A few weeks passed and Joshua’s ceremony was on the following night. Lovynia’s birthday was two days away and she was more excited than ever to meet her wolves. She had started writing in a journal about the dreams she was having. Each night, they were slightly more vivid than the last. The one she had the night before was worrying. She planned to talk to Alpha Jonas about it. She had talked to him a few days after she went to the mall with the future ranked members. Once she finished writing in her journal, she got a shower and dressed for the day. She went into the kitchen for breakfast and found an envelope on the table with her name on it. She opened it and read the card inside.
‘Lovynia, I’d love it if you could come to the party Drew and I are having tomorrow night. We’re going to celebrate our marking and mating. It’s a few months away, but I’d also love it if you would be my bridesmaid at the wedding. You’re like the sister I never had, and I want nothing more than for my sister to be beside me when I marry the love of my life. Your BFF, April.’
“Awww. That’s so sweet.” Lovynia said to herself. She wouldn’t miss April’s wedding for anything. She shot off a text to her friend.
‘I just read your letter. I’m definitely gonna be at the party tomorrow. Can’t wait to see you.’ She immediately got a reply.
‘I can’t wait to see you either. What about the other thing?’
‘You really have to ask? Of course I’ll be your bridesmaid. I have to be with my sister on her wedding day.’ She didn’t get a reply right away, so she fixed her breakfast. Just as she was about to sit down to eat, there was a pounding at the door that made her jump.
“What the hell?!” she grasped her chest and slowly made her way to the living room. She looked through the peep hole and sighed. April was bouncing on the other side of the door. Lovynia opened the door just a bit and April pushed it open the rest of the way. She wrapped her arms around Lovynia and bounced.
“AAAHHHHHH! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You have no idea how happy I am right now!” she screamed.
“I think I can take a guess. Also, you don’t have to thank me, April. I’d be more than happy to be your bridesmaid. Like you said, we’re sisters. I can’t leave my sister hanging on her own wedding day.” Lovynia replied.
“You want some breakfast while you’re here? I just made mine but you can have it and I can make more, or if you want some fresh food I can make yours?” Lovynia asked.
“I’m starving. It’s your house I’m intruding in, so you pick.”
“Please. You’re not intruding. I’ll make us both some fresh food. We can share what I already made and I’ll make more.” They sat and ate the food that was already made. When Lovynia stood to make more, April asked,
“How’s your dream journal coming along? You haven’t said anything for about a week.”
“The one I had last night has me worried. I texted Josh and asked to see if he could get the Alpha to meet with me about it.” Lovynia replied.
“Ouch, that bad? What happened?”
“I saw the wolves as clearly as if they would have been in this room. The white one was almost glowing, she was so white, and her eyes were such a clear blue they were almost white. The black wolf, it was hard to look at her. You looked up what vantablack is, right?”
“Yeah, it’s kinda creepy.” April said, shivering a bit.
“Her eyes were glowing blood red. The weirdest thing is, I wasn’t afraid of either one of them. Not even the glowing red eyes. It was like I knew I could trust them.”
“What has you so worried then?”
“It’s what they said to me.”
“What did they say?”
“That this pack was going to be destroyed on my birthday.” Lovynia replied.
“That is concerning. Even if it was just a dream, the Alpha needs to know about any potential threat. It might be the Moon Goddess speaking to you.” April suggested. They ate the fresh breakfast and April was heading for the door when there was a knock. Lovynia looked through the peephole and saw Alpha Jonas.
“Good morning, Alpha Jonas. How can I help you?” she asked after she opened the door.
“Morning, Dad.” April said, waving to the Alpha. He smiled at her and said,
“Good morning, princess. If I may, can I borrow your friend for a few minutes?” he asked, looking toward Lovynia. April waved bye and left the house.
“Now, Miss Lovynia. Josh told me about your dream journal these last few weeks. All he told me this morning was that you needed to talk to me about it.” He said, gesturing to the couch in the living room. Lovynia sat on the loveseat next to the couch and Alpha Jonas took the chair across the table from the loveseat. She told him of how clear the wolves were and that she felt no fear. She told him what they said about the pack’s destruction. His eyes widened a bit.
“I see. That truly is worrying. It may be a warning from the Moon Goddess. Just to be on the safe side, I’ll have the non-combatants head to the safe houses tomorrow night. I’ll also step-up patrols around the border. Better safe than sorry, am I right?”
“April also said it could be a message from the Goddess. I had the same feeling to be honest. Alpha, this dream has me scared. I’m worried about my parents and my friends. I’ve never seen those wolves before. No one in the pack has pure white or black wolves. Everyone is either a brownish color or a mix of brown and grey.” She said. Tears started to form in her eyes at the thought of losing her family. Alpha Jonas stood and wrapped her in a hug, holding her as she wept. Some might have called him a soft Alpha, but after the Luna was killed, he took on some of that role. The Beta and Gamma were a bit softer as well. All of the ranked females were killed in a hunter attack ten years ago.
It was a warm spring day, the flowers were in full bloom and the trees were nearly full of leaves. The warriors suddenly linked the pack of a hunter attack. The ranked females got the non-combatants to the safehouses just in time. The Alpha, Beta, and Gamma were with half the warriors on the north end of the pack. The other half were spread through the pack lands, in case any hunters got past the wolves. Many of the warriors on the south end were killed in an ambush. The Luna, Beta female, and Gamma female fought the hunters to the best of their ability, but they were outnumbered. The Luna sent one last link to the Alpha, telling him she loved him. He knew then that had been caught in a pincer attack. Just as he was about to link the Beta and Gamma, a searing pain went through his heart. He roared out in pain and anguish, his heart felt as though it had been ripped out. Rage quickly replaced his pain and he let his wolf take over completely. The hunters in the north end didn’t stand a chance against 3 pissed off, anger-fueled wolves. They were injured, but the hunters were all torn to pieces. They quickly made their way to the south end and ripped into all the hunters there as well. When the last hunter was dead, only then did the ranked members allow themselves time to mourn. The remaining warriors let everyone out of the safe houses and the pack mourned with their ranked members. Many of them lost fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters from the warriors lost.
Lovynia’s sobs turned into hiccups and Alpha Jonas stepped away from her, grabbing tissues from the box on the table. Lovynia thanked the Alpha and wiped the tears from her eyes.
“Lovynia, would you like to come to my office tomorrow morning after you have breakfast? If you learn anything else of an attack in tonight’s dream, that is.” Alpha Jonas asked. Lovynia nodded. She was about to stand when a massive pain ripped through her head. She grasped her head and screamed out, falling to her knees.
“Lovynia! What’s wrong?!” Alpha Jonas shouted. He sent a link to Katrina, Owen, and Dr. Marina. He picked up Lovynia and headed toward the pack clinic. Katrina and Owen were arriving just as he was.
“Alpha, what happened?” Owen asked as Katrina hovered over her daughter.
“I don’t know. She told me about the dream she had last night. She was fine during that. She just suddenly doubled over.” Alpha Jonas explained. Dr. Marina met them at the reception desk and led them to a room. Alpha Jonas laid Lovynia down on the bed and stepped back. Dr. Marina checked everything she could think of, then turned to Owen and Katrina.
“Mr. and Mrs. Frost, Lovynia is going to be fine. It’s her wolf starting to come through.” She said.
“That’s not possible. Her birthday is the day after tomorrow. Wolves always start to appear one day before, not two.” Katrina said, running her fingers through Lovynia’s hair.
“Oh, my. That is strange. I’m not about to ask you if you have the wrong day of birth. Mothers don’t forget things like that. I gave her a dose of pain killers, hopefully that will help. I’d like for her to stay here a few more hours-“
“I can’t stay here tonight.” Lovynia cut her off.
“Sweetheart, why can’t you stay?” Katrina asked, kneeling beside the bed.
“I told April I’d go dress shopping with her. She needs a dress for tomorrow night. She’s gonna be busy all day tomorrow.”
“Dr. Would it be alright if I had a female warrior go with them in case this happens again? That way the warrior can carry Lovynia to the clinic if she collapses.” Alpha Jonas suggested. Lovynia looked to Dr. Marina with pleading eyes, then looked to her parents. Dr. Marina looked to Katrina and Owen. They let out a sigh and nodded their heads.
“Alright. I suppose that would work. You let the warrior know as soon as you feel even the slightest ache, agreed?” she asked. Lovynia nodded with a smile on her face.
An hour later, Lovynia was at the mall with April and Alice, one of the best female warriors in the pack. She was serious about her job, but she also provided her opinion on the dresses April tried on. She had tried on seven dresses, but didn’t like any of them. There were two left in her size. When she showed the second to last dress, Lovynia and Alice both dropped their jaws.
“Damn, girl.” Was all Lovynia said. Alice just stared.
“Is it really that bad?” April asked nervously. Tears started forming in her eyes. She slowly turned around to look in the mirror and her jaw dropped.
“Oh, my god. I love this dress! I’m getting it! I have to have this one in every color they have.” She ran off to find someone to help her. Lovynia and Alice both smiled after her.
“I’m glad she finally found the perfect dress for Future Gamma Drew.” Alice said. Lovynia nodded and started to say something when she was hit with another headache. She gripped the sides of her head.
“Lovynia, I need to get you to the clinic. Can you walk?” Alice asked. Lovynia nodded. They went to find April and saw her at the register. She turned when she heard them coming and her eyes widened.
“Lovynia? Oh my god, what happened? Is it another headache?” she asked, going to her friend. Lovynia nodded again.
“I don’t want to leave you here by yourself though. I need to stay here with you.”
“Don’t even worry about that. You were here when I found the dress, that’s all that matters. You go. Get yourself looked at. I want to be sure you’re gonna be alright.” She said, looking Lovynia in the eye. Lovynia nodded and hugged April.
“I’ll come to the clinic once I’m done here” April said as Alice guided Lovynia out of the shop. As they ware making their way to the clinic, Lovynia doubled over, grasped her head, screamed out in pain, and passed out.
