We went outside the restroom as the staff of the Island were collecting the body.
Quinn sat beside me, after he helped the other woman calm down from the shock from what we had seen.
“I’ll give your phone back later. I just need to check something, if it’s just fine with you.” I nodded but I really didn’t understand what he had said, as I was still in shock, and still trying to collect myself back to normal.
“Something’s not right here.” He whispered, and that caught my attention. I looked at him, and to where he was looking. He was looking somewhere, through the dark, towards the place where I heard the footsteps of someone, dragging something.
“Would you mind if I talk to you somewhere? Not here.” He said. Now, he’s looking at me, directly through my eyes. I can’t think of anything now, so I just nodded as a response.
He stood up, and walked to the front of the restroom so I followed him quietly. He stopped just as he knew that we were already away from everyone. I saw him sighed, before looking at me.
“You heard that right? The footsteps. That’s why you tried to look for it.” My brows automatically formed a furrow just in between them.
“How’d you know it was me?”
“I just know. But something’s not right here. I think he was killed inside.” You just know? I remained silent, and waited for him to continue what he was trying to say.
“There is no sign of blood on the floor. As we both heard from the outside, he was dragged by someone, but I had checked the floor where he was dragged and there’s none.” Alright? So he might be alive when he was being dragged?
“And I saw how they had just moved the body with the blue bag without checking him and how he died.”
“What are you trying to say now?” It was too cold out here, and It is getting colder while he was talking about that thing that we had seen. I just couldn’t take the suspense anymore.
“They don’t have plans to investigate.” He whispered.
I saw the people leaving the scene, and two people were holding the blue bag where they had placed the body of that man, Quinn was also staring at them.
“They might ask us as we are both witnesses.” He then looked at me with seriousness written all over his face.
“I just want to tell you to be careful of what you are going to say. His death might be intentional, and there might be another death anytime, so Do not trust anyone, and always put your guards up.” He said, before leaving me here alone.
***
Here we are, all gathered inside the dining hall, from where we were gathered earlier for the dinner, seated on the same spot, on the same table.
Luna’s beside me, patting my back as I control myself from breaking down, drinking so much water to calm myself and to mend my nervousness.
Quinn’s in front of me, and Ace on his side. I don’t know why they changed their seats, but I think that’s better, because I have been with him once, and my awkwardness towards him has decreased a little, while Ace, I don’t really like how he looks at me.
But this man in front of me, doesn’t seem to be bothered by what we have seen earlier. He’s just fine with it, and as I am looking at his eyes right now, I can’t see any sign of fear from those black eyes, it's as if he’s used to seeing those kinds of things. And the way he said those things earlier was just too plane and normal for him.
I put down the bottled water Luna has given me, without breaking eye contact with this man. I won’t be suspicious about you as you were there beside me all those times, but I am bothered how you’re just acting so cool with everything that we have seen.
He’s looking at me with those blank eyes, and it’s not the same as how he looks at me earlier.
“Here.” He placed my phone on the table while looking at me, directly through my eyes, but I caught him glancing towards Luna for a little while and brought back his gaze towards me, with a change of expression in his eyes. What was that?
I grabbed my phone back when someone started speaking in front. The woman earlier, who had welcomed us, was in front of the microphone again. The place suddenly caught up with silence as soon as she started speaking.
“We don’t want to scare anyone, but with the circumstances we are facing right now, We would like to inform you that one of the Island’s visitors has lost his life, and we are still looking for what had happened. We have a team out there, investigating what had cost a precious life to be gotten so early.”
There were gasps all around the place, all were making noises, asking for what really had happened to the man, but the four of us remained silent. My eyes slipped through Quinn’s back where the woman who had first seen the corpse of the man was seated, facing me.
Her eyes were swollen from crying, and she’s just staring somewhere, like she’s losing herself from what we have seen. I can’t blame her, I am also suffering the same way like she is right now, we’re both scared and caught off guard from what we have seen, but I already calmed myself a little, and am trying to be okay, just like Quinn.
“Hey. Are you alright?” Luna asked me as I got tensed up on my chair. I was still holding my phone and holding it with so much pressure.
That woman just… just grinned. She’s grinning, and glanced at me for a second, I saw that. What the hell? It’s giving me goosebumps all around my body.
I removed my glances at her and looked down on my hands, it’s shaking again. What the hell is wrong with everyone? They’re giving me chills.
I nodded as an answer, even though I am not. I am more than scared with these people around me. People are way scarier than that corpse. They were all looking at me like that, and they seemed to be making it so obvious, and letting me see it every time. First it was Luna who stared at me like that, then this woman speaking in front, and lastly, this woman across from me. They all seemed to have a problem with me which I don't have any knowledge about.
I closed my eyes for a brief second, and my eyes landed on Quinn, who was looking at me. But his gaze went down, towards my hands which I traced with my eyes. He’s looking at my phone, and his gaze shifted to my eyes again, and then to Luna, and back at me. And I think he made sure that I was following him. But I don’t get it. What are you trying to say? Why can’t you just tell me? I am not good with guessing games.
“So as of the moment, we would like you to stay in your rooms, until further notice. We will inform you once we have finished the investigation. And to finish that faster, we need your full cooperation for this important matter as we don’t want this to happen again. Not in our watch.”
Not in your watch? I looked in front, towards her. You don’t have proper lighting on that part of the island, and most importantly, it’s the restroom where everyone needs to use, but right at that moment, when that thing happened, the only light that was open, had closed so suddenly, then you're telling us, not in your watch? My God. If I know, you people are behind this s**t. And based on Quinn’s observation, it must be really you people.
“And to the three witnesses, you might be asked to come with the investigation team to hear your side of the story, so might as well, prepare. That’s all. And you can go back to your rooms. We will provide all your needs, so just stay inside your rooms. Thank you.” Just like what he had told me earlier, they might really ask us something about the man’s death, but I don’t know what to say either.
Once again, she looked towards our direction before she went down from the stage. I really have a bad feeling about this place, about these people, and everything that surrounds me right now. I am so suffocated. I just want to be home right now.
“Let’s go.” Luna supported me to stand up, holding onto my shoulders. She’s already carrying her backpack on her left shoulder, which I still find weird, as she brought her laptop with her which I never saw her use.
“It’s alright. I can manage.” I really can manage to walk on my own. I had managed to get here from where it all happened, without Quinn supporting me. I can walk properly, and I can handle myself, and I am just too scared to be with someone right now.
I was still thinking about what Quinn had said to me earlier, when we were outside the restroom, waiting for them to collect the body of that man. “Do not trust anyone.”, and that was another piece of a puzzle that I couldn’t fix.
