The Surprise for the Little Doctor

I set here in the office not knowing what those boys have in store for me.  When all of a sudden Sam burst through the door here you are, I was hoping I would find you here. 

I said, “where else would I go it’s not like I can take a nice long walk on the beach in the sunshine.”

Laughing at me he said when did you become a comedian, I told him that is what I learned while you were away, smartass. 

Hey when did you get so mean, I thought we were friends meany” he replied.

I just laughing saying, “what do you want silly I would have never guess the big strong man was so sensitive.”   

He just huffed at me saying you are a bully, I do not even know why I went through all this for someone so mean, as he stuck out his tongue at me.

I followed him down the hall about three doors I walk into what was a patient room but now is a personal movie theater.  With different kinds pizza, different kinds of soda, different kinds of candy, and many other kinds of junk food.  Three big overstuffed comfy reclining chairs, the windows blacked out and a huge screen hanging one wall, with a projector on the opposite wall.  They made me a personal movie theater to watch different movies who would have guessed they could be so sweet.  I turned to leave sniffing when Sam stops me saying, “what is wrong what did we do.” 

I just said, “no one has ever done anything like this for me.  No one has ever done anything nice to me or given me the time of day.  Other than to use my skills for what they needed to save someone they care for.  No one has ever cared for me or even offered me something nice.  Let alone tried to figure out what I might be interested.  This is too much I cannot except this, tell me how much it cost for all of this and I will pay you back.”

He says,” no, no this was something that Aaron and I worked extremely hard on and you are going to give it a try and this food you must try it all I promise you will love it.” 

I looked at him and said, “do you realize how small I am.  There is no way I can eat all that food and what if I do not like then what is there not an orphanage nearby you can give it too, lol.”   

I look at them both with tears running down my face now holding my arms hugging myself.  Aaron comes to me first reaching out wiping the tears away telling me everything is fine nothing cost that much and they really though I would like it.  If I did not though they would take it all down and we can just go back to the office and set.  I looked at the floor having the toughest time trying to decide what to do.

Sam steps up gently lifting my chin he looks into my eyes and says, “just one movie then you can go just give it chance you once told me that everyone judged you without giving you a chance at least let us try to get to know you please.”

I look into his very green eyes and say, “if it will make you happy then I will try one movie but only one.”

The biggest smile I have ever seen appears on his face and he wraps me in the biggest hug I have ever felt it is so tight that I cannot breath and Aaron butts in saying dude I think you are killing her loosen up.

He lets go setting me on the ground after gasping for air he tells me to go to the table and try one of everything.  After picking out what I want he tells me what kind of movie do I want to watch I pick comedy first.  I laugh so hard through the movie that I can barely breath by the end of it.  They both just stared at me saying you know it really is not that funny.  I bounce up and down wanting to know what is next. 

Sam says, “no, no you have to get back to work you only said one remember” grinning for ear to ear happy he know he has hound something I like.

I frowned at him saying, “I will go check on her, but I am coming back that was so much fun, Aaron you pick the next movie.  Do not eat all the chocolate and leave me the funnel cake that stuff is the best.”

Sam sets up and says, “I will walk with you to make sure everything is ok.  While you are busy, I will use the bathroom ok.”

I nod in agreement once in the hall Sam asks, “did you really enjoy everything I hope it is all to your liking it is fun helping you find out new interests.  I just get to pick the next movie after Aaron ok, I have a great one in mind, I think you will love it.”

I shake my head knowing that he most likely wants it to be a scarey movie since he already asks about that genre earlier.  I would give it a chance though just like I have everything else so far, lol.  I check on the little wolf only to find that her vitals are holding strong and the medicine is about a quarter of the way done.  I step out to find Sam waiting on me as we head back, he says, “got another question for you, where do you call home?  I do not mean Alaska I know you have a place there but where were you born?  You see I was born right here in this hospital and have never left the territory this is the only place I know.  I just always wondered what it was like out there.”

I tell him, “The first home I can remember was a city, a very big city with lots of noise and lights.  The city of San Francisco that was the orphanage I was left at by my mother.”

He said, “sorry did not mean to bring up bad memories just curious, I guess.  I have always liked talking to people about places other than here.”

I tell him, “it is ok the city was never quiet, there was trash everywhere, no one was ever nice there was never dark places for me to hide.  The people always mistreated and thought I was nothing more than a slave to work for them and they would always try to stick me in the sun just to watch me suffer.  I do not have every many nice things to say sorry I cannot give you a more pleasant image of the place.”

As we step back into the movie room, I see Aaron shoving his face with nacho’s smiling at me.  Telling me the movie was ready just waiting for me.  I climb over Aaron to my chair in the middle with my plate of food ready to go.  With both boys laughing at me Sam starts the movie halfway through the movie something scares me, and I jump but end up landing right in the middle of Sam’s lap.  So, engrossed in the movie I did not even realize it.  He does not say anything just lets me set there and enjoy the show.  Then I notice I am getting tied lean back and pass out, right on Sam’s lap.  Sam looks over at Aaron mind linking him what do I do leave her here or move her.  I am afraid if I move, she will wake up this is not what I intended but if I do say so myself it is kind of nice.

Arron reply’s, “just leave her she looks very much at peace with herself and safe in your arms.  No one is going to say anything.”

The next thing I know I am opening my eyes to see someone’s chest against my face and arms wrapped around me.  I lift my head to see Sam’s face, he is asleep I look to my left and see Aaron is asleep.  Through the holes in the window covers I can see the sun going down as I start to move Sam stirs.  Looking down at me he says hey little one I see you are awake did you get enough rest.  I slowly shake my head up and down keeping eye contact with the floor.  This is the closes I have ever been to anyone in my entire life and I am not sure what I should be doing.  He lifts by chin, so I am looking into his eyes as he says we have done nothing we wrong, and we completely incent.  You have nothing to fear we just had a good time that is all.

“I get off his lap,” and say, “I need to go check on my patient and freshen up if that is ok a complete a report for Ron.  Ron asked for a report every day on the little pup to make sure everything is fine.”

Both boys understand and say they will be down after cleaning the room and will let Ron know that I will have the report ready in a couple of hours.  I go back to the office and have a small panic attack gather myself and get to work on the pup finding the treatment done and her vitals stable.  I finish the report leave it on the desk and take my shower.  This is how the next 6 weeks ago.  The boys keep coming up with things for me to do allowing to stay close to the pup so I can watch her to make sure she stays stable.  I also take pet scans of her every day to watch the growth of the cancer to only see it decrease faster than expected.

I ask the boys to have Ron meet me instead of having a report ready for him.  I tell them to tell him there have been some changes that I need to report to him in person.  The boys answer ok and make the arrangement for that evening at 11pm my usual meeting time at the fountain.
