Chapter 6Axel’s heart banged hard as he turned into George’s yard. He’d borrowed Mary’s bike. He’d checked on her when he’d walked home from the square and given her a portion of his food package. It was their deal. She looked after Mira and he gave her some of their food since she didn’t qualify for any herself. She hadn’t looked after Mira this week, but he wanted to give her some food anyway.
She’d told him she couldn’t look after Mira any longer. Her daughter had been by, and she was moving in with them. They would rent the apartment out.
