The morning after yesterday's event was just as normal as the rest. Seren got ready for work, her business casual outfit routine was nothing out of the ordinary. Flashes of her and Malrick's conversation last night flooded her mind again. Perhaps she had overreacted and assumed the worst from him? he didn't touch her, harm her... only acted strange, but can acting strange just mean that he lacks social cues and social interactions?
Seren looked down at her finger, the bandage from last night was still there... Seren never really wore skirts or anything which showed her skin like Delancey wore. Ever since school she'd never really been the one to flatter anybody. Which was why people thought it was weird for Delancey to be friends with a person like me. Seren sighed looking at her reflection in the mirror. Her acne was out of control, her eyesight was terrible... she knew, she just refused to tarnish her image more by wearing glasses. Reading glasses were fine for the moment when she really needed to use them.
With another sigh, Seren paid a cab to drive her to work. The building was huge, the tower loomed over her as she stood at the front looking up at it. Glass windows everywhere...
Seren walked inside, "Oh, hey!" A high-pitched noise sliced through the air as she was entering the elevator. There she was... Delancey, forcing herself into an elevator that was trying to close. "Glad to see you here Seren. Don't forget our little lunch date together this afternoon." Delancey was holding a tray of coffee. Today she wore a white blouse with a light pink office skirt and low kitten heels. Delancey's outfit choice always seemed childish to Seren, just enough that Delancey couldn't get in trouble for her outfit's.
"Good morning... " Seren yawned slowly, avoiding eye contact with her.
"Here!" Delancey handed Seren one of the fresh coffee's that were on the tray. Delancey offered a small smile before getting off the elevator to their floor.
Seren looked down at the coffee. She didn't even drink black coffee... Seren stepped off the elevator, now entering their workspace. Malrick was already at his office... Seren stopped short of her desk... There was Chinese food still in their boxes, sitting neatly on her desk. She glanced around the office... nobody looked like they were waiting for her to notice the food. She looked down at the coffee still in her hands then glanced at Malrick's office. With a sigh she walked over to his office, placing the coffee straight on his desk. Malrick glanced at the coffee then glanced up at her from his chair. A small smirk formed on the corner of his lips. "For me?" he asked, his fingers were still typing on his computer.
"Did you see who left Chinese food on my desk?" she asked nodding her head to confirm his answer.
"I did. That's what friends do."
Seren sighed, "You can't be doing that... I'm engaged remember? what if Rowan takes this the wrong way."
"I don't think that matters... look."
Seren turned around to scan the far side of the floor. Delancey and Rowan were laughing. Delancey's playful touches towards Rowan... made her stomach churn. "Look, I'll talk to him. It's not a big deal." Seren walked off back to her desk, and she wasn't about to waste good food.
"Hey!" that same high-pitched tone echoed in Seren's ear.
She turned slightly to see Delancey smiling with her hands behind her back. "Hey, Delancey..."
"Are you coming to the party?" Delancey asked all giddy.
"What?"
"The corporate party to celebrate the new launch. Our entire floor is invited." Delancey leaned in closer.
"Probably not, I had an accident with my car, and I need to get my car back." Seren begun typing on her keyboard.
"What happened with your car?"
"Three of my tires had gotten flat. I honestly just need to figure it out." Seren was getting irritated.
"Is it alright if I go to the party with Rowan? as friends of course... I know you two are engaged." Delancey asked that question way to happily.
With a final sigh, "Yes, go ahead."
"Yes! Yippy. Best friend ever!" Delancey patted her shoulder and walked off. Seren didn't care anymore. Even if Seren said no, Delancy would find a way to make her say yes... or worse, do it anyway without her knowing.
