Chapter Twenty
Hua
The closer Hua rode to Kanyuan, the harder it became to ignore the tension in her body. It took every ounce of will to control her limbs, to fight off the beast trying to take over. What would happen when it came time to fight? If she couldn’t use her speed and agility, she wouldn’t last long.
She lifted her eyes to the sky, searching for Luna in the heavens.
It was gone.
The dragon in the stars, her companion every night for so many months, no longer shone above her. She squeezed her eyes shut and opened them again, but nothing.
A cart rumbled past her, pulled by two massive black steeds. No, not a cart. A battering ram on wooden wheels.
This was what it came to. Destroying the gates of one of their own villages.
