Chapter 8 Hug

1102 Words
Jessica could barely see the road with the faint moonlight. She had forgotten the fear the darkness brought to her because the two men made her more scared. So, she ran fast. Because she had been running in the morning for years, her stamina was much better than that of ordinary people. At least these two yellow-haired young men could not catch up with her. After twenty minutes, Jessica was panting heavily, while the two yellow-haired young men were out of breath and couldn't move forward. "D*mn! The b*tch is good at running." "I can't chase after her anymore. I'm out of breath. I can't run." Suddenly, a bright light appeared on the road ahead. Another car was coming. The yellow-haired young men with evil intentions had guilty consciences. When they saw someone coming, they immediately turned around and ran away in panic. After the car stopped in front of Jessica, the door opened. Then, a slender figure came out and stood against the light. He was good-looking, like an angel. She looked at him in a daze and thought he was her only light. "Chris!" She instantly burst into tears. And all the panic and fear were merged into the call. Then, she rushed toward him, who was the only light in her life. Now, she wanted to hug him! But another car door suddenly opened, and Gail got out and shouted, "Jess! Then, she excitedly ran toward Jessica and hugged her. Jessica instantly sobered up. "Jess, how are you doing? Are you injured?" Gail looked her up and down with concern, pointed at the two young men running away, and asked, "Who are they? Were they chasing you?" "Yes." Jessica lowered her head, not daring to look at her. She felt guilty and ashamed because she had just wanted to hug Chris. "Scumbags!" When Chris heard her words, he immediately guessed what she had just experienced and showed a cold look. When he was about to chase them, Jessica quickly stopped him, saying, "Don't chase after them. You are alone. You can't defeat them. I'm fine. They didn't catch up with me. Let's leave here!" Jessica knew Chris was poor at fighting. This gentleman who used to be a teacher was always against violence. He had only fought for her in anger several times, as he had done at school today. Gail immediately said, "Chris, this place is remote. Don't act rashly. The wisest choice is to retreat. Get in the car." While speaking, she helped Jessica into the car. Chris glanced at the two hateful men about to disappear from his sight. Even if he chased after them now, he couldn't catch up. Moreover, he must not let Jessica worry about him. After all, she looked frightened now. So, he could only get in the car and drive back to the city. The car was quiet. Gail comfortingly held Jessica's hand and gently asked, "Jess, why did you go to such a remote place?" Jessica was still trembling. She shook her head because she didn't want to talk now. She leaned into Gail's arms because it was the last place where she could feel the warmth. Gail softly sighed, "It's OK. Don't be afraid. I will stay with you!" After a pause, she added, "This is Chris. I needed to go to work during the day, so I asked him to help deliver your things to you. You should know each other now. When I drove to find you, my car broke down halfway. So, I called him for help. Fortunately, we arrived in time." Jessica tightly hugged her and said without looking at Chris, "I am lucky to have you." Chris was driving the car. Hearing Gail's introduction, he slightly turned aside and gently said, "I am Gail's friend. Nice to meet you." Jessica immediately froze. "What?" Was he pretending not to know her? He calmly said, "Gail's friends are my friends. I will never tell others about today's incident. Although it is no big deal, it may cause rumors against you." Jessica was speechless, wondering why he was pretending not to know her. Was it because he did not want their past to affect his relationship with Gail? Jessica suddenly felt a pinching pain in her heart. But it was good. She was always willing to give them her best wishes. So, she also decided to pretend not to know him. Then, she closed her eyes, not wanting to say another word. She quietly curled up in Gail's arms and remained quiet as if she were asleep. After they arrived at Gail's apartment, Jessica had a high fever. Too many things had happened in the past two days. She could bear it mentally, but her body couldn't withstand it any longer. The illness attacked like a long-imprisoned demon. It fiercely tried to kill her as soon as it broke free. Jessica gradually lost consciousness because of the high fever but knew Gail cared for her. In the middle of the night, she sweated all over. And her fever finally went down. When she slowly woke up, she felt someone touching her feet. After she opened her eyes with difficulty, her eyes slowly focused. And then, she saw Chris applying medicine to her feet. Because she had walked for several hours and run for nearly half an hour, her fair feet were covered with injuries and blisters. Chris's movements were careful and gentle. He took some medicine with his fingertip each time, applied it to the blisters, and blew on her feet occasionally. He was so careful, as if he was caring for a treasure. "Chris?" Jessica was taken aback and quickly retracted her feet, asking, "Where is Gail?" Seeing her trying to avoid him, Chris felt a sense of loss and said, "She took care of you in the first half of the night. She needs to go to work tomorrow, so I asked her to go to bed." Hearing this, Jessica felt more guilty and said, "I'm much better now. You don't need to stay here. Please go to sleep." Chris turned a deaf ear. He opened the insulated lunch box on the bedside table and softly said, "I know you haven't eaten anything during the day. I made the porridge by myself. It is your favorite vegetable porridge. I'll feed you. Open your mouth." While speaking, he brought the spoon to her mouth. "Enough!" Jessica pushed it away and coldly said, "Chris, what do you want? Do you know what you are doing? Gail is my friend! Are you trying to make me lose her?"
