Elara’s Pov
I stared at my reflection in the mirror, Damon's words still resounding at the back of my head. And at some point I was really confused.
What if Raine said she also didn't remember this? What if she said that? How will all this be settled? Ever since Kade arrived in this palace, things had not been going as they were supposed to.
Just because he came, I have to face this whole illusion's frustration. And now, I was scared for no reason. Questions rose at the back of my headーwhat if she says the same thing? What if she said she doesn't remember anything.
But, she was there that night. She had Carried Kai and Luna in her hands so she would know about this whole nonsense. I wouldn't have to break my head just to search for things that didn't exist.
I let out a deep sigh, as soon as I was done applying makeup, I headed out of the room. Off to my normal morning routine.
As soon as I entered the hallway, Malachi was coming towards me. There was a bright smile on his face. And as soon as he was a step away, he gave a curt bow.
“ Luna, Alpha summoned you.” He said.
Immediately, he turned leaving me alone in the hallway. I kept quiet for a second staring at him as his back disappeared into the hallway.
What? Is he an illusion as well? Just like Damon and Kade had been? I was starting to go crazy. I let out a deep sigh. Immediately, I began moving as I headed towards the throne room.
As soon as I got to the throne room, Damon was sitting in his grace, dressed in a white tuxedo only that he was looking off in it. Or maybe, it was the throne that made him look awkward. Like those mediaeval times.
I bowed curtly, “Good morning, Alpha.” I said, my voice low.
He just stared at me, he had no smile on his face, he just kept quiet. The four walls of this palace had become his ennui. The bright side of himself was gone, ever since he had announced to me that the old one had been taken, he wasn't himself.
" The elders and the council head are waiting in the meeting room." He said, his voice low.
He stared into my eyes, I couldn't feel that familiar vibes in his tone. I bowed curtly. And immediately, I turned leaving the throne room, I headed towards the meeting room to see the elders.
It has been a rule in the pack, you are to act totally formal with your mate when you're outside and in social situations. But, when you're private you can act as you want. And that was one of the reasons why I didn't say anything to him in the throne room nor did I try to confort him
As soon as I stepped into the meeting room the elders stood to their feet. They all bowed curtly, while the council head did the same but his was totally different. He did that while he was sitting.
" Good morning elders," I greeted. Moving forward to take my seat right beside Wilson.
" Luna, Elara," elder Moira said, her voice low. " We need to see Alpha himself.” She said,
“ He is currently not stable, and will speak to the elders himself.” I said,
As soon as I said that, the door swung open revealing Damon and Raine. Raine stood right beside him, she carried a file jacket in her hands.
While Damon looked too non-chalantly as he walked in, his chest was broad. His face was masked with a cold indifference.
“Welcome Alpha, “ the elders all chorused.
At that moment, I felt that the moment would actually turn or be against me. I swallowed hard, staring at him
“ Alpha,” elder Benjamin called.
Without answering, Benjamin moved closer to me, he sat right beside me. I turned my head to look at him.
“ Tell me,” Damon said, his voice cold.
“ We came to talk to you about the current attack from Alpha Kade.” He said, his voice straight.
I stared into his eyes, Benjamin was going to say something I wouldn't like. That was one thing I knew for sure.
I turned to look at Damon wanting to hear how he will respond to whatever Benjamin will say.
“ What about it?” Damon asked, his voice cold.
“ We were also told that Kade attacked the old one.” Elder Moira said, “ and to make matters worse, we know how the old one is… I mean, how important she meant to us.” She said,
“ I was aware of all of them!” Damon said.
The elders kept quiet for some moment, they all turned their heads to look at themselves. And Wilson? The old man just stood there arms crossed above his chest, shoulders sagged, he leaned into the chair staring at the elders. And I knew one thing was for sure, the elders had called him here.
“ It's concerning how you are not taking actions,” Benjamin said.
It seems they've planned on what to say when they've gotten to this room. Because the elders I knew were not usually this calm, they would always speak without giving the Alpha listening ears.
Benjamin kept quiet, he didn't say anything, he turned his face to look at me, then back at elder Moira. At that moment, I knew what he meant.
“ Elder Benjamin, I had told Alpha what he needs to do based on my understanding.” I said, resting my hands on the oak table.
As soon as I said those words, Elder Moira turned to look at me. She had this smug look on her face, her lips curved.
I was seated right on the left side of the table with Damon so I wasn't afraid of any attacks from her. It would be easier to deal with her, I was at the special axis where all weapons were kept for this room
She couldn't attack, but her looks were intimidating and I was prepared to dig out her eyes if she dared me.
“ You don't have the right to tell the Alpha what he will do,” she said.
I kept quiet, staring into her eyes. But, before I could open my mouth to say something, Damon beat me to it.
“ She is my mate and Luna,” he said, followed by a loud growl.
He stamped his hands against the table, turning to look at the council head.
Wilson just sat there and he didn't say anything. He was all gone on that chair and I could swear he had his eyes on me, but there was no proof of it.
Yeah, Damon was right by looking at the council head. He was waiting, waiting for the council head to speak.
This isn't the hereditary pack, the whole rules wasn't hereditary as well. And this pack had been brought under the council just to make it look like the others, that was why he had to look at the council head.
The elders were like the council contribution to this pack. They never belong, but were chosen. So before Damon could raise a finger on them, he needed to ask the council.
“ It's a rule,” she paused. “ Only your fated mate has a say in the pack.” She said,
But that was her mistake, she didn't realize she was just a means for the council to have a say in this pack and can be removed like a pest.
“ I make the rules of my pack,” he said.
“ Alpha Damon,” Wilson called. “ Calm down, “ he said.
“ Why was this meeting held?” Damon asked.
At that moment, the door swung open revealing my biggest enemy, Marcus. He stood there arms crossed and his chest.
“ Becauseー” before he could finish his words Wilson raised his hand into the air stopping him from speaking.
“ Out!” He bellowed.
At that moment, Marcus turned heading out of the room with his head bowed.
“ We want you to reject your mate and give her back to Kade so he will stop attacking,” Elder Enoch said.
As soon as the words left his mouth, my heart froze, causing me to almost forget how to breathe. His words hit me hard like a blade.
I turned my head to look at him, waiting for him to speak. Waiting for him to react. But, he didn't say anything.
My heart ached, it kept hammering against my ribs. And for one moment I felt the wave of the world drown on me. My vision blurred, but I held back my tears.
I was Luna, and I wasn't weak. I would fight it no matter what. The silence in the room lengthened and it gradually became unbearable, the elders stared at me, while I just kept staring at Damon. Tears made their way into my eyes, but I stopped them from rolling down.
“ Alpha, you need to reject her and that's final!” Moira said.
