On her eighteenth birthday, Evangeline expected a pack celebration and the embrace of her fated mate, Alpha Logan. Instead, she received a public nightmare. Caught in the arms of her treacherous stepsister, Chloe, Logan ruthlessly shatters their fated bond, strips Evangeline of her rank, and banishes her into the freezing expanse of the Forbidden Forest to die.

Freezing, broken-hearted, and bleeding, Evangeline prepares for death. But her blood awakens something ancient in the frozen soil, drawing the attention of King Alistair, the cold, merciless Lycan Monarch who rules the realm with an iron fist and loathes ordinary wolves.

When Alistair finds the dying omega, he raises his blade to end her. But the moment his skin touches hers, the universe shifts. A blinding gold light erupts, sealing them in the Imperial Bond, a rare, primal mate connection that overrules all previous rejections.

Now, the girl who was left to die in the snow is carried into the obsidian castle as the chosen Queen. As Evangeline's rare, dormant powers begin to awaken, Logan realizes he threw away the most powerful wolf in history. He wants her back. But the Lycan King does not share his toys, and he will burn the entire werewolf kingdom to the ground to keep her.

Chapter 1
The heavy, suffocating scent of roasted stag, spilled ale, and cheap vanilla perfume drifted across the packhouse grounds, but all Evangeline could focus on was the erratic, deafening thumping of her own heart. Today was her eighteenth birthday. It was the one date she had circled in red ink on her cracked plastic calendar for the past three years. Today was the day her inner wolf would finally awaken from its long dormancy, and more importantly, it was the day she would officially be announced as Alpha Logan’s fated mate. They had been childhood sweethearts, hiding in the shadows of the old willow tree by the river, whispering promises of a brighter future. Logan had promised her a thousand times, his hands holding hers in the dark, that the very moment she turned eighteen, he would seal their bond before the entire pack. He had promised to lift her out of the damp, freezing omega quarters, away from the endless psychological cruelty of her stepmother and stepsister. He was supposed to be her savior. Eva took a deep, shaky breath, smoothing down the front of her simple, faded cotton dress. The fabric was thin and fraying at the edges, a stark contrast to the luxurious silks worn by the higher-ranking pack members. Her stepmother, Victoria, had explicitly refused to buy her a new gown for the annual Selection Ceremony, claiming that an omega didn't deserve to waste pack resources. But Eva hadn't let the bitter words ruin her mood. She didn't care about expensive jewelry or silk dresses. Logan loved her for who she was, not her rank. He knew how hard she worked, how she scrubbed the packhouse floors until her knuckles bled, and how she endured the constant sneers of the pack members. Soon, none of that would matter. Soon, she would be standing by his side as his rightful mate. Suddenly, without warning, a violent, blinding spike of heat shot directly through Eva’s veins, making her gasp aloud. She stumbled against the rough stone wall of the packhouse, clutching her chest as her vision suddenly sharpened to an impossible degree. The world around her shifted from dull tones to brilliant, hyper-vivid colors. The distant chatter of the pack members sounded as clear as if they were whispering right into her ear. Then, a beautiful, silver-furred voice, resonant and deep, echoed inside her mind. I am here, Evangeline. We are awake at last. Tears of pure joy pricked the corners of Eva’s hazel eyes. Her wolf had finally arrived! She wasn't defective. She wasn't the broken, useless omega everyone claimed she was. And along with the magnificent awakening of her wolf came a sudden, overwhelming explosion of sensory information. Her nose twitched as she caught a scent cutting through the heavy smell of the pack feast, an intoxicating, rich aroma of dark chocolate and sharp winter mint. Logan. The scent was incredibly powerful, hitting her like a physical wave and drawing her toward the Pack Administration building like a magnet. Her heart swelled with an emotion so intense it bordered on pain. Her wolf was howling in celebration, recognizing its other half. Smiling brightly, her spirit lighter than it had been in years, Eva lifted the hem of her faded dress and practically floated up the grand stone steps of the alpha wing. She expected to find him preparing his speech, perhaps pacing nervously in his office. She wanted to surprise him. She wanted to tell him that they were finally, truly whole. As she walked down the long, carpeted corridor of the top floor, the scent of chocolate and mint grew stronger, almost dizzying. As she approached the Alpha’s private office, she noticed that the heavy, gold-trimmed oak door was slightly ajar. A faint, low sound drifted into the hallway, one that made her footsteps falter. It sounded like a gasp, followed by a deep, low growl that she recognized all too well. "Logan?" Eva called out softly, her voice trembling slightly with a sudden, unexplainable knot of anxiety tightening in her stomach. She pushed the door open completely, stepping into the room. "Logan, my wolf just woke up! I can smell you, I can—" The words died in her throat, dissolving into a silent, choking horror. The bright afternoon sunlight spilling through the massive floor-to-ceiling office windows illuminated a sight that instantly shattered Eva’s world into a million jagged, bleeding pieces. Logan, her sweet, protective childhood sweetheart, the newly crowned Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, had his large, powerful hands gripped tightly around the waist of another woman. He had her pinned ruthlessly against the edge of his massive mahogany desk, his head buried greedily in the crook of her neck, leaving dark, dark red marks on her skin. The woman let out a breathless, mocking giggle, tilting her head back to look directly at the doorway. It was Chloe. Eva’s stepsister. Chloe wasn't surprised to see her. In fact, her sharp green eyes gleamed with a cold, triumphant malice. She didn't push Logan away; instead, she arched her back, digging her manicured nails into Logan's broad shoulders, ensuring that Eva saw every single second of their intimacy. Eva staggered backward, her hands flying to her mouth as the air was violently forced from her lungs. It felt as though someone had driven a physical blade straight through her sternum. The silver wolf inside her mind let out a deafening, agonizing wail, thrashing against the sudden, agonizing betrayal. "L-Logan...?" Eva whispered, her voice barely a thread. Logan froze at the sound of her voice. He slowly, deliberately pulled his face away from Chloe’s neck. He straightened his posture, turning his tall, athletic frame around to face Evangeline. As Eva searched his striking blue eyes for a glimmer of regret, panic, or guilt, she found absolutely nothing. There was no remorse in his gaze. There was only a cold, clinical, and completely detached indifference that made Eva feel utterly exposed and insignificant. Chloe slid off the edge of the desk with practiced grace, smoothing down the front of her incredibly expensive, custom-made crimson silk gown, the very gown Eva had spent the last three weeks washing and ironing for her. Chloe adjusted her hair, a smug, venomous smirk spreading across her brightly painted lips as she looked down her nose at the trembling omega. Before Eva could even begin to process the violent, soul-crushing agony ripping through her newly awakened mate bond, Logan tightened his jaw and adjusted the cuffs of his Alpha uniform shirt. He looked at her not as a lover, not as a friend, but as an annoying insect that had interrupted his schedule. "I'm glad you're here, Evangeline," Logan said, his voice entirely devoid of the warmth, kindness, and affection he had showered her with in secret for years. It was the voice of a ruthless ruler addressing a peasant. "It saves me the trouble of having to go down to the servants' quarters to look for you. We need to talk, and we need to do it now." Eva felt a cold drop of sweat trace its way down her spine. The words felt like physical slaps. "Talk?" she managed to whisper, her throat so dry it felt like sandpaper. "Logan... what is this? You promised me. Today is my birthday. My wolf... she just woke up. She recognized you. We are fated." Chloe stepped forward, her heels clicking aggressively against the hardwood floor. "Fated? Don't be pathetic, Evangeline. Do you really think a powerful, newly crowned Alpha like Logan would saddle himself with a broken, weak little omega who spent her life scrubbing floors? A pack needs a strong Luna. They need someone with a noble bloodline, someone who can command respect and bring wealth to the territory. You bring nothing but shame and dust." "Logan, tell her she's wrong," Eva begged, ignoring her stepsister entirely. She kept her eyes locked onto Logan's, desperate to find even a trace of the boy who used to share his jacket with her when the winters grew too cold. "Tell her you love me." Logan didn't blink. He reached onto his desk, picking up a leather folder, refusing to look her in the eyes as he opened it. "Chloe is right, Evangeline. The pack politics have changed. My father's passing left our borders vulnerable. I cannot afford to follow the foolish fairy tales of fated mates. I need an alliance. I need strength. Victoria and Chloe have the backing of the southern elders. You are a sweet girl, but you are a liability. The bond is a mistake, and I am correcting it before it ruins my reputation." The coldness in his voice was absolute, snapping the final threads of hope in her chest. Eva felt her knees grow weak as she gripped the doorframe just to remain standing. The silver wolf inside her mind curled into a tight, weeping ball, feeling the sudden, chilling withdrawal of the soulmate connection. Logan walked right past her toward the open balcony, leaving her alone with her breaking heart and her stepsister’s vicious grin.
