CHAPTER SIX

“Are you now okay?” Avery asked worriedly to Gene.

They are now, inside the island clinic after Gene’s allergy attacked, and now the redness on Gene’s skin is now slowly fading. Thank goodness that Gene’s wrist watch has a connection to the main building so they were able to call for help, that immediately response to them, and took Gene to the clinic not far from the cottages.

“I’m now okay.” Gene replied in a groggy voice due to the itchiness in her throat.

“I’m sorry.” She apologetically said while her head is bowed from too much guilt.

She felt that what happened is her fault, for cooking Gene without even asking if she is allergic to  a seafood.

“Chin up! You don’t need to apologize, it’s not your fault.” Gene said.

But even so, she can’t still bare to raise her chin up and remain looking at the floor, until Gene gently raise her chin using her finger, and when their gaze met, Gene smile at her. A smile that is telling her that it is not really her fault.

Gene was about to open her mouth to say something to Avery when the door of the clinic open harshly that made her halt from she was about to say, as their attention was caught by the lady with a fuming mad face.

“W-What can I do for you Miss?” The clinic attendant asked still startled by the lady’s entrance.

But, the attendant got only ignored the attendant when the lady saw her and hurriedly went closer to their direction, like a fuming bull, who don’t notice anyone but her.

“What the hell Gene! What happened?!” The lady asked, without even noticing that there is someone with them in that area, which is Avery who looked surprise by the lady’s attitude.

Gene can’t help but to her eyes for a second time out of distaste of the lady’s presence, but even so, she think of Avery’s sake so she made her expression back to normal, but she can’t to still sound cold to the lady infront of them.

“I’m okay, stop nagging and just go, I’ll see you later.” She replied in a cold tone.

“No! I will stay here!” The lady replied with finality and turn her gaze to the side and saw Avery gawking at them, that made the lady’s brows raise.

“Who are yo—“  The lady’s question to Avery was immediately cut when Gene spoke again in a annoyed tone this time, but trying to stop it from busting out.

“Cut it out, Raine! Can you please just go, or I’ll tell my men to kick you out of this island in an instant.” Gene said, with a dim face out of annoyance.

The lady named Raine, seems got rattle seeing Gene’s expression and left, but before she left, she throw one daggering glance to Avery and exited, making Avery brows rose this time.

“What’s wrong with her?” She can’t help to murmur as she followed Raine, from where she exited.

“Sorry for that,” Gene spoke after that made Avery’s attention turn to Gene, “Raine is just really like that, but she will not going to harm you.”

Avery can’t help but to chuckle from what Gene said before she replied, “I know.”

She knew in one glance at Raine, because being inlove with photography, she also develop not only how to take a good angle of the places and person she took a picture, but also their expression with the help also of her instinct and intuition.

And Seeing Raine expression fuming expression is also due to her panic and worriedness to Gene, but Gene seemed didn’t notice it because she hated her, so she also didn’t notice the pain in Raine’s expression when she kicked her out.

“And, It’s okay, she seemed worried about you, so I understand and you don’t need to say sorry as well.” She added with a smile.

“It seemed the medicine is working now, the redness is gone and your voice is now less groggy.” She commented as she notice Gene’s skin and voice.

“Yeah, Thank you.” Gene agreed.

Avery, raise her hands and wave it while shaking her head, out of embarrassment as guilt came back to her again.

“No, Don’t thank me, it was my fault that you have taken here.” She said embarrassingly, that made Gene scoff, and shake her head by Avery’s guilt stubbornness.

“Fine, If keep on saying that, then just accompany me on tonight’s dinner and your forgiven.” Gene said with a smile, as she asked to Avery.

She figured that Avery will still hold her guilt if she would not going to do something to amend it, so she thought of something to make her at ease.

Avery nodded in agreement to what Gene said and replied, “okay.”

“It settle then.”  Gene replied with a smile, that Avery responded with smile as well.

But, their dinner arrangement didn’t happen that night, because of something that Gene needs to attend to, according to what the staff had informed her, when she went to the main building that night.

Avery can’t help but to feel somewhat disappointed by it, so instead on eating dinner as her appetite for the dinner instantly disappeared, so she decided to go back to her cottage, without paying attention to the path she’s taking.

She don’t know why she suddenly felt sad, when her dinner with Gene got cancelled, but she can’t help but to sulk. And because she is not paying her attention to where she is going, she didn’t notice the that she arrived at the elevated part of the bamboo mini stairs of the cottages path, and accidentally, got tripped making her whimpered in pain as her knee hit the stair step.

“s**t!” She heard someone cursed behind her.

 She felt a hand held her in her arm, and when her gaze turn around to see who hold her. Her heart started to beat erratically when she Gene, holding her while catching her breath, while still in her business attire even though she already had removed her vest.

“A-Are you okay?” She heard Gene asked her worriedly, while still catching her breath.

But instead of answering, Avery just nodded as her heart still beating erratically, as the pain of her knee suddenly vanish.

Heart what now again? She thought as her gaze is still on Gene.
