Chapter 2 I grew up in upper-class Atlanta with a family that could be traced back to their arrival in colonial Virginia. Ancestors on both sides played a major role in the founding of Atlanta. My mother was infatuated with genealogy research and took great pride in the family tree she traced back to 1300 England. She spent many hours compiling the research and expounding on the details at numerous social gatherings.
