Chapter 12

Elara's Pov In the next moment, I froze my heart beating loudly. I felt the beat of every second as they lengthened with a second more. A second longer than I had thought. I waited, my heart nearly leapt out of my chest. I felt it ragged as it kept beating against my ribs. I swallowed the lump in my throat. Almost immediately, I turned with humane strength. I raised my hand aiming for the person's head. But, I caught nothing. “ Hey!” Damon’s voice cut through the room. And at that moment, I felt my heart paused. “ What?” I yelled, “ why are you the one in here?” I asked my voice low. “I have been here ever since you started walking toward the balcony.” He said. “ You were just walking around, yelling and speaking to yourself.” He snapped. “ Oh my God,” I whispered, My knees gave way, and I fell on them with a thud. Am I losing my senses? What is happening to me? “ Wait, what happened?” He asked, his voice low as he moved closer. “ Someone was here,” I spat the word. “ The person was whispering something to me.” I said, my voice trembling I couldn't control my emotions, I was dumbfounded. I didn't understand what was happening. I just stood there staring at him, as tears began flooding down my eyes. When did I become so weak? I was never afraid. Despite the absence of my wolf, I was never afraid. Never scared, I was a Luna to the core. People respected me, but how did I become so weak? Those were the questions I kept asking myself as time went by. I raised my head to look at Damon, he had that confused look. “ Something is happening to me,” I said. “ Something, I can't explain. It's more than my imagination.” I said. “ What happened? I don't understand you, I don't get what you're saying at all.” He said, “ Actually, I felt a presence in this room.” I explained, “ someone… someone… the-they came in. Not they… she was here.” I stuttered, unsure of what to say anymore. “Who are you talking about?” He asked, wrapping his hands around mine. I let out a deep breath, raising my head to look at him once again. I mustered everything inside of me. Every damn thing. “ Someone was watching me,” I said. “ I am becoming weak.” I added. Tears rolled down my cheek continuously. I didn't understand what was happening. I had thought it would end as soon as Kade left, but I became more complex. The illusion, the woods, the words from that womanーwait. That woman from the woods, the dirty one. That was what she had said. She had said the same thing with this whispererーBeware the bread that is only bun in shape, and the child is only child in face. The hungriest deception is the one that wears the skin of your loveーthose words, they were the same. They played right at the back of my head like a pre-recorded tape. I never knew the meaning. But, I guess it was significant afterward. What was the bread, what was the buns. I was left with questions that had no answer. “ Elara,” Damon called. “ What happened?” He asked. I didn't understand, and I could not give a proper explanation of what had happened. It felt more like craziness. I was running mad. And I could not afford to be mad. I still need to cater for my pups. “ I think it's all right,” I said, swiping the tears across my face. At that moment, I jumped to my feet. I still felt battered inside. But, I was unable to explain. I couldn't explain what I didn't understand. That was the logic. As long as I didn't understand, I could not explain a thing. “ I will explain everything,” I paused. “ But, it will be when I understand everything.” I said to him my voice was low. He nodded twice, “ okay.” In the next second, he said what I wasn't expecting. “ Kade sent a threat.” He said “ What?” I asked, my voice cutting through the room. “ Yeah, he sent a threat.” He let out a deep sigh “ What did he say?” I asked. “ He has captured the old one.” As soon as he said that word, I froze and my heart nearly leapt out of my chest. The old oneーthat was Damon’s foster mother. She was like the Luna of this pack. Although she doesn't have the authority, the pack knew not to go against her. Kade was building a war. He was doing what he didn't understand. He was making a grave mistake. “ You know what?” I said, “ let's go to sleep, we’ll settle it all in the morning.” I said. And that was when he calmed down a little bit. I saw it in his eyes. I knew what was inside. I knew the pain he was going through. Aside from me and the pups, the old one was the next person. And she was always Damon's gold. She never lost her place in Damon's eyes I didn't know what to say. And for one moment, I didn't know how to comfort him. I swallowed, cupping his cheek before finally taking his hands as we both went to bed. I closed my eyes. My mind raced with thoughts, deep thoughts I knew not how to explain. I had changed in just days since my kids birthday. It was just as if I had changed totally. My strength, gone. My new wolf, it comes and goes. It doesn't come when I need it, it comes when I am brave enough to do it myself. And now, I am failing. Failing as a Luna, I felt my motherly walls broke. I needed to think, I needed to understand. I needed to revive the old strong Luna. I never wanted to remain as the old weak omega. As my mind became filled with many thoughts, I couldn't give answers to any of my questions. And that was how I slowly slept off… My eyes slowly fluttered open, a wide smile tugged across my lips. I lowered my hands to touch Kai's head. Only to find out he wasn't there. “ Wow, today's different.” I muttered to myself. Yeah, today was really different. My kids that I know were never like this, they don't stay in their room this early. Even if I was still fast asleep, they will be in this room waiting for me to wake up. Kai was stubborn, but he was the clingy type. So I was stunned at his absence. “ Urgh,” I groaned, slowly sitting up. “ I need to go get my mother back.” Damon said, his voice cold. He was talking about the old one. His mother is like a figure. He had a special connection with her. A connection I will never understand. They shared a deep bond, a bond no friends will ever share. I turned my head to look over my shoulder, “ I think you need to wait.” I said, my voice low. With my understanding, if he had gone now, he would act with emotion. And it will be a disaster. And Kade? Kade would not give up. It might lead to the death of his mother. I turned my head to look at him fully. His face was masked with a cold indifference. He stood up, staring down at me. “That's my mother, Elara.” He said. And I knew really well that he was more than furious. Damon never mentions my full name unless he’s emotional, or wants to understand something. “You have to think straight àt this point.” I said, “ don't fight with rage, do that with understanding.” He let out a deep sigh. “ Something's different this morning.” He said, his voice low. At that point, I knew he had listened. He had listened without saying it. That was him, that was who he is. “ Yeah, different.” I said, not knowing what he was pointing at. “ Where is Kai and Luna?” He asked As soon as he mentioned their name, something clicked in my mind. I needed to ask him a few questions. “ Hey,” I called. Turning fully I dragged him to sit back down. “ I have questions for you.” I said. “ Go on,” he said, his voice cold. “ On Kai and Luna’s birthday, what happened that night?” I asked. “ Marcus, he wanted to take the kids. But, they were with Raine, so I came to sleep.” He said. “Huh?” I asked, dumbfounded. That wasn't what had happened at all. “I mean the time you were attacked with Kade.” I asked. “We were never attacked.” He said, As soon as he said those words, my mind drifted back to what Wilson had said. It was all an illusion. The only thing left now,was to ask the beta herself. I needed answers to many questions.
