Kirill sat at his wheel, not comprehending what had just happened. He’d not been going fast but his van wouldn’t stop. The woman, as if connected to a spring, had risen into the air and disappeared. He thought about her thin body and old age and allowed himself a smile. He had changed his mind about killing her, and he had a witness who would back him up that he hadn’t, but she would still be out of the way. The witness! He must talk to him.
