Chapter Four

The room was stiflingly hot but Gabbi managed to suffer through it with gritted teeth as she listened to her elder brother give words of wisdom as though he were a sage old man. "What is your problem-" she asked, swinging around the room, when he replied she could only snort. "So Salvador died and I moved to Balas. How does that in any way make me a ninny that is now unfit to make decisions." she queried " You are grieving Gatita, deciding was too much of a haste" " Christ - Andreas,I stopped grieving for the man before he was buried." She exclaimed, on the line he sighed and she wondered if he had started playing with his fingers as he normally did when frustrated. "All right, so why open a business, if you wanted vacation, that was easily done-" growling, she cut him shut. "Don't patronize me " she warned, keeping herself from lashing out. "Gatita, I am just worried, " he began and she snapped. "Andreas, you are ten years too late. I married Salvador, and stayed married longer because I didn't want to worry you when you were already low and I survived , so inheriting a house and trying to build my life back is far more sensible than wallowing in self pity." Well aware that by his intake of breath Gabbi had struck home, afraid she would destroy their tenuous relationship she tossed the phone to her desk. She and Andreas had been close, he had been her hero saving her from their parents drunken temper and when he fell in love with his wife Sofia it had been wonderful. Then she had married Salvador against his warning and suffered the consequences , Sofia died a few years later and Andreas wallowed in grief drowning in bottle after bottle of drink while she had borne her pain unwilling to make him more depressed. At the end of it all both siblings had come out worse for wear but with a tentative truce, massaging her forehead to stave off the impending headache, she glanced around her office the sound of equipment hammering through the house, determined to salvage some of her day she walked downstairs to check the progress. Everything seemed to be going fine, tools hummed and groaned somewhere far off, deciding to start with the kitchen she moved on softly, she smiled when she found Camilla rolling dough as she chatted with one of the workers she glanced around pleased to see that most of the kitchen was done which stressed the fact that she needed to get her furniture together, hurrying away to see to it Gabbi walked on in haste just as her gaze fluttered upwards and froze up on a ladder in her home the man whom had hunted her dreams and sadly her waking hours was perched on the top wielding a hammer looking oh so delicious, he pounded a nail deep in the wall his muscles bulging as sweat dripped down his skin a tiny sigh echoed in her head while her ovaries went haywire clamoring for 'just a taste' they said the part of her brain that was still rational snorted, taking at her. 'you haven't learned, need I remind you of Salvador' it said softly with a hint of exasperation, growling as she shot at him. "What the hell are you doing here" after he had left she had not seen hide for days except in her illicit dreams that she would rather die than recount. He glanced down his serious gaze morphing to a smirk. "I am working, should I be doing something else.” "Your not supposed to be here" she retorted even as she struggled not to swallow her tongue,he stepped down the ladder. "I was told you needed help renovating,I was able to get some friends to help" he whispered as he drew near her nodding towards the back she looked around him and almost heaved a sigh she had no idea where they made him and his friends but she really needed to find out. All were above six feet with wide shoulders and faces that rivaled Adonis, most were currently shirtless. "I am guessing that Camilla let you in" she sighed and he nodded "Look I don't need help so maybe you can leave" she started but he shook his head. "Why don't you like me" he asked and Gabbi sighed. "Look I think we should -" he stalked forward cutting her off effectively. "No I don't think so, let make a deal I want to know you so in return for repairing your home I want three dates.” "Never-" she spluttered and he shrugged. "I leave with my men then, trust me you need us.” "No I don't, now take your men and leave" she insisted shakily , she watched his sly grin but didn't let it disturb her, he whistled and gestured to the men to leave. "Call me Gabbi when you need me" he said and Gabbi scoffed in his dreams. She didn't wait for him to leave and didn't trust herself to confront Camilla without screaming either so she walked upstairs to her phone and called her contracting company, they had some of their workers go down and were short staffed but Camilla had assured them it was alright, she gave a polite thank you and then proceeded to call other services by late evening she was sure she bad a throbbing vein in her head from anger and frustration plus her whole afternoon had been futile, it seemed all construction companies were shut down for one reason or another exhaling softly Gabbi was just about ready to curse Dan Vineras' name, especially when she could hear him laughing at her in the background, she called him later that night. " Hello sweetheart" he drawled . " I'll do it.”
