Deans Pov:
After that little situation, we had all decided that it would be best to leave Scarlett and Ben alone so that they would be able to get to know each other.
"you don't look as sad as I thought you would be." says the man named Henry as he smokes a cigarette.
"We weren't in love, to begin with, so it just feels like a canceled event in between two friends," I say as I sit against the wall.
When we all split up to give those two room, I walked to the backyard and sat on a bench against the wall. Henry followed me with the excuse that he needed to smoke a cigarette in order to calm down.
from what?
I have no idea, he was probably still shocked about what had just happened.
He sighs as he puts his head down and then he scratches his cheek. "damn it" he says to himself as he shakes his cigarette with his thumb.
"Something wrong?" I ask trying to make conversation.
he looks at me as he smiles slightly. "I don't know what I'm going to do about Skye and Ben, they have never been separated. not even from birth, and if I leave with Skye both of them won't like it at all." he scratches his head. "this is going to be tough."
"why don't you just try to convince her that it's for the best?" I say as he turns to look at me with a tired expression.
"no, you don't understand. she's not going to leave him." he says as he leans on the wall. "that girl only thinks about her brother."
After making small talk with Henry I quickly walked into the packhouse in order to find my parents. Luckily for me, I found them in the living room talking to each other as they sat on a couch.
"So how are we going to explain this to grandpa?" I ask as they both look at me with a worried expression.
"We don't know." my father says as he sighs. "It looks like we are going to have to find a way to fix your grandfather's situation with the company by ourselves."
"he's going to be so angry." my mother says as she looks at the floor.
"what about finding someone else for me to marry?" I ask as they both look up at me.
"that won't happen." my father says as he leans back on the couch. "Alpha Stephen is not going to let you marry someone who isn't your mate."
"so what if he doesn't like the idea?" I ask as I sit on a couch across from them. "it's not like he can stop the wedding from ever happening." I say as I look at my parents look at each other with a troubled expression. "or can he?" I ask as I sit up straight on the couch.
"the law perfectly states that one can not marry someone who is not their mate until they are thirty years old." my mother says as she crosses her arms.
"what why?"
"because at the age of thirty, it is safe to think that your mate is dead. since many meet their other half at an early age." my father says as he looks at me with a blank expression.
we all look at different places as we try to think about a solution for this problem.
Not even a minute passes before we hear something fall from behind me.
I turn to look behind me and I see the girl named Skye trying to grab onto a vase so that it won't fall.
after a few seconds, she finally manages to put the vase back on the table where it was, without breaking it and she sighs out of relief.
All of us continue to look at her as she pulls her hair behind her ears and breathes out.
She turns to look at us and she freezes for a second before she turns her eyes away from us and she puts her hands on her forehead as she looks again.
she looks away from us after a second and then she nods her head as she claps her hands together. "that's why!" she says as she smiles at a wall.
"sweetheart, are you alright?" my mother asks nervously. "do you want to come and sit with us?"
Skye looks at my mother with a troubled expression as she tries to smile. "Umm... I don't want to bother so..." she says taking a step back.
"oh, it's alright! you aren't bothering at all" my mother says getting up from the couch as she pulls Skye towards the couches and makes her sit next to me.
My father turns to look at my mother confused as she smiles at him and then at me.
'well, this is awkward.'
"sweetheart, what is your name?" my mother asks as she looks at Skye who is now sitting at the very corner of the couch.
"it's Skye," she says as she looks at my mother and quickly looks away.
"Skye, what a beautiful name." my mother says as she moves closer to my father. "Don't you think honey?" she asks as she wraps her arms around my dad's left arm.
"yes it is." my father says contently with a smile on his face.
a moment of silence in between all of us passes and then out of nowhere Skye gets up from the couch "I should really go!" she says panicking.
"oh sweetheart please sit!" my mother says as she gently pushes Skye towards the couch for her to sit again. "I'm sorry if we made you feel uncomfortable." my mother says as she sits back down.
"It's not you..." she says as she turns to look at me for about a second before she looks away again as quickly as she can.
'how am I making her uncomfortable?'
"are you going to be okay?" my mother asks Skye, catching the attention of all of us.
"what do you mean?" Skye asks as she looks at my mother confused.
"well, your brother found his mate. Aren't you worried about being separated from him?" my mom asks with a sad expression on her face.
knowing my mother, my father and I look at each other as we realize why she called over Skye.
My mom is one of those people that worry for others without realizing it. She is what one calls a person with the heart of a chicken.
Not because she isn't brave but because she worries over anything, even for the smallest things.
Skye looks at my mother confused and then says "why would we get separated? Isn't the girl coming with us?"
we all look at her with pure shock "she's someone with a big company. the heir to the family business of her family, do you really think she'll go with you and your brother and leave all of that behind?" I ask her as she looks at me with an irritated facial expression.
"so what? her aunt could have stayed with her whole family in the human world but she ended up following her husband. why can't she do that too?" She asks as she leans back on the couch. "or are you saying that my brother is not worth following?"
my mom looks at me with a troubled expression and I could almost hear her telling me to shut up with her eyes.
"I'm not..."
"If she wants him she'll have to follow him. If he wants her, he will have to follow her." she says interrupting me. "at the end that is something that they are going to have to decide. If Ben wants to stay then I'll support his decision without asking questions." she says as she looks at my mother. "If that's what you are asking me then that's my answer."
"So in other words you are saying that if you love someone then to let them go." my father says as he smiles at Skye and then at my mother.
"Actually," Skye says as she puts her left leg over her right and leans her head on her right arm for support "I'm saying that if he wants to leave me again then I won't stop him. I'm used to it anyways."
The moment she says those words, I begin to feel some tension coming from her and I'm sure my parents can feel it too.
I look over at my parents and I see my father look pale as he stares at something that's behind me.
I turn to look at what my father is looking at and I see her brother Ben with Scarlett next to him as he stares at Skye with a pale expression.
