Lovynia had passed out after she was taken by the man and his rogues. When she woke up, she found herself on a soft bed in a brightly colored room with a window by the bed. She sensed someone in the room with her. She slowly looked on the side of the bed. There was a young man sitting on a chair a few feet from the bed. He looked like he was sleeping. Lovynia slowly sat up, then winced and took a sharp intake of breath as her side twinged in pain. The young man jolted awake at the noise and looked around. His eyes landed on Lovynia and he breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank the goddess you’re awake. Would you like some help sitting up? I promise I won’t bite.” The young man said. Lovynia eyed him for a moment and slowly nodded her head. The man smiled and stood from the chair. He gently helped her to sit up and moved the pillow for her to lean against it. He was lanky and fairly tall with black hair, blue eyes, and light skin. Lovynia caught a strange scent from him. He was human! “Thank you…” she said softly, pausing because she didn’t know his name. He smiled at her. “Sota. My name is Sota Mathis. You’re welcome.” Sota said. He picked up a glass of water from a table by the bed and helped Lovynia to take small sips. She licked her lips gave Sota a small smile. He set the glass down and pulled a phone from his pocket. He tapped on the screen a few times and put it back in his pocket. A few moments later, there was a knock at the door. She looked to Sota, who nodded. “Come in?” Lovynia said, uncertainty in her voice. The door opened to reveal a tall, older man with dark brown hair with grey bits, blue eyes, and tanned skin. He had kind eyes, and Lovynia visibly relaxed around him. He didn’t smell like Sota. He was a werewolf. “Hello, miss. My name is Sylas Mathis. I’m happy to see that you’re awake. If you’d like, I can explain why I wanted to find you so badly.” Lovynia went on high alert at his words. He was the one who sent that man and the rogues to kill her pack. She started growling, her canines bared at Sylas. He put his hands up in surrender and he ushered Sota out of the room. “TELL ME WHY! WHY DID YOU HAVE MY PACK DESTROYED?!” she roared, Tabrin and Azrin fighting to surface. Sylas paled at her words. “What do you mean? I never ordered such a thing. I asked my son to find a strong wolf and to bring them here. That’s all, I promise.” He said, his voice shaking. Lovynia growled at him again and sniffed around. She didn’t smell anything bitter like a lie might smell. She relaxed a bit and he slowly walked toward her. “Please, tell me. What did my son do?” Sylas asked. Lovynia looked into his eyes, which were so kind. They reminded her of her father’s eyes. Tears filled her eyes, and she broke down. Sylas quickly held her in his arms and ran his hand through her hair. “Shhhhh. It’s alright. You get out as much as you need to. When you’re ready, we can talk. Sota, you can come in now.” Sylas called. The door opened and Sota entered the room. He looked worriedly at Lovynia and Sylas. “Find out where Kevin went. I want him here, now.” Sylas said, his voice stern. Sota nodded and left. Lovynia’s cries turned to light sobs and she pulled away from Sylas. “I’m sorry.” She said softly, wiping her eyes with her shirt. “There’s no need to apologize.” Sylas replied, smiling softly at Lovynia. “I don’t mean to sound rude, but you and Sota have the same last name, but he’s human. How did that happen?” Lovynia asks. “My wife and I were hunting several years ago. It was late, the moon was high in the sky. We heard screaming coming from about a mile away. We rushed to the sounds and found a family being attacked by vampires. They were camping. The father had been killed and they were draining the mother. The screaming was coming from their son. He was only six. My wife killed the one draining the mother and I killed one that was holding the boy, forcing him to watch. Another two appeared from inside the tent. We killed them easily. The boy fainted and we took him to our pack clinic. He woke up a few days later. He spent some time with us, he said he had no other family. We grew to love him as if he were our own, so we adopted him.” Sylas explained. Lovynia smiled at the happy ending for Sota. She had never met a vampire before. A few moments later, there was a knock on the door. Before Sylas could say anything, the door was flung open and slammed against the wall. “What the hell, Dad? I was going to go get some supplies when I was dragged back here!” the man growled. Lovynia’s eyes turned blood red and she snarled at him; her canines bared. He smirked at her, as if daring her to attack him. Sylas slowly moved and tried to calm Lovynia down. “IT’S HIS FAULT! THEY’RE ALL DEAD BECAUSE OF HIM!” she roared, Azrin’s voice combining with Lovynia’s. Sylas turned to the man and growled. “What did you do?!” he shouted. The man shrugged his shoulders. “I didn’t do s**t. I don’t know what her problem is.” The man said. He sounded as thought he had not a care in the world. Sylas glared at the man. “Kevin, tell me now. What happened at her pack?” Sylas asked, gritting his teeth. Lovynia snapped at Kevin, her eyes getting a deeper red, a faint glow coming from them. Kevin shrugged his shoulders. “All that happened was that the rogues with me killed all the men in the pack, then they killed all the women and children. What’s the big deal?” Sylas lunged forward and grabbed Kevin by the neck. He slammed Kevin into the wall and tightened his grip. “I NEVER SAID TO KILL ANYONE! HOW MANY DIED AT YOUR HANDS?! I SENT YOU TO OTHER PACKS FOR GODDESS’ SAKE!” Sylas roared. Another man entered the room then. “Alpha Sylas, we asked a few of the rogues that work with your son. They told us that all six packs you asked to have searched, everyone was killed.” The man said in a solemn voice. Sylas’ eyes turned black, and he bared his canines at Kevin. Kevin looked scared for a moment, then hid his fear behind a cocky smirk. “Just let me go, Dad. We both know you’re not gonna do anything to me. It might break Mom’s heart.” He said, his voice laces with attitude. Sylas snarled at his son. “You are no son of mine. You broke your mother’s heart a long time ago. Leave here, now. I never want to see you again.” Sylas said, squeezing the life from Kevin’s throat. He suddenly let go and Kevin fell to the floor. He was coughing and gasping for air. He glared at Lovynia, whose eyes were still red. Kevin jumped up and stormed out of the room, shoving Sota to the ground as he passed him. Once he was out of the room, Lovynia regained control and Azrin retreated. Sylas looked at Lovynia. “Your eyes. They were red. I’ve never seen that. Are you sure you’re a werewolf?” he asked. Lovynia took a shaky breath and replied, “I think I am. I have two wolves, though. One has red eyes and the other has blue eyes.” Sylas stared at her, his eyes wide. He was about to ask her something, but she passed out. He caught her before she hit the ground and gently laid her on the bed. Sota rushed over to help. Sota walked with Sylas out of the room. Sylas asked a couple men to guard Lovynia’s room until she woke up. “I know he’s been kinda messed up for a while, but I never thought he would do something like that.” Sota said. Sylas nodded solemnly. “The worst part? I’m not actually an Alpha, so I can’t banish him. He could easily come back. Hence the guards at her room. Did you get her name, by chance?” Sota shook his head. Sylas sighed and said, “Hopefully she’ll wake up soon. I have so many questions.” Tabrin, Azrin, and Lovynia were having a long talk about what had happened. It was similar to how she met them in her dreams, so she was able to be in their space with them. “I want to rip him to pieces for what he did. Not only to our pack, but to so many others. How many people were killed in those six packs?” Azrin snarled. She was pacing in circles. Tabrin was a different kind of angry. Where Azrin was explosive in her anger, Tabrin was calmer and thought more strategically. “I agree that he needs to be dealt with, but perhaps something that will hurt him more than simply ripping him apart.” She muttered. Lovynia was silent, trying to grieve for all the lives Kevin and his rogues took. She suddenly had a thought. “How does one man command so many rogues?” she asked. Azrin and Tabrin looked at her. Azrin had stopped pacing at the question. The wolves looked at each other. “That’s actually a good question. There must be more than what attacked our pack if he wiped out six others. Our warriors killed almost a hundred at least. Where are they all hiding?” Tabrin asked. Outside of Lovynia’s head, the window by the bed slowly started to open. Kevin snuck his way inside. He grabbed her by the throat and lifted her into the air. She woke with a jolt and tried to gasp for air. Kevin glared at her with black eyes. His claws grew out and punctured her throat on the sides. She wasn’t able to scream because of how tightly Kevin was squeezing her throat. “I’m gonna kill you now. I lost my chance at being Alpha because of you. I should have killed you with the rest of your pathetic little pack.” He growled. He threw her out the window and he jumped out after. She was trying to stand, but he got to her too quickly. He kicked her hard in the stomach, sending her flying several feet. She crashed into a nearby tree. Her back made a sickening c***k. He rushed her and threw several punches all over her body. He aimed at her chest, face, arms, legs, stomach, back, and head. A howl sounded and Kevin stopped his relentless beating. He heard several people approaching quickly. He jumped up and ran as fast as he could away from Lovynia. He went to the hideout where all of the rogues in his service were waiting. Sylas was running to the clinic near the house where Lovynia was being kept. Sota was hot on his heels. The guards stationed at Lovynia’s room peeked in to check on her and noticed the window open and her bed empty. They thought she might have woken up and ran away. They howled to alert Sylas that she was missing. He sent a search party out to find her. One of the small groups heard Kevin beating Lovynia and rushed to them. By the time they arrived, Kevin was gone. “I swear, if I ever see that pitiful excuse of a wolf again, I’ll kill him myself.” Sylas snarled. He stopped at the registration desk. “She was just taken into surgery, Alpha. You and Sota can go to the waiting area outside of the surgery ward.” The nurse behind the desk said. His eyes grew wide with worry. He and Sota bolted toward the surgery ward. Just as they rounded the corner and the surgery doors were in sight, Sylas stopped in his tracks as he heard the most horrible sound. The heart monitor Lovynia was hooked up to had flatlined. Lovynia had died.
