Sybil’s Beloved
It was another cold morning, I had woken a few hours before my husband would get up. I knew if I wasn’t up it would be harder to get the blood I needed without him noticing. I was born a vampire and since I didn’t have a kiss or a lot of experience with it, I didn’t think it was wise to tell him. To him, I was just another human that had odd tendencies.
I turned to gaze at him. His side of the bed radiated heat. His dark black hair was messed up from the rough night. His skin that had a constant tan captured my eyes. He wasn’t wearing a shirt and the covers sat low around his waist. I ran a hand gently down his tattoos on his arm. They were labeled with his family name and the symbol of peace. Slightly above was an inspired anime tattoo. My husband is a huge Dragon Ball Z fan, I didn’t mind one bit since, I too enjoyed anime. He has four total tattoos currently. Two on the sides of his ribs and the two on his arm.
I pulled myself from the bed and walked down the stairs of the old Victorian home. We had bought it last year and it felt very fit for a vampire. The house had a lot of updates, but still held the 1800’s quality I had remembered. I never set foot into this house back during that time, but I had at least passed it a few times. I quickly grabbed a blood tablet from the kitchen and mixed it in a cup of water. I needed to be quick, because even though my husband was a heavy sleeper, his alarm would go off in ten minutes.
I washed the cup quickly making sure there was no trace of the blood and quickly made my way up the three turns of stairs. I walked into the room and saw him spread out on the bed. I laughed at big form laying across the queen sized mattress.
I leaned down to his ear, “Julian, you’ll be late for work again.”
He smiled, “what are they gonna do fire me?”
He sat up with a loud yawn. He turned to me and smiled a mischievous grin. Before realizing what he had in store for me, he grabbed me and wrapped me backup in the sheets with him. He laughed and began trailing kisses down my neck. He grazed over the bite he had placed on me years ago that had never healed. I didn’t tell him that was how my kind marked claim....I just told him I was into biting. He eagerly accepted the excuse and told me he was too. Which worked out when he had marked me.
Since I didn’t kill like other vampires, keeping my soul pure, I didn’t have a lot of vampire stipulations. I could walk outside during the day and garlic didn’t bother me. If the smell was too strong or I ate too much I may get a headache, but no issue. Since the vampire community invented welcome mats, non-silver lined mirrors and other items through the years, a lot of the other issues were rarely cause for a consent. My husband had only had an odd question once and it was about me getting a splinter.
Normal splinters I don’t have a huge issue with they just make me a little tired, but I slid back on an old bench. A splinter the size of pen had went into my leg. It was excruciating. Stakes can still kill us. I was out for maybe two days after he got it out. I couldn’t say I had an issue with blood or pain, because my history had shown otherwise. I just told him that I didn’t feel well. Being the loving husband he is, he instantly became doting over me.
“I say we call one of the employees to cover for a few hours and we go in later.”
I giggled into his neck, “Julian we need to go, we have a meeting with the other gym owners. Midnight Gym. There owners Marshal and Dawn are coming to talk about a partnership remember. I guess Dawn has some new engagements that cause some time away. They said having another gym would help with some of the inventory and accounting. It would be nice to start to think about expanding. Heck I’ve known Dawn forever.”
His body became stiff, “well I’ve known Marshal forever. It doesn’t mean I would like to get out of bed any earlier. I setup my meeting with him and yours with hers by the way.”
“Makes sense since we have known each other for awhile.”
Julian nodded, “then we will meet up to finalize.”
“Divide and conquer.”
“Oh Sybil, I love it when you talk about battling.”
I groan at the bad joke. “Oh Julian, I love when you aren’t talking.”
He tries to push back as I take his mouth. “Ass.”
I pushed off and headed to the dresser and began to get out our work clothes. I had lunches ready in the kitchen and had already hit the remote start to warm up the car. It took only a few minutes from the house to get to the gym.
“Alright hot stuff let’s go.”
As we pulled into the parking lot of our gym, I had noticed a new smell that reminded me of Julian. It was odd. I thought the smell he had was caused by the beloved bond, but for someone to have one of his smells was odd to me. Maybe he was related or something. I saw Dawn heading in.
“They’re here.”
I noticed Julian being uncomfortable. “I’ll get Marshal and talk to him.”
I smile, “of course.”
I wanted to see Dawn, as bad as I imagined he wanted to see his friend. The other side of me though knew I had to get to Dawn, before she assumed my beloved knew about us.
“Hey Dawn. I imagine my husband grabbed your business partner. We can head to my office.”
She smiled and followed close behind. “I was going to warn you that Marshal is a werewolf on the council, but I guess that really won’t matter to you.”
I found her sentence odd. “Why is that? I mean I guess I don’t have any ill feeling about werewolves, but that is cause I have never met one. I don’t think I would even notice if one were in front of me.”
“Then you don’t know...”
I gave a nervous laugh, “what is someone working here one?”
“A few and members.” She gazed down in thought. “My beloved turned out to be werewolf, an alpha at that. That is actually why we thought about this. With the council and a new pack, I’m not going to be as involved with the gym.”
“Oh I can imagine. How is it with a werewolf? Are they as rough as they say?”
She laughed a little too loudly, “oh honey, I mean let’s be honest we aren’t all weak and innocent either. I drained a whole f*****g forest of creatures when we marked each other. What about you?”
“Well, I maybe took too much blood, but I just told him I was into biting so it worked out. He recovered really fast though. I had over did the blood tablets the whole day to make sure I didn’t kill him.”
Dawn gasped, “wait he doesn’t know your a vampire?”
