“Tell me a joke, I am bored,” Wren said from the backseat. Robin was gripping the steering wheel so hard that her knuckles were white. “Really? You are being kidn*pped and your first instinct is to look for entertainment?” Robin asked and realized just how alike Wren and Wilder were. Wren chuckled and leaned forward to pat Robin on the shoulder. “Relax all we have to do is drive and then get stopped by my brothers.” Robin nodded trying to relax her hold on the steering wheel.
They were driving down the forest roads, soon this road will come to a divide where there will be an exit for the highways. That’s where the fighter would be waiting for Robin rushing to take her side and at the same time, Axel and Wilder come driving with 2 cars full of fighters and block Robin’s way. She would have to retreat with her fighters and Wren will stay with her family.
Wren’s phone rang, it was one of the check-up calls they were scheduled to have every 10 minutes. “We are in position, waiting for you.” Robin nodded at Wren through her rear-view mirror and pressed on the gas stronger. “On our way, we have increased our speed.” Wren huffed and leaned back on her seat. “Being the damsel in distress isn’t how I imagined my week would go.” Robin snorted, “Being involved in a double agent bullshit isn’t my ideal definition of a week.” Wren chuckled as well, but her thought went back to Oak Tails and Lucien. Specifically, how Robin was taken advantage of by a man that had an ancient sort of power.
It felt wrong, if anything Robin should have been the only one of them immune to being manipulated. She was the one that went against a Goddess after all, how could she get tricked by a man? But as Wren remembered how excited Robin looked at the prospect of researching Oak Tails, it seemed more plausible. She got there with the lore of research and was invited to build the pack again, be a part of its history, her home. There was no way she would refuse it. But then, what was she doing now? Agreeing to destroy the pack over again?
“Robin,” Wren said and Robin shot her a glance from the mirror again, “I hope you know that River Banes is your home as much as Oak Tails was. I love you, and I will always have your back, alright?” she put her hand on Robin’s shoulder and saw a small smile spread on her face. “Thanks,” Robin whispered with a nod. “The position you are in right now is s**t and I don’t want to add to it, but I really need you to come back and help me with the museum,” Wren added with a smile, trying to lighten the mood and Robin laughed. “Oh, how I wish to be back to just working in the museum.” Robin hummed and they laughed again.
They quietened down as the highway came to a view, Wren scooted back in her seat and tried to keep out of sight, Robin fixed her face to a serious one and slowed the car down. She put her turn signals on and stopped next to the highway. The Oak Tails fighters were supposed to be there, Axel and Wilder were parked few meters away. Robin left the ignition on as she got out of the car. This would allow Wren to drive away if the situation gets out of hand.
Robin walked towards her pack members and was satisfied with the way they all looked down. No one wished to challenge her now. They bowed as they spotted Robin and walked towards her. “Beta Robin, we are at your command.” Robin nodded. “Great, I was being tailed, we need to keep moving,” Robin said and gestured towards the 2 smallest fighters. “You, follow me to the car. You will sit with the girl and guard her until we reach Alpha’s house.” They nodded and walked with Robin towards her car.
Then, right on time, Axel’s car pulled forward and blocked Robin’s way. Fighters next to Robin growled and took a fight stance. “Give us Wren and there will be no bloodshed,” Axel said as fighters got out of his car and circled the Oak Tailers. Robin growled as well and jumped forward dodging attacks from others but never landing her own punches. “Reach the girl.” She ordered the fighters on her side and they all broke to a splint. As Robin looked at her car she saw Wilder parked next to it, 10 more River banes fighters coming out of his car. Wilder jumped down as well, he was supposed to drive Wren away.
Robin was tackled to the ground by one of River Banes fighters and she groaned. She had to fight her way out with the little damage inflicted as possible. Even though the whole Alpha family was aware of the whole picture, to all the fighters Robin was a plain traitor and kidnapper of Wren. Robin dusted herself off and got up she kept looking around for her fighters to see if they were cornered yet. Some were being pushed towards the highway, others were victorious over some of the River banes fighters. There were few passed out fighters on the ground. None of them was from Oak Tails. Robin growled and walked towards the car, still keeping the act of the kidnaper going. Wilder was coming out of his car and they made eye contact and Wilder increased his speed. Robin wanted to slow down and give him enough time to get away but a fighter from Oak Tails rushed past Robin and extended his nails, aiming towards Wilder.
Robin groaned and rushed towards the car as well. Wilder saw the fighter aiming for him and tried to reach the car in record time. As he was extending his hand towards its door, the fighter attacked him, Wider jumped back which made the fighter growl. Wilder looked around and saw Robin making her way towards them. Seeing the fight scene, Wren decided to take her chances and jumped to the front seat as well. She roared the engine this distracted the fighter and Wilder punched him.
“Get the girl, you i***t,” Robin growled at the fighter who was about to beat the s**t out of Wilder. The fighter growled and looked at Robin “What about him?” Robin shook her head. “Our target is the girl, leave him alone.” Robin tried to keep her tone without any emotion or anger towards the fighter. In reality, she wanted to kick the s**t out of him. Wren circled the field with the car a few times, some of the fighters tried to hurl a stone and Robin hissed. That’s my car.
Robin looked around once more and saw the majority of Oak Tails fighters being cornered. “Retreat, Retreat!” She yelled and knocked out one of the River Banes fighters and helped one of Oak Tailers to get up and run back.
They were nearly on the highway, out of the forest as soon as this happened, Axel and his people will stop pursuing them. Then Robin heard the car’s motor sounds and looked at the road. Someone was driving towards them. The cars came to an abrupt stop in front of them and Robin waved the dust away from her face. By the time Robin blinked the dust out of her eyes, more Oak Tails fighters filled the field. She looked around in confusion until she heard another command, this time from a voice much stronger than hers. “Attack! Get me the girl!” Lucien’s voice beamed from behind Robin and his hand landed on her shoulder.
