The alpha and his son, and Owen were with several warriors on the east border of their pack, waiting. It didn’t take long before the fight began. At first, there were just a few rogues, their fur all matted and filthy. The warriors took them down easily enough.
“Keep your guard up!” Alpha Jonas said to his warriors in the link. A howl rang out in the trees beyond their border, then another, and another. Soon, the night air was filled with howls, at least a dozen rogues. All at once, the howling stopped, and an eerie silence was all that was left. The thundering of paws echoed in the night air, headed straight towards the pack borders. There was a large rogue leading the others, and a man was sitting on his back. Once they were just at the edge of the border, the man motioned for the rogues to stop. He slid of the wolf’s back and took a few steps.
“I came searching for someone. My father is looking for an heir to his pack.” The man sneered to the guards.
“Why doesn’t he just name you the Alpha?” Owen asked, taking a step forward.
“That’s the issue. He is no Alpha. It’s nothing but a ragtag bunch of weaklings. I voiced this opinion, and I was denied the position.” He said with a glare. Owen started to move forward, but Jonas stopped him.
“Who, may I ask, do you seek?” Jonas asked.
“Didn’t get a name, or a s*x. I just know they’re supposed to be a strong Alpha wolf.” The man shrugged.
“Why do you need so many rogues just to find one wolf?” Joshua asked. The man smirked and said,
“For things like this where people ask too many questions.” He snapped his fingers and the rogues immediately leapt into action. After only a few moments, the warriors on the west border linked Jonas and said,
“Alpha! Rogues on the west border! At least a dozen!” Jonas cursed internally and reported the same on the east border. He received two other links from the north and south borders, both reporting at least a dozen rogues. All he could do was to tell them to keep fighting and protect the pack.
How does one man get so many rogues together? Unless they made their own pack? Jonas thought to himself as he ripped the throat out of the rogue he was fighting. Just as he threw that body to the ground, two more jumped him at the same time. He dodged one, but the other wrapped its jaws around one of his back legs and bit down hard. Jonas roared in pain as his leg broke and he stumbled. All of his warriors shifted to their wolves as soon as the rogues crossed the border. Already, he felt the deaths of at least twenty. He saw maybe seven dead rogues in his area, and twice as many still fighting. The two rogues attacked him again.
Joshua was in the middle of a group of five rogues, all going at him at once. He had a few broken ribs, a broken jaw, and a punctured lung, but he kept fighting. He had killed three before one of the warriors tried to help him, but one of the rogues ripped his head off in an instant. Blood dripped from Joshua’s mouth as he motioned for the rogues to bring it. Three of them pounced on him together.
Owen was helping a few warriors near the Alpha when he saw Joshua getting jumped by three rogues. He watched in horror as one ripped the boy’s head from his neck while another ripped his arm off. The third one ripped a chunk out of his side. Owen saw red and gave everything he had to killing the rogues in front of him. He and the warriors with him brought down eight enemies, but they were soon overwhelmed as many more joined the fight.
Inside the safehouse, Lovynia, Katrina, and April were huddled together with many other non-combatants. Many were crying, many were sniffling. A few were brave and were doing their best to keep their emotions in control, for the comfort of the others. Many of the elder women and men suddenly cried out in pain. They could feel the deaths of their warrior children. The children began crying in fear. April and Lovynia shared a look, and they went around the room, helping to calm the children. They knew there was nothing they could do to help the elderly, except to offer their condolences. Many more elders cried out, then more, and more until the room was full of cries and screams of pain and anguish. Katrina, Lovynia, and April didn’t know what more they could do. Lovynia suddenly felt a pain in her heart that made her take a sharp breath. She grasped her chest and her eyes filled with tears. She looked at her mother, whose eyes instantly filled with tears.
Outside of the safehouse, the fighting stopped when the last warrior lay dead on the ground. Owen, Jonas, Joshua, Thomas, Cody, Anthony, and Drew all were dead. All eighty-five of the warriors were dead. The man strode toward what he assumed was the safehouse, given the cried he heard coming from it. He pounded on the door and shouted,
“All of you, come out now! I’ll gladly break this door down and send my army of rogues in to drag you all out!” A few moments later, the doors opened, and the wolves inside emerged with tears in their eyes. The man looked over everyone he could see.
“We didn’t get off on the right foot, did we?” he asked, mock sadness in his voice.
“Tell you what. You tell me what I want to know, and I won’t hurt anyone. Do we have a deal?” he asked. One of the elder men stepped forward with a glint in his eye.
“You come here and attack our pack. You kill our sons and daughters. You expect us to just tell you anything?” the old man asked. He spat on the man’s shoe and glared. The man clicked his fingers and a rogue bit the old man’s head off. The others screamed and cried, his wife holding his headless body to her chest.
“Please, no more! What do you want from us?!” she screamed, rocking her mate’s body.
“That’s more like it.” The man sneered.
“I’m looking for someone. I don’t have a name or a s*x. I’m looking for a powerful Alpha wolf. A young one. Might have just recently had their birthday and met their wolf?” he asked, eyeing the survivors. The rogues with him licked their jaws, hoping for even more blood. The survivors all looked at each other. Lovynia, Katrina, and April had a sinking feeling. Lovynia linked her mother and friend.
“I’m not an Alpha wolf. I’m an omega. I can’t be the one he’s looking for. Right?” she asked. Katrina and April just looked at her, confusion on their faces. How could an omega be an Alpha?
“We are sorry, child. It is you the man is searching for. Once we bonded to you, you became an Alpha.” Tabrin said. Lovynia was speechless. She linked what Tabrin said to her friend and her mother. They looked at her from the corners of their eyes, shocked.
The man kept asking questions about the wolf he was looking for, but no one was giving him anything. He had the rogues kill several more people. When he got closer to the back of the group, he noticed Lovynia.
“You there! You have a strong aura about you.” The man shouted, pointing at Lovynia. Everyone froze. Lovynia avoided eye contact. Katrina and April stood in front of her. The man clicked his fingers and sent a rogue after April, who fought it off as best as she could. Lovynia screamed for the rogue to stop, but it was too late. April’s neck had been snapped. Katrina and Lovynia knelt by her body and cried. The man grabbed Lovynia by her arm and dragged her to her feet. Katrina shouted and tried to get to her daughter, but the same rogue ripped her throat out.
“NOOOOO! MOOOOOOM!” Lovynia screamed out. Tears fell like waterfalls from her eyes.
“Little girl, you come with me and no harm will come to anyone else. Agreed?” the man asked, looking at Lovynia with lust in his eyes.
“You’re a pretty little thing, aren’t you? Maybe I’ll have a few rounds with you before my old man can have you.” He chuckled, making Lovynia’s stomach churn.
“I’ll go with you, just please don’t hurt them anymore.” She cried. The man nodded. Lovynia lowered her head and cried more. The man made a motion, and the rogues killed the last of the survivors in the blink of an eye. Lovynia turned just in time to see the last body fall to the ground. She was so overcome by grief that she passed out. Goddess only knew where the man planned to take her, or what he planned to do with her.
