“Mom”
“Is it looking good?”
I turned around with my knee length frock. It was looking good, not on me. I’ve seen myself in pants and shirts most of the time. So, I didn’t know if I was good enough to dress up like a prom.
She turned around pausing her makeup.
“Awh!”
“Honey! You look like a girl”
I flustered my brows at her.
“Are you kidding me?”
She chuckled.
“It looks really great”
“Pink suits you”
She smiled.
I exhaled and looked myself in the mirror once again. It was a peter pan collar, beautiful creamy pink and buttons piled up straight on the back.
“Okay, it’s fine for a day”
My mom kept some accessories on the table to wear ‘em. I took the pendant and wore it around my neck. I combed my shoulder-lengthed hair good and I pinned it on the side. I applied my moisturiser and lip balm.
Not more. I wore my sneakers.
“Mom!”
“I’m ready!”
“You’re not a Victoria’s secret model to change for so long!”
She backed up from her room.
“I’ll kick you up when I come out!”
I chuckled.
I laid on the couch with my phone. I was in. All of a sudden, I smelled something bad. Bad like a dead body. It smelled rotten. I got up and looked around. But there was no one and there wasn’t anything that smells like a dead body. I slouched back.
After a while, my mom showed up. She smelled like that of a chocolate. She wore blue white semi-formal with a tuck in and heeled sandals with thin straps. She had her beautiful diamond necklace that my dad presented her during their wedding.
“Hey mom”
“Lookin’ great!”
She chuckled and made a shy face. I rolled of my eyes from her.
“Can we go?”
She looked at her vintage Titan watch.
“Yep!”
“It’s 6 already!”
I took my phone a started my way out. We got in the car and it was filled with a chocolate smell.
“Hmm mom, you smell really good”
She started the engine.
“Uh-huh?”
I smiled. She was always beautiful as far as I’ve seen her from my birth. She had a pretty face, a beautiful smile and a really healthy look. I realized the reason my dad fell for her.
But she missed something since my father died. She lost her charm.
We got to the party in less than an hour. I must be lonely ‘cause my mom would be busy with her clients while I gotta sit with no one wandering my eyes.
We got off the car and my mom parked the car. The house was quite big for a party. There was a swimming pool and there were bunch of humans on that. I wondered why they’d be in a pool at night.
I heard footsteps at my back. She kissed me on my forehead.
“Let’s go”
“I think I wouldn’t catch up with you”
“Make sure you’re not suffocating”
“Don’t get lost honey”
I smiled and we walked to the threshold. There were lotta people who were staring at me. It made me anxious.
We were standing on the living room with our present beside the birthday main. We wished them and moved to the seating area. There were some of my mum’s friends. But I liked none of them as they were too old and matured for me.
I sat on a chair far from these noises. I looked at the people who were dancing.
Someone tapped my shoulder from the back. I gasped.
It was Anakin.
“Hey Anakin!”
“You’re here?”
He smiled and nodded.
“It’s my niece”
I chuckled. I was surprised to see him there. He looked great as always. He wore a formal suit in red, tied up like a business man.
“You look really great”
I chuckled. He smiled back and blushed down.
“Thank you”
“You look great in pink”
“Like a doll” he added.
I frowned.
“Owh!”
“Don’t compliment because I did!”
He looked back.
“No No”
“You really are great”
I smiled and nodded.
“Your aunt is my mom’s client”
He nodded.
“I see”
“It’s happy to see you here”
I nodded.
He scratched back his head and chuckled nervously.
“Uhm..”
“Can we eat together?”
I smiled and searched for my mom.
“Sure”
“But, lemme introduce you to my mom first”
I saw her far from my eyes, drinking with her friends.
I grabbed his fist and started walking towards my mom. I showed up in front of her with Anakin.
“Mom!”
“This is Anakin”
“My friend”
She stood up and smiled.
“Hey little gentleman”
We laughed.
He said laughin’.
“Hi!”
“Nice to meet you?”
My mom gasped.
“I’m sorry”
“I’m Petricia”
He smiled back.
“It’s great to see you Ms.Petricia”
I urged my mom.
“Mom!”
“Can I eat dinner with Anakin?”
She smiled.
“Yeah! Sure honey!”
I smiled.
We waved her and he took a way to the dining area. There were lot of dishes and cuisine. It was a self-system. We got in a que and he took two plates- one for me and the other for him.
Since I wasn’t in the mood to eat, I just carried some noodles and an orange juice.
“Enough?”
I nodded. We went on the dining area and sat on an empty table facing each other on the opposite.
I slurped on my noodles without a sound and he took a bite of his pizza.
“So?”
I frowned.
“So?”
He chuckled.
“What’s up lately?”
I sighed.
“I ain’t supposed to do gymnastic works”
He laughed.
“That is super supressing!”
I giggled.
“Not so funny Anakin!”
He tried to control his laughter. I rolled off my eyes. We had a casual conversation and some regarding our school topics and some about movies too.
I completed my noodles and I was sipping on my juice. I noticed him blushing at a girl far away from him.
“Isn’t she cute?” I mocked him.
“Hmm”
“What?!” he gasped.
I chuckled and patted him.
“It’s okay Anakin”
“I’m in your age and I can understand you”
We laughed. We cleaned up our plates and stacked them for washing. Then, we played some games- hide n seek, truth or dare, catch ‘o’ catch, whisper challenge, pass the train and lot more with other people of our age and younger.
The day had been fun.
“Charlotteee”
“It’s time to get home”
I heard my mom behind me.
I looked at my phone. It was 10 already.
“Yeah mom!”
“I’m coming!!”
I turned back to Anakin.
“I really had a good day Anakin!”
“I had so much fun!!”
He smiled.
“Me too!!”
I shook of my hand and did a friendship tag.
“Bye bye Anakin!”
He snickered.
“Bye bye Charlotte!”
I waved him off and got in the car with my mom.
