Sylas and Sota stood just outside of the surgery doors. They were in shock. They watch as the doctor and nurses worked as hard as they could to revive Lovynia. After half an hour, Dr. Olivia Castle was about to call the time of death. She started to speak when Lovynia suddenly took in a huge breath of air. The heart monitor read a steady beat and her vitals were normal. Dr. Olivia shook her head in disbelief. Though she was breathing, she was still unconscious. Dr. Olivia had more surgery still to do on Lovynia. She had a nurse administer some anesthesia to her IV and waited to make sure she would not flatline again. Once they were sure they were safe, the continued the surgery.
After a few more hours, Dr. Olivia went to Sylas and Sota.
“How is she?” Sylas asked as he shot up from the chair he was in.
“She’s out of surgery and we’ve taken her off of the anesthesia. She should wake up soon. Her wounds have started to heal already, so I’m certain she will physically make a full recovery. Emotionally and mentally, time will tell. We’ll take her to a recovery room and you and Sota can sit there with her. We will have nurses check her vitals every hour.” Dr. Olivia explained. Sylas and Sota let out a sigh of relief. Dr. Olivia went back into the surgery room and helped get Lovynia ready for transport. Sylas and Sota followed them to the nicest recovery room at the clinic. Dr. Olivia and the nurses left once Lovynia was in the bed and looked comfortable.
“If she wakes up, I’ll let you know as soon as I can. Thank you, Dr.” Sylas said. Sota thanked her as well and took a seat by the bed. Sylas sat for a while, the stood and paced, then sat again. A repeating cycle he kept doing for about half an hour.
“Dad, what’s on your mind?” Sota asked.
“That bastard son of mine, Kevin. I swear. If I ever see him again, I’ll rip out his throat.” Sylas growled. Sota nodded. He looked back to Lovynia and saw her move ever so slightly. She moved again.
“Dad! She’s waking up!” Sota said. Sylas turned and watched as Lovynia’s eyes slowly opened. He ran out of the room and called for Dr. Olivia. Within moments, a team of nurses was in the room and checking her vitals and her pupil dilation. Once they got everything entered onto her chart, the nurses all left. Lovynia looked around at the now less crowded room.
“Where am I?” she asked in a croaked voice. Sota gently stood, grabbed a glass of water, and helped Lovynia take a few sips.
“Do you remember us?” Sylas asked. Lovynia nodded.
“You’re Sylas and Sota. You’re father and son through adoption.” She said. Sylas nodded.
“What do you remember before waking up here?” Dr. Olivia asked. Lovynia c****d her head to the side and looked at her.
“I’m sorry. I’m Dr. Olivia Castle.” She introduced herself. Lovynia nodded to her.
“I remember lying in the bed in the other room and the window was opened from the outside. The man who attacked my pack crawled through the window and threw me out of it. Once we were outside, he started beating me. He threw me into a tree, and I thought my back was broken. I remember hearing shouting and he ran off. The next thing I knew, I was here, and I was surrounded.” Lovynia explained. Dr. Olivia took notes on what Lovynia remembered and nodded her head.
“If I may, Lovynia. Are your eyes naturally like that or did that happen after you were attacked here? I don’t have anything from Sylas or Sota about your eyes.” Dr. Olivia said.
“My wolves said it will be temporary. It will only last a week, then my eyes will go back to their natural brown.” Lovynia said.
“I’m sorry, did you say wolves as in plural?” Dr. Olivia asked, staring at Lovynia with wide eyes. She glanced at Sylas and Sota, but they didn’t seem shocked.
“We already knew. She told us the first day she was here.
“Yes. Two wolves. Believe me, I was shocked, too. They told me that I needed to at least hear you out, Sylas. I’m ready to listen.” Lovynia said. He looked at Dr. Olivia and asked her to give them a few minutes. She nodded and left. He let out a heavy sigh and sat in another chair that was brought in.
“I was an Alpha once. Not that long ago, maybe about ten years now. We were once a thriving pack with over four hundred members. Everyone was happy. One day, while my Beta, Gamma, and myself were hunting, there was a hunter attack. We were outside the range for the link, so we didn’t know until a warrior came to find us. When we got back, half the pack was dead. We were on our way to the safehouse when the three of us felt our hearts being ripped from our chests. We all crumpled to the ground in pain and agony. Our mates had just been killed. We went into a rage and killed all of the hunters before they could escape. My Gamma was the first to fall after he killed twenty hunters. My Beta killed fifty before he died. I killed the last fifty and was badly wounded. I nearly died, but Dr. Olivia was able to get to me in time. What remained of the pack mourned out lost for a week. The houses were destroyed, the packhouse was destroyed. There was no way we could have stayed there. I called for the remaining members to gather, and we all voted. I asked them if they wanted to stay as a full pack and risk another hunter attack, or if they wanted to dissolve the pack and go our separate ways. I assured them there would be no hard feelings to those who wanted to leave. I completely understood. They all wanted to dissolve the pack, but many of them wanted to stay with the people they thought of as family. We moved to a new land that was an abandoned human town. That is where we are now. They still call me Alpha out of respect, but I no longer hold that power. A few months ago, I had a dream that a young wolf would be able to take the title of Alpha and bring this broken pack back to its former glory. My bastard of a son volunteered to find this wolf. I was surprised. After the attack, he was changed. He was hateful and cruel. Now that I know what happened to your pack, I know why he wanted to find that wolf. He wants to be Alpha, but I would never hand this pack over to him now. Maybe before he became this evil thing he is now. I want you to be the Alpha of this pack, Lovynia. I know you can lead us into a bright future. That dream was from the Goddess, I know it was. Please, think on it. After you’re healed, wander around a bit and meet some of the people here. Talk to your wolves about it. You’re welcome to stay here as long as you want. Thanks to my bastard son, you don’t have a home to go back to and I can’t express enough how sorry I am about that. I know firsthand what it is to lose your home. Sota and I will leave you to think it over and rest.” Sylas gave her a soft smile and stood. Sota followed him out of the room.
Lovynia found herself walking through the same field she saw when she saw her wolves the first time. A soft voice called her name. She was following the voice and it led her to a clearing with a pond with two large stones to sit on. A woman with long, white hair was sitting on the larger stone. When she turned to face Lovynia, she has pale skin and dark blue eyes with specks of white in them.
“Moon Goddess.” Lovynia breathed as she started to kneel down.
“Please, don’t do that, my child. I hate it when my children bow to me.” She said in a soft voice. A wave of calm washed over Lovynia when the Goddess spoke to her. Lovynia looked at her and asked,
“Why me? Why was I bonded to two wolves? Why was I, an Omega, asked to suddenly become an Alpha to a broken pack? Why did everything I ever know and love have to be destroyed?” She started to shout at the last question. The Moon Goddess sighed and said,
“I chose you because I saw who you could become. You have a pure heart and a deep love for your friends and family. You’ve only known Sylas and Sota for a little over a day and already you feel a bond with them. As for why you were asked to be an Alpha, you would have been the Luna of your pack had Kevin not attacked. However, you were meant to be an Alpha. You have the heart of an Alpha. With Tabrin and Azrin, you have the power of an Alpha. You are meant to be one of the greatest Alphas of this age. Listen to your instincts and your wolves and you will be an amazing Alpha.” The Goddess put her hand on Lovynia’s shoulder and looked lovingly into her eyes. Lovynia felt pride from the Goddess.
“Alright. I’ll do it.” Lovynia said. The Goddess smiled and nodded. Lovynia felt someone behind her. Just as she turned, she woke up and was in the hospital bed.
