Chapter Three

609 Words
Present day... Sam Kennedy stepped off the elevator and headed for his office on the twenty-fifth floor of the Kennedy's Business and Associates building. He stopped by his secretary's desk to pick up his mail and notices. As always Lily gave him one of her motherly smiles as she'd been doing since she had started working for him five years ago. No matter how he tried to tell her, she always treated him like he was one of her fosters. Always trying to mother him. He smiled back at her and continued to his desk. After turning on his computer he opened his briefcase. However, just as he sat down the desk phone rang. "Lily," Sam answered. "Sir, you have a call from Mr. James on line two," she responded. "James," Sam said as he switched the lines. " How are this morning?" "Well I need your help with something that's been causing a problem for me," Mr. James replied. "I'll put in a little extra if you can get it done yesterday." "I have a few things I need to complete but I can be there as early as possible. Say about 7 in the morning." Sam was running late. Late was not something he ever did. Nor was he comfortable with it. The fact that his flight hadn't landed until after midnight wasn't an excuse he was comfortable using either. In his experience being late was a recipe for a bad day. Plus he liked to start his day before everyone else. Damn the rental car company, he thought. If they hadn't mixed up his application he wouldn't have had a spend a hour the night before sorting it out. He could have just left it as is and taken a taxi, but he liked personal mobility. Being able to get around without constrictions was something he valued. Sam got out of the car and headed inside the building that housed CMJ Enterprise. He stopped to collect his key card from the receptionist and headed straight to the elevator that would take him to the 20th floor. He swiped the card effectively closing the doors and sending the elevator up. As soon as he stepped off the elevator Mr. James was there to greet him. "Sam," Mr. James greeted. "James," Sam responded as he shook the man's hand. "So good to have you back here, Sam," Mr. James said. "Can't wait to have you fix this problem for me." "Why don't you explain to me what's the problem now? What have you broken?" Sam had a smile on his face as he said. As did Mr. James. They both knew Sam was right. He tended to find himself in some type of technical glitches sometimes. He was a great businessman but he wasnt the greatest with technology. In those cases he always needed Sam. Sam followed Mr. James to his office, listening as he described what he thought was wrong with his computer system. As they passed the front office where the secretary should be, Sam thought he saw someone he recognized but wasn't sure. He shook his head a continued on. He would check it later,he thought to himself. Meanwhile Jessica was sitting in her office catching up on correspondence for her boss. She had a letter to type up for him but wanted to get the small things squared away first. As she looked up, she felt herself drift back to three years and one drunken night before.  Is that... Could it really be? No way could it be. We're just some of the thoughts running through her mind. She had no idea the shocking life changes she was about to receive.
