I have lived with Athena for almost a year. It was getting easier for me to deal with my emotions day by day, and the witch was weakening her spell from month to month. At first, Haizi was furious, she wanted to take my place right away, but she was too weak. We slowly renewed our contact and trust in each other. She promised me that she would never do something like that again, and I promised that we would never be powerless again.
Athena was a great support throughout my recovery. She looked after me, fed me, forced me to leave the house and even taught me how to make potions for various ailments. She showed me that not everyone in the world is bad.
After some time, I started going with her to the people she was helping. I even saved the girl herself, who was a young witch and was bitten by a vampire. I managed to remove all the venom from her body and not risk losing her powers and turning into a vampire. Her mother was so grateful that she gave me the necklace she conjured up. It was supposed to protect me from bad people. It was silver, with a small pendant of a wolf and a moon.
Several times I saw a golden glow surrounding the necklace when I woke up. Since I had him, I never had nightmares, and Haz was extremely calm. My foster grandmother told me it was the effect of the happiness and relief magic that was put into him in his creation.
I liked living in a small wooden hut in the middle of the forest. When I went out on the terrace in the morning in my pajamas and a cup of coffee, I could admire the herb garden, which we took care of together. I felt free and happy. Part of me, however, remembered the black-haired one who stole my heart, but I never mentioned it to Athena. I didn't want her to worry, she was happy that I had regained my feminine shape and mental strength.
I sighed as I sat on the rocking chair in only pajamas. It was a warm morning. The sun was just beginning to rise and the birds around sang, giving the place a beautiful, magical aura. I patted the dog, Mira, behind the ear, then took a sip of the hot brew, closing my eyes.
Suddenly, I was roused from my trance by the sound of howling and clapping of paws on the wet ground. I tensed all my muscles as I leapt to my feet. I was just staring at two huge wolves, growling and peering at me uncertainly. I clenched my hands into fists, refraining from changing. I did not want to scare Athena in the morning, especially since her health deteriorated from day to day, which she did not want to show.
I raised an eyebrow as one of the wolves took human form. He was tall and his hair was red as was the fur in his wolf form. He glanced at me uncertainly, then at his companion, who was gray-black, and then spoke without worrying about the fact that he was standing completely naked in front of me. I studied his muscular body for a moment to meet his eyes again. I don't know if I blushed, but I saw the hint of a smile on his face so I guess my face was pink.
- We're looking for a witch, Mrs. Jarvik. - he said, looking at me closely, and only now I remembered that all I was wearing was underwear and a bathrobe. I lifted my chin a little higher, not wanting to reveal my embarrassment, and then folded my arms over my chest.
I didn't know why they were looking for the old lady, but their trespassing here wasn't friendly at all. I huffed, then looked down at my necklace. It wasn't glowing, so theoretically I didn't have to be afraid of them, but I didn't know what their intentions were towards Grandma because one of them still didn't change.
- What do you want from her? - I asked confidently, making my voice sound harsh.
I did not want them to pose a threat to her in any way, so I was staring intensely at the wolf, which began to pick its paws with impatience. I reached for the coffee mug, expecting an explanation from them. Why do two wolves enter not their territories and demand a meeting with the old lady?
I heard a soft rustle behind me, then a grunt. I covered Athena defensively with my own body and bared my fangs at the newcomers to warn them that it would be better for them if they weren't up to anything.
I felt her hand on my shoulder and only then did I feel how tense I was. I looked at her and she nodded in response, standing next to me.
- How can I help you, boys? - she asked with a big smile on her lips.
- Our ... friend was bitten by some strange kind of wolf. We don't know what's wrong with him, but his wounds won't heal. We have heard that you are the best when it comes to difficult cases. - he replied. - We would like to take you to him as soon as possible.
I nodded, not even looking at my mentor. I knew that when it comes to helping others, he never refuses. I headed inside, glad to shower right after I got out of bed. I quickly wore black jeans and a black tank top. I tied my hair in a high ponytail, then took a leather bag into which I began to throw all the necessary potions and herbs.
When I had everything packed, I put on my sneakers and went to the front of the house where the men were still waiting for us.
- You're a werewolf? - The redhead asked and I just snorted.
Of course they sensed from me that I was neither a human nor a witch. The smell of a werewolf is something that I had to work on for a long time with the witch and Haizi. Due to the transformation into a rogue, the only thing other wolves could smell from me was the smell of burning. Now, almost a year later, there was only a hint of burnt, the rest was dominated by my real scent.
I nodded slowly, confirming their words as the old woman came out, with car keys in hand. I took them from her, knowing that we would not be able to drive slowly, because every second counts and we have already wasted a lot of time.
We got into the car, and the man who talked to us turned into a wolf again. I started the car and pressed the gas pedal hard, trying not to lose them.
At the beginning we were driving along side roads, only then they came up with the idea to lead us along the main road. There were definitely fewer roots, pits and trees to avoid. I felt a slight twinge in my stomach as we passed a familiar place in the middle of the forest.
The old woman was silent all the way, and when we reached the big villa, she cursed under her breath.
- It's a King and Queen packhouse. - she only whispered when I turned the engine off and ran out of the car with her, following the redhead boy.
I just noticed someone handing him a pair of pants and a blouse, which he quickly put on without even stopping. He led us up the stairs to the second floor, and as we reached the large door at the end of the corridor, he looked at us quickly, worried.
He told us there was Luna Queen Catelyn inside along with Alpha King Emreis with his son Oliver, who was wounded. He made us bow down when we got in and save the prince, and we nodded.
I let the air out of my lungs and then the door swung open and I felt the scent I was missing so much.
I stopped, looking for its source with my eyes. I saw a beautiful, tearful, blonde woman in a white dress with gold ornaments with a mass of blood on it. The crown slid off her head as she sobbed. Beside her stood proudly a man in a white shirt and black pants that matched his dark hair. A beautiful crown adorned his head. He stroked the back of the woman who would not move away from the body lying on the bed.
I walked closer, bowed slightly, and looked at the figure on the bed at the sight of which my heart beat faster and my wolf finally rejoiced instead of running away.
His black hair was glued to his forehead, which was wet with sweat. His eyes were closed and his mouth was slightly blue and ajar. I glanced quickly at Athena, who shook her head herself, not knowing what to do. This was the first time she had ever seen anything like this. I approached the bed and a man appeared in front of me and grabbed my shoulders preventing me from taking the next step. The king, seeing his behavior, growled, setting him upright and letting me get to my mate.
His entire side was covered with gases that were already blood red. I took them off gently, seeing the mass of deep tooth wounds beneath them. I frowned at the sight of the werewolf's teeth, but smelled vampire venom. The wounds did not heal and they were bleeding heavily, and I knew that if we did not remove the venom quickly, he would die.
I felt the presence of Athena in my mind. She wasn't a werewolf, but she could communicate like us using a little magic. I told her what I sensed, and she stood at the foot of the bed whispering spells.
I pulled three potions from my purse. I poured one of them over his wounds, the second I slowly poured into his mouth, and the third I put on my hands and pressed them against his forehead and cheeks. I could feel the sparkles and warmth passing through my body as I touched him.
After a long moment, his eyelids began to lift slightly, and when he finally opened his eyes, his gaze was intensely analyzing my face and eyes.
I took my hands slowly from his body, but he grasped them and I felt the sparkles pass between our fingers.
- I never forgot that scent. - he whispered, and before he passed out the soft word "mate" fell from his lips, and complete silence was planned around him.
I was screwed up.
