I let out an earsplitting roar as soon as I came to. This caused the whole room to shake and everyone to take a step back. "It's okay, Anna," Peter said as he slowly walked towards me with his hands up in a placating gesture, "you're safe now."
"Where the hell am I?" I asked when I finally came down from my fight or flight instinct.
"You're in the infirmary of The Bone Yard headquarters," Peter answered, taking my hand and giving it a comforting squeeze, "after the attack, Alison called her dad, and he immediately sent a helicopter to come get you and had you airlifted back to headquarters."
"How long was I out?"
"Two days."
"Are Taylor and Alison okay?"
"They're both a little shaken up, but otherwise they're fine." Before I could ask any more questions, both Taylor and Alison burst into the room with similar looks of worry on their faces.
"Thank god you're okay," Alison said, coming over to give me a quick hug, "we thought weren't going to wake up."
"Damn girl, you scared the crap out of us when you shifted earlier," Taylor said with a smirk, "Derek almost wet himself when you tried to lunge at him, but unfortunately, Alison and I had to hold you down, but don't worry, nobody was hurt."
"Are you saying that I shifted in my sleep?" I asked incredulously.
"Damn right you did," Taylor answered with a grin, "and I gotta say, your wolf is really impressive, even for a hell hound."
"That's an understatement," Alison said, but seeing my nervous glance towards Peter, she smiled, "don't worry, we already told Peter what we are and he's actually okay with it."
"And what about Derek?" I asked worriedly.
"Derek thinks that we have a poltergeist," Taylor said, rolling her eyes, "so he's on a rampage to have a security detail put in place for you."
"I don't need a god damn security detail," I said angrily, "you can tell Derek to stick it up his ass because I can take care of myself."
"We tried," Taylor said with a sigh, "but he wouldn't listen."
"And it's a good thing that I didn't," Derek said from the doorway, "you could've been killed Anna."
"And who gave you the right to make decisions for me?" I asked angrily, crossing my arms and glaring at him, "you know damn well that I can take care of myself."
"Clearly you can't, considering that you literally got mauled by god knows what."
"I was protecting my friends," I said as I got out of bed, "so you have no right to make decisions for me."
"There's a poltergeist loose in the community," Derek said, glaring back at me, "so you're going to have a security detail, whether you like it or not."
"You're not the boss of me Derek Hale," I said angrily, getting right into his personal space and poking him in the chest, "and if you ever try to make decisions for me again, I'll put the fear of god in you."
"This isn't up for debate Anastasia," Derek said, crossing his arms, "I'm not going to let my mate roam around while a poltergeist is____" before he could finish, I was halfway through shifting and I grabbed him by the neck and slammed him against the wall.
"Lets get something very clear," I growled, I could feel my teeth elongating and my body stretching towards the ceiling, "I'm not your mate, I never was, and I never will be, so I suggest you get that through your head, do you understand me?" Derek only glared defiantly back at me and a low, rumbling growl. "ANSWER ME!" With that final growl, Derek's eyes glowed blue and he eventually looked away.
"Yes, I understand," he whispered and with that, I dropped him to ground and took a step back.
"Call off the security detail Derek," I said as he got gingerly to his feet, still not looking at me, "and stay the hell away from me." After Derek had left, I turned around to find everyone staring at me.
"Why didn't you tell us you were an alpha?" Alison asked, "and not just any alpha either, apparently." I had my suspicions of what she meant, but I decided to play dumb, no way was I going to tell them that I was in contact with Lupa and that she named me her successor.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Girl, you do realize that you're the alpha of the hell pack, right?" Alison asked, "the fact that you managed to get Derek to submit so easily, makes you not only strong, but also very powerful because he doesn't tend to back down easily."
"Someone had to put Derek in his place," Peter said proudly as he pulled me to his side, "he needs to realize that you're in charge and that you're the alpha and he's not."
"Isn't Scot an alpha as well?" I asked curiously as a nurse came in to check me over and then deemed me fit to leave.
"Scot's the alpha of the werewolves," Peter answered as we walked out of the infirmary, " and of what I understand, you're the alpha of the hell hounds, which, to my understanding, are completely different from werewolves." I didn't tell him that Lupa had named me the wolf goddess on top of being the alpha of the hell pack, no need to make things even more complicated than they already were. When we finally arrived back at the house, Derek was already waiting for us.
"What the hell are you doing here Derek?" I asked angrily, "I thought I made it clear that I wasn't interested."
"I just wanted a chance with you," he begged as we got closer to the porch, "I know my actions haven't been up to par, but I want you know that I'll do whatever it takes to earn your trust."
"What part of 'not interested' did you not understand?" I asked, getting right up in Derek's face, "so back back off or I'll be forced to take legal action because this is harassment."
"It's not harassment if the feelings are real," Derek persisted, "please, Anna, give me a chance, you won't regret it."
"My answer is no," I answered, "I've made up my mind Derek. You don't respect me, Peter does and all you want to do is use me for your own gain, so don't you dare start asking for second chances now." With that, I shoved past him with Peter and the others following close behind.
"You do realize he's not going to give up, right?" Taylor asked as we all headed to the kitchen, "you might want to consider getting a restraining order."
"That's probably a good idea," I said with a sigh, "who do I talk to about that?"
"My dad can get one written up by tomorrow morning," Alison answered as she got out a few frozen pizzas, "I'll talk to him as soon as he gets home." I thanked her and by the time the pizzas were done, Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery had arrived and Alison explained what happened with Derek and asked about a possible restraining order.
"I can have the restraining order written up and processed by the end of the evening," Mr. Montgomery said immediately, "and I'll make damn sure that Derek won't bother you again." I thanked him and after we had finished our pizza, Peter and I headed upstairs to my room.
"You're one amazing woman, you know that?" Peter said as I shut the door behind us, "and unfortunately Derek doesn't see that."
"I just wish he would just leave me alone," I said with a sigh as I started to get ready for bed, "but I'm also worried that he'll do something stupid or drastic."
"Derek just needs to learn to take 'no' for an answer." By now I was in my pajamas and Peter had joined me in bed and was pulling me to his side, "but don't worry, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to protect you because you're my alpha and my loyalty is to you." Peter's admission and promise surprised me, but also it made me appreciate him even more.
"Thank you, Peter," I said as I snuggled into him, "you're always there when I need you."
"I'll always be there for you," he whispered, kissing my neck, "as long as you'll have me, I'll be there." This made me smile as I drifted off to sleep.
