“Mum!" The brat called and hurried past me towards the red faced middle aged woman by the door.
“How dare you bump into the first lady? Are you blind?" He yelled at the old lady from earlier.
As if that was not enough, he raised his hand and brought it down on her face making her head swing violently to the side.
I held back a growl. How dare he hit a servant of the Royals?
I found myself moving forward when a hand held me back.
“Come with me." Conrad ordered and dragged me out of the sitting room, up the stairs and into another room.
“Tessa?" I breathed the moment I saw her bent over Blair's legs buckling her shoes.
She pursued her movement but got a knock on the head from Blair.
"Don't you dare try to ruin my party.” She ordered and I saw Tessa nod quickly.
"Look here boy.” Conrad pulled me to face him.
I frowned down at him.
"You are nothing but a disabled beggar, living off my wealth so you must know your place.” He poked my chest.
"After this party, you'll go back there and apologize to my in-laws-to-be for all the inconveniences you have caused since you stepped into this household.”
The space between my brow grew tighter.
"What did he do this time?” Emma asked from behind me.
"He had the guts to shout at the Dax.” Conrad responded.
"What?” Blair screamed from where she sat.
I turned to find an ugly scowl on her face.
"Go back there and apologize to him this instant.” She ordered me, her claw for a nail pointing towards the door.
"No.” I blurted.
"What did you just say?”
"I said I won't.” I hissed and got a punch to my side.
I still stood tall but when Tessa turned abruptly to look at me with worried eyes, I let myself fall to the ground.
"What was that just now? Were you pretending to be a cripple?”
"Draven? Are you okay?” Tessa called out to me before her father could probe any further.
"Get back here and continue your job you bitch.” Blair screeched.
I laid down there hating myself for being helpless and having to pretend to be who I was not.
“Daddy, make him go down there and kowtow to Dax." Blair whined.
“What if Dax doesn't want to be with me anymore after what this beggar had done?"
“Oh no Sweetheart. Don't talk that way. Dax can never live without you." Her mother cooed, their voices irritating my skin.
“With or without these nuisances, the party must go on and you'll definitely get married to Dax."
I sat up and watched their exchange while Tessa busied herself with making sure her sister looked good.
“And I forgot to inform you, the first lady is here."
I watched Tessa's back tense and I narrowed my eyes at that.
“What?"
“When?"
Both mother and daughter asked at the same time.
“Eerh…a few minutes before I brought this imbecile up here.”
I bit my tongue again to stop myself from worsening the situation.
"How could you, Darling? How could you not inform us on time? Shish!” Emma facepalmed before she began to clap quickly.
"Quick, quick, get everything ready. The party is about to begin in earnest." She barked her orders and pushed Tessa out of the way.
I watched them move around and soon Conrad was out of the room, followed by Emma.
Blair sat haughtily on the couch, her dress pink and sparkling as she threw her nose to the air.
“Come on Tessa. Sing for me."
“No, no. There's no time for that princess." Her mother breezed in, giving me a nasty look before turning to face her daughter.
“It's time to present yourself to the guests and our in-laws-to-be." She said gently as she took her daughter's hand and gently guided her up.
I watched Tessa look down at her feet even as they walked past her and intentionally kicked my supposed bad leg.
The moment they left through the door, she sank down on her heels.
“And don't forget to present yourself in an hour with your sorry state of a husband to greet my guests." Emma said the moment she rushed back in.
Tessa nodded, her eyes brimming with tears.
Emma hissed and walked back out and soon, the loud chatter stopped and a slow melody began.
“Tessa?" I breathed her name, my stomach grumbling in hunger at the speedily increased scent of her blood.
She looked up at me, sniffling. Then suddenly, her eyes widened and for some reason, I felt my hunger cease for a moment.
What if she was still afraid of a monster like me?
“You…are you fine?” She asked in a shaky voice as she lifted herself up the ground and rushed towards me.
I swallowed and my stomach grumbled loudly again making her pause in her steps.
"You are still hungry. Aren't you?” She asked, blinking the tears away from her eyes.
I gave a single nod and she nodded back before stalking towards me.
The moment she was close enough, she bared her neck to my lips.
"You can eat.” Her voice quivered.
"You aren't afraid anymore?”
"I did a deep research about your kind.” She tightened her lips.
"I don't mind.” She completed and got back to baring her neck to me.
My vision turned red and my fangs pushed against my lips as I resisted the urge to let out a growl and pull her to myself.
'The moment you drink directly from her neck, consider yourself mated to her.’
I clamped my mouth closed.
What was the djinn talking about?
“Go on." Tessa urged me, her body trembling lightly.
‘You are a royal and royals do not drink directly from the neck of human maidens.’
“And if I do?" I asked.
“Huh." Tessa turned to look at me and I held her gaze.
'You become soulmates. A bond that cannot be broken unless one of you is dead.’
I clenched my jaws.
“Is anything the matter Draven?" She asked, her eyes wide with fear.
'You'll get to feel all her emotions but because she is just a human, she won't feel yours.’
'Are you ready to get your soul bonded to a human girl?’
I felt my joints begin to quiver.
I need to feed, else I might pass out from hunger.
“Stay back." My voice shook.
I was beginning to convulse.
“No…you need to feed. Please take a sip. I promise I won't scream.” She pleaded hurriedly as she exposed her neck together with her shoulder this time.
"No!” I growled.
Why do I get this hungry only when she is here?
'Fate.' The djinn responded and I jerked.
“Draven!" Tessa screamed and tried to stop me from falling over.
“Here, drink. Please." She pleaded.
“If you die from starvation, my sister's engagement party will get called off and I will end up being punished again."
She shuddered the moment she mentioned punishment and I gripped her shoulders, making sure not to let my claws elongate.
“Will you love me then?” I blurted in-between pants.
