Chapter 3

1986 Words
Lovynia was once again in the fog-covered field. The two wolves were standing right in front of her. She could feel their breath on her. “Lovynia.” She heard voices call her name. She looked around, but only the wolves were with her. “Lovynia.” The voices called again. “Are you talking to me?” she asked the wolves. They nodded their heads. “Who are you?” she asked. “My name is Tabrin. My sister is called Azrin. We are your wolves.” The white wolf raised its head as she heard the voice. Lovynia shook her head. “I did not just hear you correctly. I can only have one wolf. No one can have two wolves. It’s not possible.” She said. Tabrin lowered her head and Lovynia heard a chuckle. “My dear, it is possible. Only once every thousand years are we with a shifter. Not always a werewolf, we have been with a dragon shifter, a bear shifter, and a tiger shifter once. This time, we are to be bonded with you. That is why your headaches started two days before your 18th birthday. Because there are two of us, you needed an extra day to bond with us.” Azrin said. Lovynia stared at the wolves and placed a hand to her head. “This isn’t just another dream, is it? This is really happening. I really have two wolves. How will that work for shifting? I can’t exactly shift into two different wolves at the same time.” Lovynia said. “Not at first. With training, you can shift into us both. One half of you will be my sister, the other half will be me. It will take years of training, though. Only the most serious about the training managed it in the first decade. Some of what you must learn will come to you naturally and you won’t even think about it.” Tabrin explained. “What was up with the warning I got the last time I dreamed? About an attack on the Lightless Moon Pack. I told my Alpha about it, and he raised the patrols on the borders. Are we still going to be attacked? How are we supposed to survive? We only have four hundred members in total. The warriors' numbers are 175.” Tabrin and Azrin looked at each other and sighed. “Unfortunately, yes. There is someone coming who will stop at nothing to get the power he seeks. Though he seeks it for another, this man is cruel without reason. We have seen other packs fall to his hand, though those packs were considerably smaller than the Lightless Moon. We cannot guarantee that this pack will survive. We can guarantee your safety, but aside from that, we are not sure.” Azrin said, lowering her head in apology. “Don’t feel down about it. Our warriors will do their best to fight off the enemy. I don’t suppose you could tell me who the enemy is?” Lovynia asked. Tabrin and Azrin only said one word. Rogues. Tabrin began to fade from sight. “Do not fear, child. She is becoming one with you. You will soon see her in your mind. She is the eldest of the two, so she is bonded first. I will soon fade and become part of you. You will not be able to shift until the moon is at its highest point in the sky on the night of your 18th birthday. You may ask either one of us to shift first. I suggest that Tabrin go first, as I might cause something of a scene.” Azrin said. She began to fade and Lovynia felt Tabrin in her mind completely. “Happy birthday, Lovynia. It’s time to wake up.” Tabrin said. Lovynia sat up straight and found herself in the clinic. A nurse was in the room and had jumped when Lovynia shot up. Lovynia turned her head toward the nurse to apologize, but the nurse bolted from the room, shouting for Dr. Marina. “What the hell was her problem? I was just gonna apologize for scaring the s**t out of her.” Lovynia said to herself. “Look in the mirror, child. You will see.” Tabrin said. Lovynia slowly got up from the bed and went to the bathroom attached to the clinic room. What she saw in the mirror made her breath catch in her throat. Her right eye was the same blue as Tabrin’s, her left eye was the same red as Azrin’s. ”Breathe, child. This will only last for a week, then you will return to normal.” Lovynia returned to the bed as Dr. Marina entered the room. She looked at Lovynia and stopped mid-step. “Good goddess, what happened to your eyes? They weren’t like that last night when I checked for pupil reactions.” She exclaimed. Lovynia asked her to call for the Alpha and her parents. A few minutes later, everyone was either in her room or crowding the door. “This isn’t going to work. Can we take this meeting to a larger room? Everyone needs to hear what I have to say.” Lovynia said. Dr. Marina led everyone to the larger break room in the clinic. No one was using it at that time. Once they were all seated, Lovynia began. “So, to start things off. April, Future Gamma Drew. I’m sorry I missed the party last night. Second, I met my wolves. Before you all bombard me with questions, yes I did say wolves as in plural. I apparently have two wolves. One has bonded with me already. The other will be bonded by the time the moon is at its highest point tonight. As for why my eyes are different colors, I assume it’s to do with my wolves.” She explained. She was suddenly pulled to the back of her mind and Tabrin went to the front. Both of her eyes were blue. “Hello. I am Tabrin. My sister, Azrin, is bonding with Lovynia as we speak. She was correct in her assumption of her eye color. Rest assured, her eyes will be normal in a week’s time.” Tabrin then explained everything she and Azrin said to Lovynia. “Dear goddess. There really is no way to stop this man?” Katrina asked, grasping Owen’s hands. Tears filled her eyes. Owen moved her to his lap and wrapped his arms around her. Alpha Jonas’s eyes clouded over. When they cleared, he let out a heavy sigh. “Our scouts have spotted rogues heading this way, a lot of them. They reported at least two hundred. They’re being led by one man. They made camp nearby and plan to attack at sundown. This gives us a few hours to prepare.” he said. Katrina covered her mouth with her hands and tears filled her eyes. Owen hugged her to him and rubbed his hand up and down her back. Tabrin looked to Alpha Jonas and said, “It begins. Have your warriors stand their ground along the perimeter. I must give control back to Lovynia. She wants to help gather our packmates to the safe house.” Tabrin closed her eyes and opened them again. Lovynia’s eyes had returned to one blue and one red. She looked over to April and Drew. They were holding each other closely, April was sobbing into Drew’s chest. Katrina was sobbing into Owen’s shoulder as he sat with her on his lap. “Dr. Marina, may I be discharged? I feel fine health wise.” Lovynia asked. “Yes, of course. Here are the clothes you had on when you were brought here. Go ahead and get changed. I won’t worry about the paperwork right now. I’ll wait until after everything is settled down. I’ll get the nurses rounded up to help move the patients to the safe house. Please, everyone. Be safe.” Dr. Marina said and left the room. Lovynia took the clothes and went into the attached bathroom to change. “Okay, where do I need to start?” she asked after she left the bathroom. Alpha Jonas asked her to start helping in the clinic. Lovynia nodded and left the room to help Dr. Marina and the nurses. “Dad, there’s something I need to tell you. You as well, Katrina and Owen.” Joshua said. “What is it, son?” Alpha Jonas asked. Joshua took a deep breath and said, “I think Lovynia is my mate. I feel the mate bond when I’m near her, but it doesn’t seem like she can feel it.” Katrina and Owen stared at him with wide eyes. “She feels nothing because I have severed her mate bond with you, Joshua.” A voice said from behind him. He turned quickly and saw a beautiful woman with flowing white hair, bright blue eyes, and pale skin. “Moon Goddess.” he whispered. She nodded her head. “Selene, please.” She said. “What do you mean you severed her mate bond?” April asked. “I cannot see the outcome of this battle. I have severed the mate bond for all of my children in this pack. I want to prevent any further harm than what is to come. If I can spare the pain of mates dying, I shall. I shall restore the bonds once this fight is over. I truly wish I could help more than this. All I can tell you, is that the man leading the rogues is after a wolf of great power.” Selene explained. Drew went to ask her something, but she was gone. “It’s true. I can’t feel any sparks. I can’t smell the mate scent.” he said in a soft voice. April hugged him and whimpered. “I still love you more than anything, April. Don’t worry about that. Let’s go back to the pack house. We need to be together before s**t hits the fan.” He said and carried April off bridal style. Owen picked Katrina up and carried her off to their house. Joshua, Cody, and Alpha Jonas were the only ones left in the room. “I’m gonna go find my dad.” Cody said and left. Alpha Jonas and Joshua headed toward the pack house. Alpha Joshua sent out a mass link to the entire pack. “Lightless Moon Pack. I bring grave news. We will be under attack at sundown. I ask families to be together in the next few hours. The Moon Goddess spoke to me and said that she severed the mate bond to prevent any more pain than what is coming. She will restore the bond once the enemy is defeated. I ask that the warriors return to the border in three hours. All others, report to the safe house in three hours. The attack will begin in four hours.” As he and Joshua made their way back to the pack house, they saw many families crying together in their homes. “I don’t feel it anymore.” Joshua said in a soft voice. Alpha Jonas put his hand on his son’s shoulder and squeezed it. They went to their floor of the pack house and just sat together, talking. Lovynia was helping the nurses get as many families together as they could. Many of the patients went to their homes, a few had to be moved to the safe house early to meet their families there. An hour later, all of the patients had been removed from the clinic. The nurses and Dr. Marina left, Lovynia headed to her house. When she got home, she sat with her parents in the living room. They all huddled together and wept, waiting for the fight to begin.
