The Second Meeting

Chapter Three I stood outside the sleek, modern office building, my heart racing with anticipation. The second meeting with Matteo De Luca was about to begin, and I couldn't help but wonder what he had planned. My father had briefed me on what to expect, but I knew that with Matteo, nothing was ever certain. He was a man who liked to keep people on their toes, and I was determined to be prepared. As I stepped into the elevator, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. I was ready for this. I was ready to face whatever Matteo had in store for me. The elevator doors opened, and I stepped out into a luxurious penthouse office. Matteo was standing by the window, looking out over the city. He turned as I approached, a smile spreading across his face. "Alessia, you're punctual," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I like that." I smiled back, feeling a sense of confidence. "I wouldn't want to keep you waiting, Matteo," I replied. Matteo chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I think we're going to get along just fine, Alessia," he said, gesturing to a chair in front of his desk. As I sat down, Matteo began to outline his proposal. It was a business deal that seemed too good to be true, and I couldn't help but wonder what the catch was. But as Matteo spoke, I found myself becoming more and more intrigued. This was a chance to make a real difference, to leave my mark on the world. And with Matteo's guidance, I knew I could make it happen. As the meeting drew to a close, Matteo leaned forward, his eyes locked onto mine. "So, Alessia, what do you say?" he asked, his voice low and persuasive. "Are you in?" I hesitated, weighing my options. But as I looked into Matteo's eyes, I knew what I had to do. "I'm in," I said, my voice firm. Matteo smiled, his eyes gleaming with triumph. "I knew you'd see it my way, Alessia," he said, extending his hand. As I shook it, I felt a sense of excitement mixed with trepidation. Did I just get myself into something I can’t walk back from? I felt a sense of finality. I had made a decision, and now I had to live with it. But as I turned to leave, I noticed a figure standing in the shadows. He was tall and imposing, with piercing green eyes that seemed to bore into my soul. "Alessia, this is Luca," Matteo said, his voice low. "He's my...associate. He'll be working with us on the project." I nodded, feeling a sense of unease. There was something about Luca that didn't quite add up. He seemed...dangerous. As we began to discuss the details of the project, I realised that Luca was more than just an associate. He was Matteo's right-hand man, and he seemed to have a deep understanding of the inner workings of Matteo's business. But as the meeting progressed, I started to notice that Luca seemed to be watching me, his eyes lingering on me in a way that made me feel uncomfortable. I tried to brush it off, but I couldn't shake the feeling that he was hiding something. As the meeting drew to a close, Matteo stood up, a smile on his face. "I think we've made a good start, Alessia," he said. "Let's get to work." I nodded, feeling a sense of determination. I was in this now, and I was going to see it through. But as I turned to leave, I caught Luca's eye, and for a moment, I thought I saw something there, something that looked almost like...warning. I frowned, feeling a sense of confusion. What was going on? And what did Luca want from me? As I left the office building, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was in over my head. The project seemed complex, and I wasn't sure if I was ready for it. But I was determined to prove myself, to show Matteo and Luca that I was capable. I took a deep breath, feeling a sense of resolve. I would do whatever it took to make this project a success, even if it meant facing my fears and doubts head-on. As I made my way to my car, I noticed a figure following me. It was Luca. He seemed to be watching me, his eyes fixed on me with an intensity that made me feel uncomfortable. "Can I help you?" I asked, trying to sound confident. Luca smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I just wanted to talk to you, Alessia," he said, his voice low. "About the project." I raised an eyebrow, feeling a sense of curiosity. "What about it?" I asked. Luca leaned against the car next to mine, his eyes never leaving mine. "I think you should be careful, Alessia," he said, his voice serious. "Matteo's not always... straightforward. He's got a lot of interests, and sometimes they conflict." I frowned, feeling a sense of unease. What was Luca trying to tell me? Was he warning me away from Matteo, or was he just trying to stir up trouble? "What do you mean?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. Luca's expression was unreadable. "Just be careful, okay?" he said. "You're in this deep now. Don't let Matteo use you for his gain." “And what makes you think I can trust anything you say you being is right-hand man?” I said trying to get the whole point of his paranoia. “You don’t have to trust me, trust your gut. He said as he leaned closer towards me. “And you and I know darn well you aren’t sure about him.” I nodded, feeling a sense of determination. I would be careful, all right. I would make sure that I came out on top, no matter what. As Luca turned to leave, I called out to him. "Luca, wait," I said. He turned back to me, his eyes questioning. "Yes?" "What's your stake in this?" I asked, my voice firm. "Why are you warning me?" Luca's expression was unreadable, but for a moment, I thought I saw something there, something that looked almost like...anger. "Let's just say I have my reasons," he said, turning to leave. I watched him go, feeling a sense of unease. I’m still yet to find out what Matteo and my father’s intentions are.
