the alpha king
"I beg your finest pardon?"
"Alex is right, brother. You cannot reject her." Jared walked into the room, dark hair damp and his amber eyes focused on me. He bowed. "Welcome back, my king."
"What do you mean I can't reject her?"
He straightened himself amd glanced over at the woman briefly. "If you reject her, you are signing up for your curse returning. And if that happens, your beast form will take control again."
"And how do you know this?"
"It's been years, how can I not know the details?"
"The curse is broken now. I am back to normal. You both are paranoid for nothing."
"Not at all." Alex said and walked up to Jared's side. They both watched me, as of expecting me to lash out at any moment. True I couldn't deny the irritation that simmered under my skin, but I was more interested in hearing why on earth they thought I couldn't reject this woman.
"The curse breaking isn't done yet, matter of fact, we have barely scratched the surface of breaking the curse." Alex said, making wide swinging motions with his arms.
"Plus you two are fated mates," Jared added. "Your beast marked her, and as we all know, it hasn't happened in the past."
I grit my teeth. "Mate? You have lost your minds. Someone like her can never be my mate, a nobody from a no name pack?! Impossible. My beast was being stupid, maybe a little drunk. It means nothing."
"That makes two of us! Someone like you can't be my fated mate either! And you marked me without my permission! Do you have any idea how that feels?! "
Dear heavens. She's got quite the mouth on her.
I shot her a look. She folded into herself in a bid to make herself as small as possible. Yet her eyes met mine defiantly. She ducked her head and picked at the blanket covering her body.
"You. You seem to forget that you are speaking to the alpha king." I snapped, my voice sharp.
She flinched, her shoulders drawn up to her ears. She mumbled something I didn't hear, but the furrow in her brows told me it was nothing good.
Aizer clawed at my chest, growling and purring her name. Her scent filled the air making the air in my lungs feel heavy like wet wool. A vein throbbed in my forehead at his antics.
Mine. Mine. Mine.
Aizer keeps chanting the word in my head. He has lost his mind too
I drew in a deep breath and turned away from her. The last thing I wanted was to do something fueled by Aizer's craze for her.
Jared and Alex stared at me. If they noticed her flare up, none of them mentioned it.
"About the rejection, why don't you wait till tomorrow?" Jared offered with a half smile. "Seeing as we all are exhausted and—"
"No."
His face fell like I had punched him in the gut. "But brother, think about your curse. If you break the bond, it could return. No scratch that, it will return.'"
"Are you implying I have no control over my beast?"
"That's not..."
"The curse isn't going to return. No matter what I am rejecting her." Neither of them looked convinced. "I have control over Aizer now. It's fine."
They exchanged worried glances. "We're thinking a our the future." Alex said, a hint of defeat in his tone.
"Alex is right. Just reconsider."
I was done listening to their protests. I faced the woman. "You, come over here."
She looked up at me and huffed. "I have a name, alpha."
It would be a cold day in hell before I use her name, whatever it is. "I don't care. Get over here, now."
"You're doing it?" She asked. Her eyes widened and...was that a sparkle in her eyes?
"What do you think?"
She jumped to her feet, securing the blanket over her form tightly. She walked over to me and stood a few feet away. She has a bright smile on her face, and a dimple in her left cheek.
"I'm ready. Reject me now "
Something about her happiness made me sneer. Where did Alex get her from? What kind of woman is excited to be rejected by the alpha king? Any woman in her right mind would be on her knees right now, begging with teary eyes to be spared.
But she is f*****g smiling at me. Like a kid given a giant piece of candy.
However, this is good. That way once this is over I'll forget about her and so will she. I have no need for her. I already have a woman, handpicked by me. She's going to be my wife, my luna. That was before this curse took root. Everything was fine and going according to plan. This mate bond with this woman means nothing. It's a mistake.
"Well?" She asked, unable to keep still. She's practically vibrating with excitement. And she has a beautiful smile.
What the f**k am I thinking about?
"As the alpha king, I hereby acknowledge and reject the mate bond between I and..." I tilted my head to the side. "Your name?"
"Kiara." She said. Eagerly. "Go on."
I shot her a cold glare. She pressed her lips into a white line. "Sorry, alpha." She said without a single apologetic note in her voice.
"I reject you, Kiara, as my fated mate." I finished. Aizer gave a terrifying howl, so loud it caused a sharp pain to explode in my head.
"I accept your rejection." She said immediately.
Time slowed.
The bond snapped, like a coil drawn taunt. The pain nestled in my chest, a cold claw around my heart. Aizer went silent, oddly still. My chest hollowed out like all my organs had been sucked out with a vacuum.
Kiara stared at me. her smile dropped and a dark shadow crossed her eyes. She opened her mouth then closed it.
I've never broken a mate bond before. It's an absolutely shitty feeling.
Alex walked up to her and gently grabbed her arm. without another word, she turned and walked away. Her scent lingered in the air long after she was gone from sight.
I touched my chest. My skin felt hot and sensitive to the touch. Aizer still hasn't said anything to me.
