6:30 pm.
The cold wind blew gently against my hair as I walked to where Layla was waiting for me. She was putting on a white cross neck dress and her hair was neatly done. She leaned onto the wall as she held her phone in her hand.
"Let's go" I said to her as I got to where she was.
"Hmm, you look dangerous in black" she complemented as she looked at me for a while.
"Skip the flattering and let's get going or we're gonna be late" I said to her before she picked her bag hanging on the lamp ok the wall and we headed to the party.
The building where the party was being held was a very large one indeed, had two floors, no doubt that the lower floor had the ball room where the party was to be held.
We arrived there and we met with the security at the entrance who directed us to where we would firstly write our names before going into the line. We wrote out names and went to the line.
The line was where the mate finding thing would actually happen. The girls would line up while the boys would come forward one by one sniffing on each one to detect his mate. The mate bond would be very sharp and both the male and female would smell each other thus detecting themselves as mate.
I was six people away from the front and it was almost my turn. Soon it got to Layla's turn and the first guy came forward, he sniffed on her and walked away, the second came and went, the third, fourth and lastly the fifth who sniffed on her and left no time in marking her right there.
After they had left, I stepped forward and after the remaining boys there sniffed me, they walked away.
"Sorry, maybe you could wait a little" the lady at the desk told me. "Enjoy the party" she said again and I left that spot heading into the party.
The hall was beautiful and very delightful. The walls had a wooden touch, the candlesticks lamps of different patterns which were attached to the walls and ceiling added a natural atmosphere of beauty to the hall.
I entered and having nothing to do, I walked to where the drink was served to get a glass of red wine.
"Hello there" someone said to me from from beside as I told the waiter the wine I wanted.
I pretended not to hear him not even sparing a glance with him. He seemed nevertheless persistent though, quite serious about striking a conversation with me.
"Good evening beautiful" he said again waving his hand in front of my face to draw my attention.
"Evening" I replied him knowing fully well that I wouldn't want to be rude to the first stranger who would want to strike a conversation with me in this foreign pack.
"You're here for the mate matching party?" He asked me as he turned facing me.
"Yeah, why else would i be here if not that" I replied him.
"Hmm, well not everyone here actually has not been mated, some are here just for the fun of it" he said to me and I looked around, truly three were some that didn't look new, rather more familier with the atmosphere.
"I guess so" I replied nodding my head. The person serving the drinks brought my drink and I took it. "Thanks for the kind gesture" in said to him before wanting to walk away.
"Wait a minute" he said to me. It seemed the person serving also coincidentally brought his own wine too. "What's your name by the way?" He asked me.
"Paisley Taylor" I replied him with a smile.
"I'm Axel Borg the Beta of the pack" he said to me with quite little pride.
"Which pack?" I asked being surprised that the dude before me is actually the Beta of a pack.
"Nightshade Nook of course. Bet you're quite surprised huh, I could offer you a dance here you know" he said with a warm intruding smile.
"My dad's the Beta of the silver summit pack, I wouldn't assume that s something strange. Nice truck though!" I said to him.
"Damn! Couldn't be quite nicer. How about the dance, would you at least spare me for that, just for friendship sake" he said pleading but still maintaining his dignity.
"Axel Holm just quit the act and stop begging for a dance you won't get in a thousand years" I said to him with much seriousness.
"s**t, it's been nine years already and you still remember me, nice memory" he said taking a sip of his wine.
"You may have increased in height but you still have the facial features of your dad, off course I would remember you for sure" I replied him.
"You mean being handsome right, you could say I inherited it from my dad especially, including my sparking eyes" he said with a
salient smile.
"Stop being narcissistic. The Alpha must really have a hard time with your problems and games, it's a good thing he hasn't chopped your head off already" I replied him with a snarky tone.
"Ahh don't bring that up. I specifically came down here to get away from that perilous nerd." He said with a funny discontented face. "You didn't find your mate yet did you?"
He asked me.
"Nah, guess I'll have to wait longer" I replied him.
"Not bad. I could introduce you to some important guys around here, also you can get used to the pack for the mean time, it'll be helpful for you" he advised me.
"Yeah I know. I take a seat there" I said pointing to one of the arranged tables." I'm tired of standing" I said again.
"You wouldn't spare me that dance would ya?" He asked me in a pleading tone.
"Like I said, not in a millennial" I replied him.
I turned about to head to where I would sit, but suddenly I was jammed by a staff who was holding a tray of wine. The wine spilled over my dress as the waiter fell, I stumbled a few feet about to fall when I felt a hand encircle round my waist gently thus preventing me from falling to the ground.
"I saved you, shouldn't you change your mind for a dance" Axel asked me with a smile.
Before I could pout the atmosphere became cold, so cold as ice that I started to shiver so badly tht my feet almost went numb.
"What do you think you're doing!" I heard a cold voice from upstairs shout with such domineering authority that everyone was scared to look up.
"s**t" I heard Axel curse as he let go of me carefully. Before I could look up i felt a cold wind brush past me and the next thing in saw was a hand lifting up Axel from the ground and holding him upwards with his neck.
"You have quite the guts to touch what's not yours" I heard him say.
"No Alpha, it's a misunderstanding, I was only helping her from falling" Axel said in a cracked voice which I could feel was filled with fear.
"Better be!" He said leaving Axel to drop to the ground making a loud thump. He turned his face facing me and I could only see his cold blue emerald eyes, I stared at him with mixed emotions which I controlled.
He sped to me with his Alpha speed and holding me by the shoulder, he teleported the both of us out of the hall.
