Two Proposals

Daxon I didn’t know what was going on with me today. I’d lied several times and now I was asking a woman I barely knew to marry me. Desperation was extremely dangerous. “Excuse me?” Roxanne asked. “Will you marry me?” I repeated. “You don’t even know my last name!” “What is it?” “Levy,” She responded. “And your middle name?” “Um…Blossom.” “Seriously?” I asked. “Yes!” Roxanne snapped. "It's a family name!" “Oh okay. Well, mine is Emerson. Anyways…Roxanne Blossom Levy…will you marry me?” “Daxon, what is wrong with you?!” “Just hear me out,” I said slowly. “I need you, Roxanne. I am going to lose everything that matters to me if I don’t show up to dinner tomorrow with a woman named Roxanne willing to marry me. It doesn’t have to be a real marriage, and we don’t have to stay married that long, maybe three years and then we get a divorce or whatever.” Roxanne seemed to be thinking it over. “Okay, but….what do I get out of this? I mean I can’t just marry you because my name happens to be Roxanne.” “Is a sexy rich husband not enough?” She raised her eyebrows. “What do you want?” “I want to be a star, to be a real actress. You have the film company. Just get me auditions, you don’t have to rig them or anything, just get me in the door. Is that possible?” I grinned. “Of course it is, Roxanne. I mean I’m kind of high profile and gossip magazines are going to eat the whole ‘hot playboy CEO finally being tamed’ storyline up. There will be interviews and photoshoots. You can really become a star, Roxanne.” “You promise?” She whispered. I was sure she was thinking about Tyson and all that he had promised her that had been snatched away today. “I swear, Roxanne. I will make your dreams come true and you will keep mine intact. We really can help each other.” I said firmly. She bit her lip. “So like what are the rules to being married? Like how much of a married couple are we?” “The thing is, we can never risk people finding out this is basically a contract marriage. If we do you’ll be blackballed and I’ll lose my company…so we can’t really see other people or anything like that. It’s too risky.” “Can you live with not getting laid for three years?” She asked. “I’ll manage and who knows, maybe we can still enjoy the physical parts of a marriage without all the romantic s**t. Anything is possible right?” “I mean three years is a long time to go without sex.” “And it’ll never have to mean anything.” “Well, what if we fall in love with someone else? What then?” Roxanne questioned. “I’m not falling in love with anyone, but I guess just hope they’ll wait for you.” I shrugged. “Like I said, everyone has to think this is real.” “See there’s a problem with that,” “And that is?” “Everyone who knows me knows that I’ve been with Tyson for a year and a half. They’re not gonna buy that I got engaged immediately, especially my friends.” I racked my brain. “So we don’t announce it to anyone but my family for a few months. We’ll make some public appearances, I’ll come to meet your friends and then in a few months we can announce that we’re getting married and while it will seem quick, it will be reasonable.” I explained. “So I have to lie to everyone I know and love?” Roxanne sighed. “There’s always a price for fame, sweetheart.” “Just three years?” “I think that’s enough to get my family off my back and it’s definitely enough time to launch your career.” “And I’ll live here?” I nodded. “And like will I have access to the Vaughn money?” “Roxanne, I will give you anything you want while we’re married, seriously. And when we divorce, you’ll get ten million dollars.” “Holy s**t!” “Your future husband is very generous. So are you in?” I asked eagerly. “Call me future Mrs. Vaughn.” -- When I woke up the next morning, I was shocked to see that I was still in the living room, but I was alone. “Roxanne?” I called. “Where are you?” I received no response. Oh s**t. Did she bail on me? She probably thought I was insane proposing like that and then asking her to dedicate three years of her life to a charade. I had scared her away. I sighed and slumped up the stairs, feeling defeated. I couldn’t believe I actually thought Roxanne would make this deal with me for real. I was an i***t. Halfway up the stairs, I heard singing. A woman’s voice. I hurried up the rest of the way, following the voice. Relief set in when I realized it was Roxanne. She was still here. Her door was cracked open a little bit. I pushed it open and realized the shower was running. Her voice was stunning! It was like she was a siren seducing me with her gorgeous voice. I closed my eyes and let the melodic sound fill my ears. I could listen to her all day. The singing got closer, quickly followed by a shriek. I opened my eyes to Roxanne in nothing but a towel. Roxanne “Seriously, what is wrong with you?” I demanded, tightening my grip on my towel. “Sorry, your voice…it’s beautiful, I wasn’t thinking.” Daxon stammered. “I’ll uh let you get dressed. I’m gonna shower and then we can go shopping?” “Yeah, thanks. Um, can I use your phone again? Just want to check in with my friends.” “Sure. A phone for you is first on the agenda.” He tossed me his phone before exiting. I got dressed and ready and then sat on the bed. Every day I was thankful I memorized Beatrix’s number. “Girl, where are you?” She demanded. “Oh you wouldn’t believe me if I told you!” I laughed. “I’m in a f*****g mansion right now Bea.” “Yeah right! Which motel are you at? We’ll come get you.” “I’m at a man’s house,” “Already?” Remy’s voice asked. “You literally just broke up with Tyson!” “Life comes at you fast!” I exclaimed. “Just wait until you meet this guy.” “Come meet us for coffee and tell us about him,” Beatrix urged. “Would love to, but can’t. I’m booked the whole day.” “Have you actually been kidnapped?” Remy questioned. “Blink twice for yes!” “We can’t see her you i***t! Roxanne, are you okay?” “I’m good, I swear.” I assured them. I really wanted to tell them about my deal with Daxon, but I knew I couldn’t. “Roxanne?” Daxon’s head poked in the room. “We should get going. Sapphire Mall sound good?” “It’s my favorite!” I smiled. “I gotta go guys, call you later.” “Wait Rox-” I hung up the phone before anything more could be said. -- Shopping with money was incredibly different from shopping with little money. Daxon didn’t care about the price of anything. He didn’t flinch when my new phone cost seven hundred dollars. When we bought clothes, he didn’t even look at the price tags, he just told me to pick whatever I liked. I think I could get used to this! After clothes we went to the jewelry store. “Pick whatever ring you want, Roxanne. Don’t worry about the price,” Daxon grinned. He was like a sexy angel in a suit. “Hi, how can I help you?” The saleswoman asked, looking Daxon up and down. “Shopping for your mother?” Oh great, I get to witness Daxon shamelessly flirt with yet another woman. “Actually, it’s for this gorgeous woman. Asked her to marry me last night and she said yes.” Daxon flashed her a smile. “She gets to have whatever she wants.” “Oh…lucky girl.” She sounded disappointed. “I am, aren’t I?” I smiled. “I’ll let you know what I want to try on.” I walked around the entire store and tried on at least twenty rings. Finally I picked the perfect one! It had a silver platinum ring, pear shaped diamond and nine point seven carats. It was like a small ice rink for a rodent. It felt kind of heavy on my hand, but I adored it. “This is the one,” I said giddily. “Okay that one is nine hundred ninety-eight thousand dollars plus tax would put it at one million eighty thousand, three hundred and thirty five dollars.” She said almost haughtily. My knees went weak for a moment, but Daxon caught me. “Sounds perfect,” He laughed, handing her his card. “Daxon, that’s over a million dollars!” I hissed. “Did you see me flinch?” “I’m starting to feel like I’m taking advantage of you,” “You’re not. Do you know how many billions I’m going to make because I keep my job? Believe me, Rox, this is nothing. Just enjoy it for what it is.” Daxon squeezed my shoulder. “You can pay me back when you’re a household name.” “Fine,” I sighed. Daxon picked up the ring and got down on one knee. “Let’s do this the right way huh? Roxanne Blossom Levy…will you marry me?” “I will Daxon Emerson Vaughn.” I giggled as he slid the ring on my finger. “Roxanne?!” I turned and my stomach dropped. There was Beatrix and Remy standing in the entrance of the store. Well s**t.
