you, you're too late, I've already claimed her as mine."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Before either Peter or I could elaborate, Derek came up to me and sniffed my neck. He let out a growl and took a couple steps back. "How could you do this to me Anna?" he asked, his eyes flashing angrily, "I thought you were joking when you chose Peter over me."
"Well, clearly I wasn't," I said, glaring back at Derek, "Peter has been there for me ever since I arrived here. You, on the other hand, have only tried to force me to be your mate because it'll make you look good. Admit it Derek, you only want to be my mate because I'm an alpha."
"That's not true," Derek said, but I clearly heard his heart stutter, indicating that he was lying through his ass and I just rolled my eyes.
"You know I can hear your heartbeat, right?" I asked, crossing my arms and glaring at him, "or did you forget that I'm a wolf too?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Derek said innocently.
"I know you're lying about only wanting to be with me because I'm an alpha," I said sternly, "you're heart is literally racing, what's wrong Derek, scared of a little competition?"
"I just think we'd be good together," he sighed, "you could've at least given me a chance."
"Well, you're too late," I said, rolling my eyes in annoyance, "I'm with Peter now, so back off."
"You heard her Derek," Peter said, pulling me closer to his side, "Anna's my mate, not yours, so I'd appreciate it if you back away from my mate, and you know that I'll only ask nicely once."
"You probably forced her into becoming your mate," Derek said angrily, not backing down, "and you and I both know that a forced bond can easily be broken."
"I hate to disappoint you Derek, but we performed the mating bond the right way, which, by the way, includes me making a promise before the bite that seals the bond."
"Really, and what promise is that?"
"That's between me and Anna." By now Alison and Taylor had joined us on the front porch.
"I think It's time for you to leave Derek," Alison said, crossing her arms, "I just got off the phone with my dad and he says that you're no longer welcome in his house and that you're fired, effective immediately."
"You can't fire me!" Derek said, his voice rising, "you don't have the authority."
"Actually, she does," Mr. Montgomery said from behind me. I turned to find him coming up the driveway. "I made Alison my office manager, which gives her the power to hire and fire, this morning."
"You have no right to fire me old man!" Derek growled, getting right up in Mr. Montgomery's face, "I've worked for you for five years."
"I have every right to fire you Derek," Mr. Montgomery said, "your actions as of late have been unacceptable."
"All I've done was ask Anna to be my mate."
"And she has told you numerous times that she wasn't interested, so I suggest you get the hell off my property before I call the police."
"I'm not leaving until Anna agrees to become my mate," Derek growled. He then looked towards me and held out his hand. "Anna, please, Peter doesn't deserve you. Together we can The Bone Yard stronger and with you by my side, we'll be unstoppable."
"No Derek," I said, looking him dead in the eyes, "I've chosen Peter as my mate, and like he said, we've already sealed out bond as mates." I heard a gasp of surprise from both Alison and Taylor, but I didn't turn my gaze away from Derek until he looked away first.
"You're going to regret this," he said as he walked away, "I'll make damn sure that no other hellhound ever finds you, your kind will go extinct, and once you finally realize that, you'll come crawling back to me." When Derek finally left, Alison pulled me into a warm hug.
"Congratulations Anna," she said, taking a step back, "you and Peter deserve each other."
"It's about damn time," Taylor said, also giving me a hug, "I thought Peter would never have the balls to pop the question."
"Thanks a lot Taylor," Peter said, but I could hear the smile in his voice.
"Seems to me we have a means to celebrate," Mr. Montgomery said with a smile, "how about I make reservations for a private room at Flemings to celebrate the happy couple?" Peter and I nodded out thanks and once Mr. Montgomery headed back inside, I turned back to Alison with a worried look on my face.
"Should we be worried about Derek's threat?"
"Absolutely, but don't worry, hellhounds are notoriously known for staying out of sight. We can only be found unless we want to be found. We also have a gift for hiding our scent from other predators and supernatural creatures." I nodded as we headed into the house, but I still had a bad feeling that Derek might do something stupid or even drastic. When we finally arrived at Flemings, the hostess led us to a private room and took our drink orders and when she left, Mr. Montgomery smiled at both Peter and me.
"I want to express my congratulations to you both," he said, shaking Peter's hand and then turning his smile towards me, "even if your parents aren't here to give you their blessings on your bond, I know they'd be very proud of you and the woman that you're becoming, so in their stead, I would like to give you both my blessing."
"Thank you, Mr. Montgomery," I said, just as our drinks arrived. Mr. Montgimery raised his glass and we all followed suite.
"To the happy couple," he said, toasting in mine and Peter's direction, "and may you have many happy years ahead of you."
"Hear hear," Taylor said as we all took a drink. After that, we ordered our meals and when we were just sitting around enjoying each others other's company, there was a commotion out in the main restaurant.
"What the hell is going on out there?" Mr. Montgomery asked, looking towards the door. I tilted my head to the side so I could better hear the conversation.
"I'm lieutenant Nelson, and my officers and I got an anonymous tip that you have a wanted felon dinning here at your establishment."
"And what's the name of this person?" this sounded like our hostess and I had to give her credit, she was doing a good job of keeping her composure.
"Her name is Anastasia Anderson," Lieutenant Nelson answered, "and I have a warrant for her arrest."
"Does the name Lieutenant Nelson mean anything to anyone?" I asked.
"He's a bounty hunter on the Argent's parole," Peter answered, "why do you ask?"
"Apparently he has a warrant for my arrest."
"We need to leave," Mr. Montgomery said, standing up immediately, "If Nelson is here, we're going to be in huge trouble if he finds us, especially Anna."
"But we're bounty hunters too," Alison said as Mr. Montgomery led us to a hidden door at the back of the room, "we can take him."
"That would be suicide," Peter said as we filed into what looked like a tunnel, "Jakob Nelson is not only a bounty hunter, he's also an army trained assassin and even I'm not stupid enough to take him on."
"How did he even knew we were here?" I asked as the door closed behind us, and we started to follow Mr. Montgomery for what felt like a couple blocks, "he said that he got an anonymous call that we we were at Flemings, but as far as know, nobody knew we were going to be there."
"I have a feeling who might've tipped him off," Peter muttered angrily and I think I did too.
"Everyone, stop," I ordered and they all turned to look at me. "Mr. Montgomery, who else knows about this passageway and has access to it?"
"Only those who have high security clearance can access this tunnel," he answered.
"Including Derek?"
"Yes, but don't worry, he won't be able to access the doors anymore, I revoked his security clearances this morning."
"But he still knows where this tunnel ends up right?" Mr. Montgomery nodded and that was all the confirmation I needed. "And where exactly does this tunnel end up?"
"Dressing room three at the Peacock Theater," Mr. Montgomery answered, "why?" But I had already melted into the shadows along with Alison and Taylor.
"Only those who have high security clearance
