The Chief Superintendent wasn’t someone to be trifled with. He certainly wasn’t prepared to tread water while the eggheads played mad scientist. Women were being killed and if the police appeared to be sitting back and doing nothing that wouldn’t be perceived by the public as protecting them.
Although Richard was pleased that his boss shared his feelings about proactive investigation, he was concerned about the CS’s plan to use a female police officer as bait. Whoever this killer was, he was very efficient and the DI had a nagging feeling that this wouldn’t end well. Chief Superintendent Williams was insistent.
“Look, Richard, I know that this cloning thing was your idea –“
Richard interrupted.
“Not strictly speaking, sir.”
