Daxon
Oh s**t, this was going to fall apart more quickly than I thought it would.
All of this and I didn’t even get to hit on Roxanne properly. Now my night was going to be absolutely miserable and Gramps was going to snatch the company away from me so fast it would make my head spin.
My life was over.
“Of course she is,” I blurted out. Both of them turned to look at me. “This is my beautiful fiancee, Roxanne.”
The shock left Roxanne’s face quickly and she smiled. “I sure am. Lucky isn’t he?”
“I’ll say, I mean he didn’t tell us anything about you, but I know he wouldn’t do you justice. You’re stunning.” Gideon shook his head in disbelief. “I honestly can’t believe it.”
“I feel the same way, it all happened so fast!” Roxanne giggled.
“Well let’s see the ring!”
Roxane and I exchanged looks. “She’s not wearing it,” I stated.
“Well why not?” Gideon asked.
“It’s getting resized right now,” Roxanne said quickly. “But I should have it for tomorrow night.”
“Great, really. We wanted to meet tonight, but Daxon said you’re busy?”
“Yep, I have a…rehearsal tonight and Dax is so good at remembering my schedule.” She reached across the table and squeezed my hand.
Wow, she’s actually a great actress! Even I was believing this!
“I have so many questions, but I imagine I can ask them tomorrow night?” Gideon questioned.
“Sure yeah, of course!” Roxanne exclaimed. “I can’t wait.”
“See you then,” Gideon laughed to himself as he walked off.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Roxanne hissed. “Why did you say I was your fiancee?”
“I panicked alright?!” I snapped. “And you went along with it!”
“I took improv classes, I was just yes anding!”
“What am I going to do? This can’t work, I should have just told him the truth!”
“Yeah, that might have been a good idea!” She tossed her head back finishing her drink. “Can I use your phone? I just realized my friends are probably worried sick about me.”
“Of course,” I handed it over to her.
“Bea? It’s Rox. Oh, nothing, I just got hit by a car. I'm fine! Whatever, I’ve only had a few drinks! Can I crash at your place? Well why not? Ugh, you having a life outside of me is incredibly inconvenient!”
I couldn’t help but chuckle. This girl was an absolute nutcase and yet I found her charming.
“Bea I have nowhere to stay! Yeah…yeah I guess I can get a motel or something until I figure this out. I love you too Bumblebee.”
She sighed and handed the phone back to me. “This day just gets worse.”
“Anything I can help with?” I asked. “I kinda feel like I owe you.”
“You definitely do! And I know how you can repay me.” She said firmly. “I need help moving my stuff out of my ex’s place…like now.”
“Of course, yeah. Um…will it fit in my Tesla?” I asked, feeling like such a douche.
“I don’t have a lot of things, so yeah. Are you okay to drive?”
I nodded. “I’m good, let’s get out of here.”
--
“This is a pretty nice place,” I commented when we were in the elevator of Tyson’s building. “He make good money as a director already?”
“No, his family has money. They bought him this place.” She muttered.
I noticed how much her demeanor changed. She seemed on edge and nervous.
Roxanne knocked on the door. A tall guy with messy black hair and kind of pretentious air about him answered the door. His green eyes lit up.
“Rox! I've been calling you all day!”
“Really?” She asked eagerly. “You wanted to talk to me?”
“Of course. I need your key for Dominique.”
“Oh,” Roxanne whispered. “Sorry, my phone broke.”
“Who is this?” Tyson questioned.
“Dax. I’m a friend of Roxanne. Just here to help her out.” I answered.
“Um, okay whatever. I was gonna pack your stuff up, but I didn’t have time.”
“Who is that baby?”
A girl strutted from the hall. She sure was hot. Her red hair was in a heap on top of her head and she had gorgeous light brown eyes that almost seemed golden and an adorable nose. She had sexy pouty lips that looked soft as hell.
“Just Roxanne coming to get her stuff,” Tyson informed her.
I looked over at Roxanne who looked like she was fighting back tears. What kind of piece of s**t would do this to a girl he claimed to love?
“Oh, hi Roxanne! I used your body wash. I hope that’s okay, hun!” Dominique giggled.
“Well, you’re taking my place, why not use my stuff?” Roxanne mumbled.
I watched her walk around the room and pack up her things. This was wildly humiliating and I felt horrible watching this.
“So, did you figure out what you’re going to do?” Tyson asked. “Did you look for jobs or something today?”
“No,” Roxanne whispered. “Just kinda drank all day.”
“Roxanne, I was hoping to pick your brain about something,” Dominique spoke up. “Any acting tips?”
“Dom, come on. Rox has never been in a real film, I don’t know if anything she says will help.” Tyson laughed slightly. “She’s more of a small screen actress in my opinion.”
God, what was wrong with this prick?!
“So, Rox, where are you staying tonight? With Remy and Beatrix?”
“No, their couch is occupied,”
“Aw, too bad. Motel then?” Tyson practically mocked her.
“Actually,” I started. “She’s staying with me, in my mansion.”
Roxanne
I looked over at Daxon with wide eyes.
What was with him and blurting out lies about me?!
“Oh is that so?” Tyson questioned.
“You heard him,” I breathed.
I glanced over at Dominique. She was so gorgeous, I wanted to kill myself. Why wouldn’t Tyson want her over me? She looked like a superstar already. She noticed me looking and smiled.
I looked away, trying to pack quicker.
“Want help Roxanne?” Daxon questioned.
“Yeah, let’s go to the room,”
I was relieved when Tyson and Dominique didn’t follow us.
“Are you a compulsive liar?” I questioned.
“No, it’s just…this is mortifying and I don’t like how he’s talking to you.” Daxon responded.
“That’s nice. You don’t have to let me stay with you though.”
“Come on, Roxanne. My mansion is huge. You can have a whole wing to yourself. I still kind of owe you for hitting you with my car. And I’ll take you to get your new phone tomorrow.”
“Um…fine.”
We packed as quickly as we could. I was grateful I didn’t have much stuff.
“That guy is an asshole, you know?”
“It’s the first day of shooting, he’s just nervous.” I murmured. “He’s not usually like that.”
“Well he sure makes a shitty first impression .” Daxon commented.
“We’re almost out of here,” I assured him.
“Is this really all the stuff you have?”
“Yes, not everyone is a billionaire, Daxon!”
I didn’t know why I was being so aggressive with him. I think I was just embarrassed for how all of this was unfolding and even though he was technically a stranger, I still didn’t want him to see me like this.
Finally we finished up and walked back out into the living room. “Well, that’s everything.” I announced.
I tossed the key to Dominique who caught it. “Thanks hun,”
God I hated her.
“Well, we had our fun, Rox.” Tyson sighed. “Sorry it ended this way. If I can, I’ll see if you can come to the premiere. Thank you for helping me on my path to greatness.”
“Yeah, okay.”
I didn’t know why a part of me hoped that he would change his mind. That he would see me packing my things and suddenly realize this was a mistake. It was like he had never even cared about me.
“If there’s even a premiere, right?” Daxon questioned. “It has to get picked up by a studio.”
“And it will be, because it’s brilliant and unique.” Tyson said firmly.
“Yeah, we’ll see. Interesting meeting you. Come on Roxanne.”
I followed Daxon out of the apartment and into the next chapter of my life.
--
Daxon’s house was massive! It looked like at least twenty people could live there! There was no way I should be anywhere near a place like this!
“You live here alone?” I questioned.
“Yeah, of course,” He shrugged. “There’s no one else to live with.”
We entered the house and it looked almost like a museum. Like I shouldn't touch a single thing in here.
“Christoph!” Daxon called. “I’m home!”
“Who is that?” I asked.
“My butler and most trusted friend.”
“Master Daxon, hello.” A man appeared in front of us.
He looked younger than I thought he would, but of course, very mature and refined. His blonde hair was neatly gelled back and he had a warm smile. His dark eyes were kind of beady, but still very kind.
“Oh and who do we have here?”
“I’m Roxanne,” I smiled. “Daxon was kind enough to let me stay here for the night.”
“I notice he extends that kind gesture to many young women. Can I take your bags?”
“Please,”
“Um, take them to the room next to mine, please, Christoph. Thanks!” Daxon called. “Um, wanna order some pizza? I have beer.”
“Oh, why not?”
Although I thought Daxon was kind of grimy when it came to women, being around him was kind of nice. He was an easy going guy and pretty funny. I guess I was starting to see why women melted for him the way they did.
“You know something, Roxanne, this is the first night in a very long time that I’m not with a woman who wants to tear my clothes off,” He laughed.
“Who says I don’t want that?” I teased.
“I thought I was a disgusting womanizer?”
“Oh you are. I’m just messing with you.”
“Tease,” Daxon shook his head. “You sexy tease.”
“Sexy?” I laughed.
“Don’t act like you don’t know it,” He leaned towards me. “You exude this insane sexiness. It’s almost alarming.”
“Yeah, you’re interested now but if I gave it up, you’d be kicking me out tomorrow morning just like every other girl.”
“Let’s test that theory,” Daxon put his hand on the back of my neck to kiss me, but I jerked away. “f**k, sorry.”
“No, no. It’s just that I had a break up today and my life is falling apart.”
“Yeah, of course, I’m sorry Roxanne. I didn’t invite you over to seduce you I swear!”
“I know. And really if today wasn’t as crazy, I definitely would take you up on this, you’re so hot!” I laughed. “But I’m kind of drunk-”
“And I wouldn’t want to do anything to take advantage of you,” Daxon nodded.
“And I’m sure you wouldn’t. Life is just…so complicated right? I mean you have money and I need money and I’m Roxanne and you need one. Ironic right?”
Daxon perked up. “Roxanne, I have to ask you something very important.”
“Okay…” I said slowly.
“Will you marry me?”
