We were still inside our room, and nobody had given us anything. They have told us that they will give us what we need, but no one has come.
No one had ever called me, and I haven’t heard anything from them as a witness. No one had asked me questions about what we had seen, and I am more than relieved as I don't know what to answer if they happened to question me.
I am still here, lying on my bed for so long. I couldn't get a good sleep, and I don't think I can still sleep soundly after I had seen that, and after the things that they had told me. I couldn't connect everything in one frame.
Their eyes were telling something, but I couldn't get the point. Quinn. Until now, I couldn't understand what he was trying to say last night, but one thing is for sure, it concerns me and Luna.
That woman, she's still probably looking at her laptop which she always does. I couldn't even properly look at her nor get a glimpse of her as I am facing the wall, opposite to hers. I don't feel like talking to her, or communicating with anyone right now.
"Wait. What's this?" I closed my eyes, and I'm trying my best not to listen to her. My curiosity almost killed me last night, and I should not make the same mistake twice. Once is enough Llaine. Save your energy, and save yourself, just please.
"Llaine." I opened my eyes as soon as I heard my name. The way she calls me bothers me more.
"I know you're awake." I know I am awake too, Luna. Don't drag me into something that you are up to, because once I got interested into something, I couldn't hold myself back, so please, stop bothering me.
"Why?" I really hate myself right now, really.
"Where are your cameras?" My cameras? She's really so unpredictable. Out of nowhere she's just asking me about my camera.
"In my luggage. Why?" I am still staring on the wall in front of me, not bothering to look at her.
"Can I see it for a while? I need to check something." Is it dejavu? Quinn had said that too, but it's my phone which he had checked. What's up with these people?
"Just a sec." I sighed. I don't know what she's going to do with it, but honestly, I am losing interest with anything. I just want to be back home, away from these people surrounding me.
I pulled myself out of the bed, and sat down on the floor as I pulled my luggage under my bed, to give what she wanted, without asking what she would be doing with it. Because she might not answer me directly again and let me figure out the answer myself. I don't want to add another piece of puzzle that I would probably be thinking about for so long again. It's way too much for me.
"Here." She stood up from her bed, and walked towards where I am. I want to stop her, but words have betrayed me. I am feeling so nervous, and my hands started to shake again. I don't know why, but I need to control myself. Calm down Llaine. It's alright. It's Luna.
"Are you alright? You've become so pale." I know she's concerned, but Quinn's words were echoing inside my head, and the way she looked at Luna keeps on replaying inside my head.
"Y-yeah. Here it is." I handed her my camera while controlling the shaking of my hand, when she arrived just inches away, in front of me.
For a second, she was just looking at my hands, and slowly, her gaze went up to my face, before she grabbed the camera that I was holding.
I watched her do her thing, looking for something on my camera.
"Do you have another camera that you have installed somewhere, or something that you're using to take a video for your vlogs?"
She's talking in her normal way of speaking, the way I first heard her voice on the plane, a very weird one, and I found it disturbing. Why would she ask for my cameras?
"Nothing. That's the only… camera I have right now." Her eyes narrowed, looking at me, like she's trying to test me if I am lying or not.
"Why? Is there any problem?"
"You might want to see this." She turned her back to me after putting down my camera on my bed. I really couldn't read this woman.
I didn't bother to stand up and stayed on the floor where I was seated, while I was watching her walking back towards her bed.
She picked up her laptop and walked back towards me, placing her laptop on my bed in front of me.
"Look." The screen of her laptop was showing different footage of angles of our room, dividing the screen with small screens for each footage.
"What's this? I mean, why? How?" So is this why she was asking for my camera? To check if it's me who had placed those cameras? But why can't I see the cameras?
I scanned the room with my eyes, but there were no unusual things here inside, no signs of camera, nothing at all, so how come that we could see so much live footage of us on the monitor?
"We're… being watched." My stares got stuck on her as she said that.
"There was just one CCTV Camera inside our room yesterday. But it multiplied."
Luna, you know what's scaring me right now? You said you love hacking, as much as I love travelling, but how could you hack without an internet connection? Without having any mobile signal here, on the island? As far as I know, hackers need an internet connection to hack something, and the problem now is, there are no internet connections here and no mobile networks are working, so how come she had all this footage here.
"They probably installed everything yesterday. That's why no one's allowed to stay inside the building."
"But why would they install those?" I moved my suspicions about her to the back of my mind, as it is not the right time to suspect everything about her. This is a bigger question now, why did they install all of these here?
"That, I don't know." She said.
*Knock *knock.
There was a knock on the door. It's really like a dejavu. Someone had knocked again on our door when we were both talking about some important matter here. They must be really watching us right now. We both looked towards each other, just like yesterday.
She looked at the screen of her laptop first before opening the door, just like what she did the first time someone had knocked there.
"We're very sorry about the inconvenience. But here's your food for lunch. We're short with our staff right now, but we are trying to provide all your needs, especially your food. We hope you understand." That's a woman's voice. I didn't bother myself to look and go to the door just to see her. I am just watching them from Luna's laptop. She really hacked every camera here, but I see, it's just our room which I could see from here. There was no footage of the other rooms, other than the cameras at the hallways.
"It's just fine. Have a great day." I looked towards Luna who's pushing the food cart that they had prepared for the two of us, and she closed the door when she got inside again.
"Have you seen the cameras?" I asked her as soon as she stopped in front of the table.
"Those were spy cameras, I guess. There have been so many inventions of small cameras. Others are the size of salt, that's probably why it is not visible to our normal sight." She said as she transfers the plates and our food on the table.
"That's why I asked you if you had set up your cameras somewhere inside our room. But I already thought it's not possible as I didn't see you setting up your camera here. I only saw you set that up when we were riding the plane."
I guess we're both suspecting each other here, Luna. But I am more suspicious of you, I'm sorry. I just couldn't trust anyone here that fast. You were all so weird, and I am not used to being with someone in one enclosed space.
"Come on. Let's eat before it gets cold." She said. She had finished setting up the table, and she already set aside the food cart and placed it just near the table.
Alright, Llaine, we need to eat. But is the food's safe to eat? They might have put something there to kill us or- Llaine, please. Just free up your mind with negativity.
I stood up and walked towards the table. I sat across from her and picked up the spoon and fork that she had placed in order on the table.
***
We ate our lunch peacefully, and no one had died from the two of us, so it's fine, as long as we're alive and breathing.
Hours had passed, but we are still here, stuck inside our room, without any news from the outside. My vacation's really so ruined, and I decided not to take any video again from this tour.
It's already six in the evening, and there's a heavy rain outside which we could hear from here, and the loud sound of thunder was echoing all over the place, which makes me shiver. I am not usually afraid of the thunder, but it hits differently now that we're on this island.
"What's that?" We both looked towards the direction of where we heard the sound, which seemed like the sound of a gun fired to something.
One, turned to two and then the next thing I know, that sound was continuously making noise, along with the loud sound of thunder.
No. Not a gun-fire please. Not that sound. I covered my ears so I couldn't hear that sound, but it was too loud, and it's not helping me.
I dragged myself out of my bed and sat on the corner of the room, bracing myself, covering my ears with the hope of not hearing the sound. But it's just so loud and it's coming from the back of this building, and it's just near us.
Memories flashing inside my head. The body that we had seen, that sound of footsteps dragging someone, it's all ringing in my head. And I don't know why, of all the things, that gunfire sound reminded me of the body we had found in the Ladies' restroom. I am trying to contain my tears, but it all fell at once. What's the problem now Llaine? You aren't easily scared, but look at you now. A single sound of thunder along with the gunfire sound, drives you crazy this fast.
My phone vibrated inside my pocket, and I picked it up with my shaky hand. I opened it, only to see a pop-up message on the screen.
“Caution! Be brave. You need that to face everything on this island. And be prepared for whatever may happen next."
There’s no signal on the island, not even an internet connection, so how come I have received a message?
My heart pounded more as I read it. My eyes suddenly landed towards Luna, who was sitting on her bed in with her laptop, and she's holding her phone in front of her.
She might have received the same message as me. But who would have sent us a message without any signal?
Luna looked towards me, but her eyes were different. She was looking at me with furrows in between her brows, and I couldn't read her again. It's as if she got angry about something. It's my very first time seeing her this way. And it's creeping me out, really, as she's looking at me with those eyes.
