Chapter 15: LaurenBuzz…buzz…buzz…
The plane made elaborate loops over the crowd and everyone cheered, but Lauren felt tense. It seemed to be coming closer and closer, the engine noise getting louder and louder, drowning out the voices of the people around her. Her heart pounded.
Buzz…buzz…bang! Lauren jumped in alarm.
“Welcome back to the land of the livin’, hon.” Victoria’s voice broke through Lauren’s stupor.
“Oh, my God, what just happened?”
Victoria looked about for a nearby trash can and tossed in a folded up newspaper she’d been holding. “Well, honey, you were out cold till I smacked the fly that almost landed in your coffee. Thought I’d better dispense with the little varmint before he decided to check out your open mouth.”
