Two months passed and Lovynia had gotten to know several people. Her eyes did go back to their natural brown after a week of having her wolves, just as they said. Sylas and Sota brought their closest friends to meet her before she was released from the clinic. They told their friends and family and so on. She had made fast friends with Chrissy Slater. She was also an Omega from Sylas’s pack. She stayed with Sylas while her family left to look for another pack. She was close friends with Sota. While Lovynia and Chrissy were walking around the houses a week after Lovynia was released, she noticed Chrissy stealing glances at the young men training to be warriors. Lovynia smirked and nudged Chrissy with her elbow.
“Do you have your eyes on someone over there or are you just enjoying the sights?” she asked. Chrissy blushed and hid her face in her hands. Lovynia laughed and said,
“No need to be embarrassed. There’s nothing wrong with looking. Have you found your mate yet? Is he one of them?” Lovynia began getting excited for her friend.
“He hasn’t come of age yet. I turned 18 four months ago, but his birthday is tomorrow. I think he’s my mate, but I don’t know for sure yet.” Chrissy replied. Lovynia hugged her friend.
“What about you? Do you think you’ll have a second chance in the men here?”
“I don’t think so, at least not yet. Tabrin and Azrin both say he’s not here yet. That’s all they ever say. I’m beginning to think I don’t have a second chance. I’m not too worried about it right now anyway. I have enough on my plate. I haven’t told Sylas yet that I will become Alpha here. I might tell-“ Lovynia was cut off by Chrissy squeezing the air from her lungs.
“You’re gonna do it?! That’s great! He’s gonna be so excited. Can I be there when you tell him, please? I want to be there. Please?” Chrissy begged. Lovynia sighed and shook her head.
“Of course. You have to be there. I’ll tell him as soon as I see him next.” Chrissy jumped up and down in excitement. She drew the attention of the warriors and they ran off to talk elsewhere. They talked more about the pack before it became the way it was. They talked about the pack Lovynia came from. It was getting a bit easier for her to talk about it before she had to change the subject. Tabrin and Azrin were helping to heal a great deal of the emotional pain tied to the attack. Dr. Castle asked Lovynia to see her every week for counseling. In just two months, Lovynia had healed much better than anyone would have expected. Dr. Castle thought that the worst of it was from knowing that Kevin was still out there with the rogues he worked with. Lovynia often had nightmares about him attacking and her losing everything again. Tabrin and Azrin have assured her that if he would attack, she could kill him without even thinking about it.
Lovynia saw Sylas talking with an old friend of his. She waited for their conversation to end before she approached them.
“Lovynia, what can I do for you?” Sylas asked after his friend said hello to Lovynia and left.
“Can we talk somewhere else? It’s important. I want Sota there too.” She said. Sylas nodded and led her inside his house to the room she had been sleeping in since she first arrived. Sota knocked on the door a few moments later and was let in.
“What’s up, Lovynia?” Sota asked. She took a deep breath and said,
“I’ll be the Alpha for this pack.” Sylas was silent for several moments. Sota blinked a few times before a smile overtook his face. Sylas smiled and breathed a sigh of relief. He took Lovynia’s hands and shook them.
“Thank the Goddess! When do you want to have the ceremony? I’ll have to call the old Elders and ask how to do this.”
“Can we have the ceremony the day after tomorrow? I’d do it tonight, but I want to be able to announce who the Beta will be. Will that be an issue?” Lovynia asked.
“Not an issue at all. May I ask who the Beta will be?” Sylas asked. Sota looked nervously at Lovynia.
“I can say that it’s not you, Sota. I know you were raised in a pack from a very young age, but you’re still human and I wouldn’t put that much strain on you. I do want to make you Delta at some point if you would like that. I think I know who the Gamma will be. I just hope they accept. As far as the Beta, it’s a secret.” Sota breathed a sigh of relief.
“I’d like to be the Delta when you think I’m ready. Do you think we’ll be a large enough pack to need a Delta?” he asked.
“With the power you will gain once you become Alpha, this pack will grow much larger than even Lightless Moon. Have faith in us, your pack, and your abilities.” Tabrin said.
“Tabrin said that so long as I trust in her and Azrin, the pack, and my abilities as Alpha, the pack will grow to be very large. I’m sure we’ll be able to handle it, though.” Lovynia said. Sylas and Sota nodded. Sylas went to call an Elder from his old pack. Sota walked with Lovynia for a bit longer and they talked about the future. At dinner that night, Sylas gathered all of the people in the large yard near his house.
“Attention, everyone! I have a very important announcement! Over the last couple months, you all have met Lovynia and had a chance to speak with her. We have been a broken pack for far too long. Many of you still call me Alpha out of respect and I do appreciate that. However, I will no longer be called Alpha. In two days, we will be a true pack once again. I have searched for many years for a young wolf who would take the title of Alpha and lead this pack. I have finally found that wolf. Lovynia has agreed to become Alpha. I have called Elder Marks and he will be here tomorrow night. The ceremony will be the following day.” Sylas shouted to the crowd. Cheers went up from everyone.
“I OBJECT!” was shouted above the crowd and the cheers suddenly stopped. Sylas growled when he saw who spoke.
“Kevin! You are no longer welcome here. Get out before I have the warriors force you to leave.” He said, venom dripping from every word.
“I was supposed to be the Alpha! I’m your only blood son! I’m the heir to the pack! It belongs to me!” Kevin yelled. He stalked toward Lovynia and Sylas, his claws extended. He swiped at Sylas, but he didn’t connect. He felt a pain in his left arm and looked down at it. He screamed when he saw that he no longer had a left arm. Movement at his side made him turn. He saw Lovynia standing with her claws extended and his severed arm in her hand.
“What have you done to me?!” he shouted. Sylas stared with wide eyes and slowly moved away. Lovynia had closed her eyes before she attacked. She opened them to reveal Azrin’s red eyes. She bared her teeth and snarled at Kevin.
“This is just a small price for what you have done to me. You killed everyone I ever loved. You killed all of my friends. You killed my entire pack!” she lunged toward him and pinned him to the ground. Her claws dug into his right arm and torso. He screamed in pain and writhed. The more he moved, the more her claws dug into his flesh. He kicked his legs up and forced her off of him. She tore chunks of flesh off when she was moved back. Kevin was losing a lot of blood in a short amount of time. He tried to stand but fell back to the ground.
“How are you this strong? You’re just an Omega.” He panted. His vision began to go dark.
“This is for my pack.” Lovynia whispered and swiped her claws across Kevin’s throat, tearing out his neck. He gurgled for a few seconds before his body went limp and he was silent. His eyes wide open and staring out at nothing. Lovynia’s eyes returned to brown as she tossed the severed arm next to Kevin’s body. She turned and went inside the house. She returned a few moments later and looked at Sylas. She bowed deeply and said,
“I’m sorry. I should not have allowed Azrin to kill him without first asking what you wanted to be done with him.” Sylas looked down at her and sighed. He walked over to her and gently placed his hand on the back of her head.
“Please, don’t bow or apologize. He got what was coming to him. After he told me what he did to all those other packs, I wanted him dead. He stopped being my son a long time ago. Raise your head and stand proud, Alpha.” He told her. Lovynia stood straight and Sylas smiled at her with pride in his eyes. She looked out over the crowd. They all bowed and called out,
“Alpha!”
