EPISODE 4: The Door Between Us
The handle twisted.
Cameron moved in a heartbeat, slipping into the shadowed corner behind the wardrobe, silent as a secret.
The door opened and Liam stepped in, holding two glasses of water. “Here,” he said, offering one.
I prayed he couldn’t hear the way my heart was slamming against my ribs.
“You okay?” Liam asked, brow furrowing as he set the glass on the nightstand. “You look pale.”
“I’m fine,” I lied. “Just tired.”
He gave me a soft smile, the kind that had made me say yes to him in the first place. “We can talk wedding stuff tomorrow. Mom will be thrilled.”
I nodded, trying not to glance toward the corner where Cameron stood, close enough that I could feel his presence like heat on my skin.
Liam leaned down and kissed my forehead. “Back in a sec—need to grab my charger from the car.”
As soon as the door clicked shut again, Cameron stepped out. His jaw was tight.
“You’re marrying him?” His voice was sharp now, stripped of softness.
“Yes,” I said, my voice barely audible.
“Why?”
“Because he loves me,” I snapped, even though the words burned in my throat.
His eyes darkened. “I loved you first.”
“Love wasn’t enough,” I shot back, even though part of me wanted to take it back immediately.
He stepped closer, and I felt my resolve slipping. “I made mistakes,” he said. “But I’m here now. And I’m not letting you walk down that aisle without knowing exactly what you’re giving up.”
I opened my mouth to tell him to leave—
But his hand came up, brushing my cheek, and my body betrayed me by leaning into the touch.
“Tell me you don’t want me,” Cameron whispered, “and I’ll go.”
I should’ve said it.
I should’ve pushed him away.
Instead, the sound of Liam’s footsteps in the hall snapped us both back to reality.
Cameron’s lips curved into something between a smirk and a promise.
“This isn’t over,” he murmured, slipping out the door just as Liam walked in.
Liam smiled at me like nothing had happened.
But I could still feel Cameron’s touch burning on my skin.
And I knew—
It was only a matter of time before everything blew apart.
