chapter one
I had already decided that i did not like him.
Firstly, his cockiness. Secondly, the constant smirk on his face. Thirdly, his ego.
Lucas thought that he was probably too good looking and as much as i hated to admit it. He was.
Yes. Lucas Donnovan was hot and he knew it. It seemed that God had spent a lot of time molding him to perfection.
That glittering green eyes. That rich wavy dark hair. Those full lips. He had the perfect physic.
An old couple who lived next door had sold their home, retiring to a nursing home and Lucas and his dad had moved in.
His dad was usually not around. But from what i heard about him from my aunt, he was an irresponsible father.
I did not know anything about his mom though. His dad was more like a movie star, playboy and had probably had Lucas when he was in high school.
Why? he looked so young. More like a super model. I had never been into older men but i had to admit that Reece Donnovan, Lucas' too young father was hot. The older version of Lucas. They came from old family money.
My aunt clearly did not fancy him because she did not approve of his lifestyle. Aunt Mary was a stiff judgemental snob and she was all about the Indian heritage.
I myself am partly Indian and my aunt never liked the fact that her elder sister, my mom, had married a American.
"They are irresponsible". She had said.
And sadly, true to her words my parents were divorced four years after i was born.
My father immediately married the French Lady he had been having an affair with.
He had a family of his own now and they travelled the globe.
My father never really acknowledged me except to send post cards once in a blue moon. I did not care though. The man was a stranger to me
Reese Donnovan had moved in three months ago. Alone. And his lifestyle no doubt infuriated my aunt. She was always throwing glances towards the Donnovans' yard, making snide comments.
Reese Donnovan rarely slept at home and even when he did, always came home with one dumb bimbo or the other. All sorts of tramp girls with fake silicon boobs. Mostly blondes. You could tell he favoured blondes.
A month ago, his son came. They seemed very close. More like brothers instead of father and son.
Mr Donnovan did not care if his son threw outrageous parties. He was an irresponsible father and usually left Lucas to his own vices. It annoyed me and my nosy aunt to no end.
Today, my aunt had had enough. She was going to give Mr Donnovan a piece of her mind.
She immediately made her way across the yard to meet him as he came out of his brand new Lamborghini. I trailed behind her.
Mr Donnovan was dressed like a rock star star as always, looking drop dead gorgeous. He had not slept in and was coming back from God knows where. His son Lucas had friends over last night and they had been making a hell of a noise. Disturbing the peace of the neighbourhood. I myself could not study for my college entrance exams.
"Mr Donnovan! Mr Donnovan! "
Aunt Mary called, hurrying to meet him as he made his way to the door.
She flung her scarf across her shoulder, trying to catch her breath.
He turned around. Shades on. A big smile appeared on his face. Mr Donnovan was a charmer. But my aunt did not care for this. It annoyed her.
"Yes Mary how's it going? "
This annoyed aunt Mary. Did he just call her Mary? They weren't on a first name basis.
"Its miss Rajah to you". She snorted. Disgust apparent in her face.
The smile never left Reese Donnovan's face
He whipped off his shades to give her a once over.
This infuriated aunt Mary.
How dare he acknowledge her like one of his bimbos.
"You're looking pretty today Mary". He went on, ignoring her statement of calling her miss Rajah.
"The name's miss... "
"yeah yeah... " He waved her off. "Common. Stop being a stiff and loosen up".
"A.....a...stiff?" Aunt Mary chocked out.
"Yeah Mary. You only live once"
And he winked at her. Totally winked at her!
This startled my aunt and she remained rooted to a spot. Lost of words. Aunt Mary was never lost of words.
"Anyways... ". Mr Donnovan went on, reaching for his house key and opening the door. "I'm having a house warming party. Too late i know...since i moved in a couple of months back. But you and your beautiful niece should come".
He turned to me, flashing his boyish, charming smile which transformed his face. I blushed.
Yeah. Reese Donnovan was definitely trouble. And even more so was his son.
I knew we were going to have a pretty interesting year ahead of us.
"Hey you! Mr Donnovan!" My aunt began. " I'm not done!"
The door was slammed in her face, cutting her short.
My aunt turned around and stamped back to the house with me hot on her heels.
"He's a scumbag.... Nincompoop...i'm filing a complaint! " My aunt threatened. "He'll see. One more outrageous party and i'm filing a complaint! "
