Lilac had spent her time, deep into the afternoon, marshalling her troops and setting the investigation of the Archives murder and Barmy’s assassination onto the right path. She called Swallow into her new and well-ordered office, gestured for him to take a seat and briefed him more fully than she had the team. She reaffirmed she wanted him as her bag man. Swallow had reflected on her earlier offer and was pleased it had not been a heat of the moment gesture. Lilac went on to say that it could be dangerous, as if he didn’t already know that, but when Lilac said it out loud and with her serious face on, it sent a shiver down his spine. She noticed and was okay if he was fearful, he will need to have his wits about him.
