6 Months Later**
(Crystal)
I feel the wind coursing through my fur; I hear the leaves rusting on the trees, and the water running in the stream.
We should probably get back for dinner, I tell Selena, as I sense that she is having fun and disregarding time. Ugh party pooper, fine 5 more minutes, Selena humphs, I think she wishes she didn’t have a human attached to her. I embrace the cool crisp air on my face, and the fresh scent of pine trees. Selena howls with pleasure as she runs through the brush without a care in the world. We went to a stream to get some water before heading back.
Once shifted back, I headed up to the packing house, feeling famished from the day. I head to my office and do some paperwork before dinner, trying to get some last-minute stuff done.
I heard a knock at the door, stopping me from typing an email as I looked up, “Come in.”
Valentina comes strutting into my office while taking a seat across from me. She, of course, is in tall stilettos and black pants and a suit.
When I left Opal Moon, I didn’t have anywhere to go. I was lost and alone. Valentina found me, or more located me. She is a witch; very powerful, but you wouldn’t think that when talking to her, she took me in. I remember the day she found me. I was sitting in a cafe alone drinking a coffee when she approached me. She told me of her pack and how she is trying to give others a second chance, that there was another option.
It turned out she had a pack of her own. A lot of them were run-away omegas whom she took in before they became feral. When a wolf is without a pack too long, they have the chance of losing control of the inner wolf, making them rogue and feral. Until Valentina, there was no hope for rogues, but with what she had done there was more hope than ever.
When I got into the pack, I was scared and timid. Valentina trained me and helped me find myself. Soon after, she made me her right-hand woman, since she’s a witch. She needed a wolf to lead the pack and keep them safe. She calls me her Co-Alpha. I laugh every time she says it.
“What do I owe this pleasure?” I asked, closing my laptop, batting my eyelashes at her. She chuckles as I give her a cheeky smile. “I was just checking in to make sure you weren’t up here working yourself to death.” She replies, pulling out a nail file while giving me a playful look, I laugh as I stand up. “No no I was just out for a run, and wanted to get some stuff done before dinner and call it a night.”
“Also, babes, I need to tell you something before you leave.” Valentina stops me before I got to the door. I gulp as I turn around. This cannot be good, the last time I got news, I was being rejected by my former Alpha.
Valentina swerves around to face me; my wolf is pacing, as she can sense her energy is tense. “Over the last few months our numbers have grown, and that means we are now being looked at as a legitimate pack.” As she speaks I look at her more and more confused, I wish I could predict where this conversation was going, and I am feeling my heart beat rise.
“Now, as we discussed, you are considered the Alpha of Crescent dawn pack, but also you have to understand we are a legitimate pack now, not just a refuge. Sooner or later, we are going to experience threats. As you know, rogues are always searching for their next easy score, our warriors are as good as they can be…. Crystal, we need allies, we are finally being recognized as a real pack by the councils. If we don’t gather allies, we won’t be taken seriously by neighboring packs. Crystal, Opal Moon pack wants a meeting with us, they want to offer a possible alliance.” I gasp as I almost fall backwards, I feel my chest getting tighter, why can’t I breathe? I feel my eyes build with tears as I feel my mind go blank. I start relaying everything in my head, the night of my rejection, the night I left. I forgot that Valentina was there for a minute. I blinked and saw her staring at me with sorrow plastered on her face. I have started a new life here, and I remember that as I have calmed myself down.
Why would we ever consider this? Selena lets out a loud growl that is heard by Valentina, who is unphased. I looked at her with a flushed face. Why is this happening, Moon Goddess? I did the best I could on my own. I helped start a pack, and built this safe haven from the ground up. I look at Valentina whose face has fallen, and I can’t muster up the courage to speak. “I am telling you this as I have no other option, I am a witch and cannot do this without representation. I will not be taken seriously.” She says not making eye contact with me. I cannot imagine what she must be feeling asking me this.
“When asked if we should leave?” I asked, while putting a hand on her shoulder. “Um, we asked to leave as soon as tomorrow, and probably end up staying the weekend.” I received a puzzled look as she spoke. I know she was expecting me to yell at her and be unable to calm down. “Look Valentina, when I agreed to be Co-Alpha that meant pledging my allegiance to a new family, and this pack needs help, I am not going to turn my back on them based on my past.” I lean in and give her a hug, she cries as she hugs me back, I hear her quiet sobs as we continue in silence.
I mindlink Cam my Beta and Zane my gamma, to meet me in my office. Cam walks in with his bleach blonde spiky hair, leather jacket and skinny jeans. Zane with his brown shaggy hair and tan skin with his gold chain, and skinny jeans. They are both the same person with different colored hair, sharing their dumb humor no one gets except them.
“What’s up Crystal, are you looking to get creamed again tonight in beer pong!” Cam yells as Zane fist bumps him. My Beta and Gamma have an unusual relationship with me, more friendly than business. “Oh no, however, I think tonight may be my night.” I said, giving them each an eyebrow, to which I only received more laughter. I clear my throat as I sit down, they sense my mood and both stop laughing while putting their knuckles on the glass table. “Now both of you are aware of my past, and as unpleasant as this is to say, we are going to Opal Moon tomorrow. Valentina isn’t allowed to go alone as she’s a witch, neither of you have to come. This is going to be a simple meeting, but it is up to you both.” I looked at them with pleading eyes. I want to cry but I know I can’t do that.
“Crystal, I speak for both of us when I say, there is no way in hell we’d let y’all go alone.” Zane says with a soft smile, to which Cam gives a little howl. “Now that the serious business is out of the way, can we go eat!” Cam says in an exciting tone, I look at them with gleaming eyes. These boys are really more than I could ask for, so gentle and sweet, yet fierce and bold.
