The Unexpected Invite

Chapter Four I drove home with so much tension in my chest wondering what Matteo’s and my father’s plan was for me. Why would his right-hand man tell me to be careful about him? What kind of man is he? I got home and bolted to my room. I took off my heels and sat at my desk, staring at the stack of papers in front of me. Took the project out from my bag where I previously keep it. The project was starting to take shape, and I was determined to make sure it was a success. But as I worked, my mind kept wandering back to Luca's warning. What did he mean? Just as I was starting to get lost in thought, my phone rang. It was Matteo. "Alessia, I have a proposition for you," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I'm hosting a charity gala tonight, and I'd like you to be my guest." I hesitated, feeling a sense of unease. I wasn't sure if I was ready to be seen in public with Matteo, especially after Luca's warning. But Matteo's voice was persuasive, and I found myself agreeing to attend. As I hung up the phone, I couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. What was I getting myself into? As the evening approached, I got ready, feeling a sense of nervousness. I put on a black evening gown, and my hair was styled perfectly. But as I looked in the mirror, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was playing with fire. I told my dad about the gala invitation and he sounded thrilled to hear and I Matteo already “bonding.” Told me I should wear the best dress I could find because I should always come out to impress. What does he mean by that? I know he’s trying to uphold our family reputation, especially in the eyes of the De Lucas but this? It sounded fishy. I wore a black glittery dress, that had my cleavage showing with a very dramatic slit by the bottom side of the dress. Had my brown hair dropped down and parted side and a very bold make-up on my face. Had this black channel bag my dad ordered just because of the gala and a Tomford heels. I did indeed dress to impress without even knowing. When I arrived at the gala, Matteo was waiting for me. He looked handsome in his tuxedo, and he smiled as he took my hand. "You look stunning, Alessia," he said, his voice low. I smiled back, feeling a sense of gratitude and confidence—I know I did. But as we mingled with the guests, I couldn't help but notice that Luca was watching us from across the room. His eyes seemed to bore into mine, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. What was going on? And what did Luca want from me? As the night wore on, I found myself getting more and more caught up in the glamour of the gala. But beneath the surface, I knew that there was more to this night than met the eye. What was Matteo's true intention? And what did Luca have to do with it? As the night wore on, I found myself becoming more and more entrenched in the world of high society. Matteo's charm was infectious, and I found myself laughing and smiling alongside him. But I knew that there was more to this night than met the eye. Suddenly, Luca appeared at my side, his eyes blazing with intensity. "Alessia, we need to talk," he said, his voice low and urgent. I excused myself from Matteo's side, feeling a sense of trepidation. As we stepped outside into the cool night air, Luca turned to me, his eyes burning with a fierce intensity. "Alessia, you're playing with fire," he said, his voice low and menacing. "Matteo's not what you think he is. He's using you for his gain, and he'll stop at nothing to get what he wants." I felt a surge of anger and defensiveness. How dare Luca try to warn me away from Matteo? "I can take care of myself," I said, my voice firm. But Luca's words struck a chord deep within me. I knew that I was taking a risk by getting involved with Matteo, but I couldn't help myself. I was drawn to him like a moth to a flame. As we stood there, the tension between us was palpable. Luca's eyes seemed to bore into mine, and I felt a sense of vulnerability. Suddenly, he reached out and grasped my arm, his fingers wrapping around me like a vice. "Listen to me, Alessia," he said, his voice low and urgent. "You're in danger. Matteo's world is not a safe place to be." “And the hell do you care?” I said still trying to sound firm. “I don’t. I have just seen things I wouldn’t even wish for my worst enemy.” I felt a shiver run down my spine as I looked into his eyes. What did Luca know that I didn't? And what was he trying to warn me about? As I stood there, frozen in uncertainty, Matteo appeared at our side, his eyes flashing with anger. "Luca, what's going on?" he asked, his voice low and menacing. Luca's grip on my arm tightened, and I felt a surge of fear. What was happening? Who was I supposed to trust? Matteo's eyes seemed to bore into Luca's, and the air was thick with tension. "Nothing, Matteo," Luca said, his voice neutral. "Just discussing the project." Matteo's gaze lingered on Luca's face, then shifted to me. "I think it's time for us to leave," he said, his voice smooth. I nodded, feeling a sense of relief. The tension between Luca and Matteo was palpable, and I was starting to feel like a pawn in their game. As we walked away, Luca's words echoed in my mind. "You're in danger." What did he mean? And what was Matteo's true intention? As we drove away from the gala, Matteo's phone rang. He answered, his expression darkening. "What is it?" he barked. I watched him, feeling a sense of unease. Who was on the other end of the line, and what did they want? Matteo's face twisted in anger, and he slammed his fist on the dashboard. "This isn't over," he growled. I felt a surge of fear. What was happening? And what was Matteo involved in? The car screeched to a halt, and Matteo turned to me, his eyes blazing with intensity. "We need to get out of here," he said, his voice low and urgent. I didn't know what was going on, but I knew I had to trust him. Or did I?
