CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Madden pulled Eva beyond the cover of the treeline. “Come on. He’s bad news, whoever he is, but the Banks brothers are after us in their own back yard! We have to keep moving, or you are dead and I'm deader.”
“Where do we go?” Eva sought an escape in the trees, scared to let go of Madden's hand lest she lose him. They had only gone twenty yards or so. Already the imposing foliage leaned in above, piling additional pressure into the atmosphere.
“It doesn't matter where, as long as we keep moving. They can sense me, remember? Our only hope is to injure them. Your friends will be along to finish them off. Today the enemy of our enemy is our friend.”
Eva stopped, infuriated by the reference. “What do you mean, my friends? I didn't ask for this. I just want Nina back.”
