The forest had quieted, but Luna could feel the tension still lingering in the air.
Kael stood before her, chest heaving slightly, eyes dark and unreadable.
“You saved us,” he said finally, voice low, almost a growl.
She shook her head.
“I didn’t save you… we survived together,” she whispered.
He studied her, his gaze piercing.
“No,” he corrected. “You saved me. And now… I owe you the truth.”
Her pulse quickened.
“The truth?” she repeated, fear and curiosity mingling in her voice.
“Yes,” he said, stepping closer. “About the curse… about me… and why you are tied to it.”
She swallowed hard.
“I’m listening.”
Kael took a deep breath, and for the first time, his guarded expression softened.
“Centuries ago,” he began, “I was bound to this curse not by choice, but by betrayal. My own bloodline… those I trusted… turned against me. They wanted power, control… and they used the curse to chain me, to make me weak.”
Her eyes widened.
“You… you’ve carried this all this time?” she whispered.
He nodded.
“Not just me. Anyone who bears the mark is trapped. The curse feeds on anger, hatred, desire… and it twists it into power. But it also isolates, punishes… destroys.”
Luna’s chest tightened.
“Then… what about me?” she asked, voice trembling. “Why am I tied to it?”
Kael’s gaze darkened.
“Because the curse senses strength in you,” he said. “Something pure… yet powerful. It recognizes your potential… and it reacts. That’s why the bond exists. That’s why it responded to you.”
Her breath caught.
“So… I’m… part of it?”
“Yes,” he admitted. “And that’s why we are bound together. You can heal me… but you can also amplify the curse. That’s why I didn’t trust anyone with you. That’s why I can’t let you go.”
Her hands trembled slightly.
“But… you’re not afraid?” she asked softly.
Kael’s jaw tightened.
“I am,” he admitted. “Every moment I feel the bond, every pulse of energy, I am reminded that I could lose control… that I could hurt you… or worse. And yet…”
He stepped closer, the tension between them undeniable.
“Yet I can’t resist you.”
Her breath hitched.
“Kael…” she whispered.
He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her face, thumb lingering against her cheek.
“You feel it too,” he murmured. “The pull, the bond… the curse. It’s alive between us. And it wants us together.”
Her heart raced violently.
“I feel it,” she admitted. “Every time I touch you… every time we’re near…”
He leaned closer, eyes dark, lips inches from hers.
“Then we have no choice,” he whispered.
Her breath caught.
“What do you mean?”
“We have to embrace it,” he said softly. “Or it will destroy us.”
Her pulse skyrocketed.
“Embrace it… Kael, I…”
He closed the distance, capturing her lips in a kiss that was both fierce and tender, desperate and claiming.
Her hands went to his chest instinctively, feeling the heat, the power, the pulse of the curse that surged between them.
It was intoxicating.
Dangerous.
Irresistible.
When he finally pulled back slightly, both of them were breathing heavily, hearts pounding in unison.
“You… saved me again,” he whispered, voice rough.
She shook her head, lips still tingling from the kiss.
“No… we saved each other.”
He studied her for a long moment, dark eyes filled with something she couldn’t name.
Then, softly…
“I don’t know how this will end,” he admitted. “But I know one thing… I cannot imagine it without you.”
Her chest tightened, and for the first time, she felt the depth of their bond—alive, dangerous, and undeniable.
And deep inside, she realized… she didn’t want to imagine it without him either.
